cupcake_goth: (Beware cupcakes!)

Realizing that I have all the ingredients to make a batch of vanilla cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting? Perhaps dangerous.

Perhaps.

But it gave me an excuse to use my bat-festooned cupcake wrappers.
Whoo, the coffee from Besalu was particularly nummy today. I kinda-sorta wish I had another one, but no. I will just have to "make do" with more tea. Oh woe, not the chocolate-rose truffle tea!

I am not going dancing tonight, as my usual dancing companions have other plans. But! I AM going to see Blackbird Orchestra (with Nathaniel Johnstone and guests!) and Robert Riel's Bakelite 78 tonight, so yay! (A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] marc17 for the suggestion and being willing to play chauffeur for me!)

But before that, I get to go for sushi, and then for a babycake from Cupcake Royale. Buttercream frosting, oh thank goodness. Plus I get to see [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre, her charming spouse, and my beloved Princess Tickybox.

This weekend involves stuff for Mothers' Day (hi, [livejournal.com profile] cupcakegothmom!), and possibly going to IKEA to look for organizing-type furniture for my storage room. If I get my way, there are pink chests of drawers in my future, oh yes.
Firstly, thank you for all the babybat clichés in the previous post! Exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for, yay!

Secondly, OMG SHOES! My awesome co-worker Maura (she who kindly takes the full-length Goth at the Office photos) found these shoes (clicky-link!):

Pink! Black! Skulls! Cupcakes! Hello, I am a target market!

When the Stroppy One asked if I wanted to get coffee this morning, at first I said no, I'll have a pot of tea at work. But as I was standing in front of the mirror applying my eyeliner, I realized that coffee was very desperately needed. Dear Lighthouse Coffee, I less-than-three you. Mmmm, double-tall Americano.

---

I am still working up to writing a review of the Tim Burton Alice In Wonderland. The very short form is this: it's very pretty. But the farther away I get from the viewing experience, the more dissatisfied with it I become. I am NOT planning on purchasing it when it is released for the home market. I will purchase the big art book instead, which will let me look at the pretty as much as I want without having to grit my teeth at the "plot".

---

As the Goth At The Office photo (coming later) will show, I am indeed wearing yet another military-style jacket. And my pink fingerless gloves with GOTH CAKE embroidered on them. They make me happy, and I suspect today is a day I am going to need all of the little amusements I can get.

---

Speaking of little amusements, my Keep Calm And Have A Cupcake (clicky-link!) journal arrived in the mail yesterday. I don't know what I'm going to use it for, but I had to have it. (I also really like the matching stationery (clicky-link!), but I am still dithering about ordering it.)

---

I hope you folks are having a good day. Anything exciting going on?

[livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre is a queen among women*, for today she provided me with fun conversation, thrift store shopping, and cupcakes. And while at one of the thrift stores, she found a Revenge-era MCR shirt for me. (Yes, I'm wearing it around the house right now, with a long velvet skirt. Isn't that what everyone's "inside clothes" look like?)

The thrift stores also produced a stack of vintage trashy gothic romances (look, any book that includes the line "and a forced marriage in the family crypt!" is one I MUST READ), a black blouse with silver pinstripes (which is the wrong size, but is an exact duplicate of a blouse I have, which means I can use today's find as a source of fabric to add matching ruffles to the previous blouse), a pretty box to store some stuff in, and b&w striped cotton sheets (which will eventually turn into bloomers and maybe a skirt). (And a black blazer to alter and a skully t-shirt, but those aren't quite as exciting as the other stuff.)

Tomorrow I get to experiment with this whole "morning" thing again, as I have to be at the office of my contract agency at 8AM for orientation. This is going to be interesting. Will a full dose of Ambien knock me out at 10PM tonight? Or will I just have wacky hallucinations? Let's find out!

*A queen among women EVEN IF she has left me with an earworm I never thought I'd suffer. But apparently "Womanizer" by Britney Spears is freakishly catchy.
I'm still gathering my strength for that. No, this is a post to say I have found what may be the perfect present for me, ever. If anyone ever felt like spending $25K on a present for me, which I admit is very unlikely.

A cupcake car! (clicky-link of AMAZEMENT!) From Neiman Marcus. OF COURSE I WANT ONE. WHY WOULDN'T I?

::reads the sales copy::

Eeee! They're customizable! I could have a pink and black one!

If you listen closely, not only will you be able to hear the Stroppy One rolling his eyes, but also muttering "Good God woman, NO" under his breath.

Cupcake car! CUPCAKE CAR!

Tonight I am going to LEAVE THE HOUSE. To go eat sushi, and then have a celebratory cupcake! Because I am finally feeling better. Not 100%, mind you, but well enough to actually do small amounts of stuff without immediately needing to have a bit of a lie-down while the room stops wobbling.

This is especially good timing, as I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon! It's for a contractor editor position at the company I was previously a full-time employee at. If you lovely people could send good luck my way tomorrow, that would be lovely.

Tomorrow will also (most likely) see the posting of a new Gothic Charm School lesson. And on Thursday, the Closet Culling Sale will happen!

