I went to the Fluevog store tonight to take a look at the new colorway of the Babycake boots, because HELLO, cherry and black with pink buttons?

The important lesson? Photos on the interwebs liiiiiiiee about colors. In real life, the cherry and the pink are muted and oddly dusty. The colors just aren't saturated enough.

The Mini Bunny shoes, on the other hand?

Perfect. :)
Yep, new post time at Gothic Charm School!

Of Being Compared To Pop Stars, And Of Finding Plus-Size Goth Fashion. And comments are OPEN on this particular post, as I'm asking people for plus-sized fashion resources.

Shoes! One of my delightful co-workers gave me a pair of shoes today. She'd purchased them a few years ago, wore them once, and they've languished in her closet ever since.

New witchy shoes! They're really cute, and comfy.

(The socks are the Extraordinarily Longer Striped Thigh-Highs from Sock Dreams, and they're kind of amazing. They go all the way up to the tops of my thighs, they didn't roll down, and they didn't feel like they were going to cut off circulation! I need to get a few more pairs of these.)

The Infamous BlueJay stopped by on Monday night to give me my birthday present early.

Vintage Fluevogs! The ones I'd been pining for!

I am very lucky. I have wonderful, wonderful friends. I also have pink & burgundy boots!

Otherwise known as "what happens when Jilli sees things on tumblr, then realizes she has the supplies upstairs in the storage room":

(Yes, I had a spare pair of black flats AND an assortment of spikes. What?)

(Yes, I wore them to the office today. No writer is going to sass ME, I tell you what. Now if only the threat of spiky shoes would get the network to obey me.)

In other news, guess who just stapled the arm seam of her vintage blouse after it ripped? I'm just telling myself I'm oh-so-deathrock. Or something.

In other other news, Dear LJ front page, having one of your spotlight communities be one about tarantulas? With its creepy-crawly user icon? NOT OKAY, THANKS.
Firstly, thank you for all the babybat clichés in the previous post! Exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for, yay!

Secondly, OMG SHOES! My awesome co-worker Maura (she who kindly takes the full-length Goth at the Office photos) found these shoes (clicky-link!):

Pink! Black! Skulls! Cupcakes! Hello, I am a target market!

Today's Goth at the Office photo:

Remember those insanely cute pink Fluevogs? They are not the same color in real life that they are on the website. The photo is much more saturated than the actual shoes; the shoes are a pale peach-y pink, and the ribbons are a dusty plum pink. Not my colors At All.

The black versions, however, have white trim, black ribbons, and come with a spare set of red ribbons. Plus, do you have any idea how many different types of pink ribbon I have stockpiled? Yeah. Expect a wardrobe sale very soon.

(Yes, I am now in debt. What? The Stroppy One agreed to the plan BEFORE I merrily went to the Fluevog store, it wasn't just me being completely irresponsible. I don't impulse-buy anything over $40, no matter how much I burble about things.)

Dear hiring manager for that full-time tech editor job at the Big Software Company that I applied for IN NOVEMBER;

I see that the job is still open. (Or at least still listed on the career site.) I am EXACTLY the person you are looking for. Really. LOOK AT MY RESUME AND CALL ME IN FOR AN INTERVIEW.

Sincerely,

Cupcake Goth

Last night when going to bed, the PMS Goblins visited and I had an epic crying meltdown for no reason. I knew it was for no reason, and even said so (in between sobs). But apparently I needed to cry. So, no surprise, I am now suffering the post-crying hangover. I suspect that I am going to get no writing done today, grrr.

Thank you to everyone who voted in the poll about the striped skirt! Re-make the skirt has the most votes, but then I keep looking at these:

and these:

and start geebling and flailing a lot.

I hope all of you folks out there in LJ land are having a good day.
I am thinking of selling off the infamous vintage bat shoes.

You know, the ones I've been searching for for years and years and years, and that every time I find a pair of them, they are TOO SMALL.

The ones that are currently in my possession are a size 7. Which will not fit me, ever. (Unless maybe I cut off all of my toes, which even *I* think would be going a little too far into CrazyTown.)

What have I been doing with these glorious size 7 bat shoes? Occasionally taking them out of the shoe cabinet, sighing wistfully, attempting to cram my feet into them, pouting, and then putting them back into the shoe cabinet. Rumors of my waving them in the air and demanding that The Powers That Be cause a pair of them in a size 8 to magically appear before me are completely unfounded. No truth to those rumors whatsoever. I swear.

Anyway, yeah. I'm seriously thinking of selling off the bat shoes. Maybe The Powers That Be will be so pleased with my letting the bat shoes find their True Home, that THEN a pair of them (in size 8) will magically appear the next time I go thrift shopping. (What? It totally could happen like that.)
- All that stuff that pictured in the last post is stuff I am going to be selling. Most of what I have is sizes 12-16.