Vampirates. Oh dear. I read about half of it, and realized that I wasn't retaining any of it. It didn't hold my interest at all. So it is now in the box of books that need to go to Half Price Books, and instead I will turn my attentions to something that I know will be good: The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan. Of course, most of Caitlin's writing also creeps me right out, so perhaps I shouldn't read that book before trying to sleep tonight ...

Post the first. I am up, dressed, and have had caffeine, ALL before I am usually awake on a Sunday. Sparkle field trip is go.

I have been rather lax for a while now about going for walks during the day. Yes, I have been using the Wii Fit (off and on), but I need to get back in the habit of a half-hour walk every day. Today, I couldn't bring myself to leave my office, but I did pace around my office for almost the entire length of an episode of Pushing Daisies. And then my iPod battery ran out. But, it was a walk (of a sort), and I think I'll find briskly pacing around my office while watching Pushing Daisies is something I'll be willing to find time for every day.

Earlier today, while staring forlornly at a topic one of my writers had handed off, there was a knock at my office door. The super-cool senior editor I work with had gone to run some errands, and brought back cupcakes. Mmmm, cupcake.

---

Tonight: start writing the next GCS on the bus home. Dinner, then possibly watching Let The Right One In (yay vampires!), and writing an email concerning perfumes.

Sometime before Thursday, I need to go through my petticoat collection and find the few that are mid-calf length, because my skirt for the Vampire Ball is above ankle-length. Yes, people will be able to see my feet, which is not my usual standard at a fancy dress-up event. But my black leather granny boots with the pink ribbons will be perfect with the outfit, so yay.

Yesterday's recipe on the Cupcake-A-Day calendar was for balsamic vinegar & strawberry cupcakes. I think I need to bat my eyes at [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix to see if I can sweet-talk her into making a batch.
Sterling silver cupcake signet ring! Of COURSE I want it. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7688715

(I have real thoughts, I swear. But my brain is currently being eaten by work, and by thoughts of organizing my books at home. We re-arranged furniture, and I now have a library. You people have NO NOTION how giddy I am at the idea of having a room for my books.)
Dear Publishing Company that produced the Cupcake page-a-day calendar:

Look, just because something can be made in a paper baking cup does not mean it's a cupcake. Sure, s'more "cupcakes" sound good, but they're not REAL cupcakes. They're just s'mores made in the oven, and everyone knows that half the fun of making s'mores is setting fire to the damn marshmallows.

(Yes, a very nice person gave me the Cupcake calendar. I feel strangely compelled to bake more. Will I manage to actually do so? Who knows!?)

(Y'know, I really need to get a photo taken of me holding a cupcake, so I can turn it into an LJ icon.)

[livejournal.com profile] serenada and [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage both noticed the total looked odd when they went to vote for me in the MAC contest. MAC has added this note (emphasis [livejournal.com profile] serenada's: Contest Notice Through the monitoring of votes for this contest, we have identified duplicate votes. Votes have been reset to eliminate duplicate votes. As a reminder the voting rules are: customers must be signed into their MAC Cosmetics online account; each customer can only vote once per day; and each customer can only vote for each entry once.

Well drat. Thank you to everyone that did vote for me!
I suddenly realized that I need a teeny-tiny crown (clicky link!, with a teeny-tiny pink-frosted cupcake ornament as the centerpiece. Yes.

(You all are listening closely to hear the sound of [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage's and [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps' eyes rolling straight back into their heads, aren't you? Because it's fun!)
[livejournal.com profile] queeniex pointed me at this dress from FanPlusFriend. (Clicky link!) It has cupcakes printed on the bottom hem. It is available in black.

::tries to recover from the swooning::

It's so cute! Of course, even *I* am worried that it would be just a shade too whimsical for my own good. Not to mention that I don't know if that collar and those sleeves would be as flattering as I hope. But that doesn't stop my hindbrain from flailing about while shrieking "Cupcake dress! Cupcake dress!"

I very cleverly arranged to take today off as a personal holiday, so I would be able to get ready for going to PDX for the Vampire Ball, instead of feeling all distracted at work. This also meant I got to sleep in, which was glorious.

For whatever reason, I woke up craving coffee. Over the past three months, I've completely switched to drinking tea in the mornings, but no, this morning I wanted coffee. Since [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage has also been cutting back on his caffeine consumption, all we had in the house was decaf. Which was tasty, but I decided to get a small cup of French roast when we went to Whole Foods for lunch to really satisfy my coffee craving.

I mentioned the "I've been cutting back on caffeine" thing, right? Wheeeee! Coffeeeeee! I feel awake. Very awake. Of course, having half of a Deathcake from Cupcake Royale probably also cranked my brain up just a bit.

(omg, so good. Imagine a slab of death-by-chocolate cake with extremely dark chocolate, and made by the geniuses at Cupcake Royale. Oh here, just use this handy clicky link, and read all about the Deathcake for yourself. Espresso ganache! Wheeeee!)

So anyway, I'm good and wired for finishing up my prep for the Vampire Ball. The next thing to do is try on my outfit to make sure everything does what it's supposed to, and then start packing.