- I haven't even started going through the shoes & boots yet, and there will be sizes ranging from 8 - 9. Be afraid.

- I also haven't started going through the Storage Room O' Doom upstairs yet. *I'm* a little afraid of that.

- People have made some very enticing comments about the possibility of trades or bartering for clothes. Normally I would be ALL FOR that, because I love clothing swaps. But part of the reason I'm doing this sale is because I need money to pay off the Fluevogs I finally broke down and purchased last week. Yeah, I know. But ... Fluevogs!

One of my goals for this week is to go over to [livejournal.com profile] theda's place and finally bring home the dress form that's been waiting for me. Which means I'll be able to take better photos of the clothing I have for sale than in the past, yay! And I promise that I will use the real camera to take the sale photos, not the one on the iPhone.

Today was NOT a good day for writing. Stupid, stupid PMS. Bah.
Behind the cut, shoes and boots! Sizes 8.5 - 9 )

If you're interested, leave a comment and we'll figure out shipping costs.
- Remember that skirt I was complaining about a while ago, about how I was not happy with how it was fitting, and I think it needed different buttons? It now has a higher waistband and two rows of pink buttons down the front. I'm much happier with it.

- Speaking of pink buttons, I'm idly contemplating prying the black buttons off the sides of my black JUMP Bjork boots (clicky-link!) and replacing them with pink buttons. Go on, try to look surprised at that.

- One of the things I need to do this weekend: take photos of the stuff I want to sell, including the purple pair of JUMP Bjork boots, because I've only worn them about three times and am not going to bother with getting them dyed. I am also contemplating selling a pair of my vintage swordfish Fluevog shoes. They are gorgeous, but I never wear them because they've got 3" heels and make my feet hurt.

- The Stroppy One pointed out the most recent editorial on Penny Arcade to me, because it mentions a local Goth-Loli event. I don't *think* they're referring to SakuraCon - has anyone heard about this? (Sadly, that's all the info I have.)

- Clicky-links of coveting! The Empire Corsair cincher/waistcoat combo from Damsel In This Dress. (clicky-link!) Ooooh, pretty. I would love to have that in a black-on-black striped fabric.

Speaking of black-on-black stripes, the Jezebel top hat (clicky-link!) is calling to me very, very strongly. I suspect I am going to eventually purchase this, and if I really like their work, commission them to make me a black and pink striped version of this hat. (Again, go on, practice your surprised face. I'll wait.)

Okay, back to reviewing documentation on MSDN. Wheee, the excitement never stops.
I know the chances of any of you finding these shoes in a size 8 AND not wanting to keep them for yourselves is really really remote, but hey! If I don't ask, there's no chance of me getting them, right?

So! They were made in 1989, by Prima Royale. If any of you find them in a size 8, GRAB THEM FOR ME. I will, of course, pay for them and shipping costs, and send you presents.

Look! Bat shoes!

I owned a pair of these exact shoes in 1989 (a present from my parents), and wore them to death. I have been looking for another pair for ages and ages. Every time I find a pair (like I did tonight at the Redmond Goodwill), they're TOO GODDAMN SMALL.

(Did that stop me from buying them tonight? What are you, crazy? I will build a shrine to them in the hopes that there's some tiny fragment of truth behind the idea of cargo cults. Having a replica of the shoes I want will make them magically come to me, I KNOW IT. DO NOT TRY TO CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.)
I think I need a sanity check. In theory, I should be able to modify a pair of ballet flats into peep-toe ballet flats, yes? A sharp craft knife, careful measuring, and some narrow bias tape and glue to finish the cut edges?

I know, I know, it would depend on the shape and structure of the uppers of the flats. But really, I can't think of why it wouldn't work. And I'm sure I have a pair of ballet flats that I'm willing to sacrifice as an experiment.

(This post brought to you by not being able to find a pair of black fabric peep-toe flats that I like.)

I'm suddenly possessed with the need (NEED, I tell you!) to own some cute canvas skimmer/ballet -style flats. I have my adored pair of pointy-toe sneakers that I got at Hot Topic almost three years ago, but I'd like another pair of black canvas shoes to wear this summer. Canvas shoes don't get as hot and sticky as leather shoes, and don't chafe like most sandals do.

So, what have I (or other friends who I've been burbling at) found? Clicky links behind a cut tag for the sanity of my non shoe-obsessed friends ... )

So, a question for those of you that actually looked at the various links: would I actually wear any of those, even tho' none of them are pointy-toed? I need comfy shoes to walk around in, and I really like the black ones w/ the stripy details AND the black-with-pink Vans. ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps, I can hear you both rolling your eyes.)
