A while ago, [livejournal.com profile] water_of_fire described a song I had never heard before thusly:

This Amon Tobin song is really, really icky. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, it's a downtempo groove under a lot of clanging, banging foley noise... and the snarling of wolves. Really. This wet, hungry snarl. It's disgusting and skin-crawly and irresistable. I'm told Ariellah has performed to this.

While this did not sound like my Usual Sort Of Thing, the description was interesting enough to stick in my brain, and today I finally went and tracked it down on the iTunes store.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] water_of_fire: Huh. It's not at ALL what I normally listen to, but there is something very compelling about it. (Dear [livejournal.com profile] djeternaldarkne, no, I don't know if I'd dance to it. But it's interesting.)

Due to a not-very-strange, but still-felt-odd-to-me set of circumstances, I was awake, dressed, and out the door with a parasol for a walk by 11:30 this morning. Considering that by that time on most Saturday mornings I am just contemplating putting on eyeliner, I felt it was worth noting. But I went for a walk, got myself an iced coffee, and am now thinking about what projects I'm working on today. They need to be projects I can work on while socializing, because [livejournal.com profile] staxxy is coming over later for hanging out, yay!

Tonight = Club V. Which will probably be VERY WARM OMG, which means I need to figure out Cupcake Gothic Victorian wear that won't cause me to melt. I could say that I just won't dance, but I know better. [livejournal.com profile] djeternaldarkne would take that as a personal affront and become all mopey. And goodness knows we can't let THAT happen.

I had to get up an hour earlier than usual this morning because of people coming to work on the house gutters. Thanks to the miracles of modern pharmacology, I fell asleep very quickly last night, and got as much sleep as I normally would. However, my body knows that it was dragged out of bed an hour earlier than it should be, so I feel kinda woozy anyway. No, I am in no way, shape, or form a morning person. Ever.

So there's this meme-thingie I've seen in a few places on my FL about describing your style, and the clothing-type things that you wear that bring you joy. I'm actually not going to do a post with that meme. I figure if you've read my LJ at all, you know what my style is and what sort of clothing makes me happy. (If you want to refresh your memory, you should to look at entries tagged with "SFDs".)

---

But speaking of personal style: someone explain to me why I suddenly want a pink velvet jacket? Okay, other than because of the cover of the Winter 2007 Gothic and Lolita Bible, that is.

Look at that! Pink and black and pirate-y!

But yeah, I am filled with a longing for a pink velvet jacket, with large black buttons. If you listen even a little bit closely, you can hear [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage sighing the sigh of the put-upon spouse.

More tea. Must have more tea. (My current favorite, btw, is Tea Vitale's Cocoa Cardamom Tango, which is lovely. I hope it's not a seasonal limited edition -type of flavor.)

P.S. Once again, I blame what I am listening to on [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre. She knows why.
After a long-ish break from packing my lunches, I am trying to get back in the habit of using my collection of bento boxes and taking healthy food to work. (This is in no way due to the office move taking me that much farther away from the cafeteria with the good Mexican food. Really.) So on Sunday afternoon, I cooked and packed my lunches for part of the week. I feel so virtuous!

Dear [livejournal.com profile] sathinks, I made that sautéd veggie ... thing you made for us that I liked so much. So tasty! (Shallots, carrots, celery, eggplant, and mushrooms, for those that are curious.) The other bento boxes hold cracked pepper water crackers, herbed goat cheese, almonds, and lots of blackberries and raspberries. Oh, and two miniature chocolate chip cookies, to have at tea time.

Now I just need to make sure to set aside time to do the batch cooking every couple of days ...
Stuff! Things! Let's see, I need to write a book review, write a blurb for a Kinda-Sekrit Project, and then do a lot of writing on another Kinda-Sekrit Project. Plus get to work on clearing out and organizing my storage heap room. Of course, what I would rather be spending my time on are thrift shopping and aa couple of sewing projects. So really, no change from the usual state of things there.

A Question Relating to One of the Kinda-Sekrit Projects: I need venue suggestions. It would need to hold about 200 people, be at least two rooms, and not be terrifyingly expensive. Oh, and would allow alcohol. Any suggestions?

Shallow Fashion Details; or Yes, I Call This Summer Wear )

Whoo, don't wanna be at work today. Nothing dire (work has gotten better recently, for various reasons), it's just that there are other things I'd much rather be doing.

So, how are folks? What did you do during the Great LJ Outage of '07?
Y'know, I slept *great* last night. Why am I so tired and fuzzy-brained? Also, I don't know if it's because the tiredness is making me really uncoordinated, but in a spectacular display of grace and agility, I managed to walk out of my shoes. Twice. As in, one of my shoes stayed on the ground when I stepped forward. Maybe evil gremlins secretly replaced my usual black sparkly flats with identical ones that are a half-size larger, I dunno.

The weekend was good. Filled with socializing, including going to the birthday party of a very serious young lady. clicky link! (We gave her EBA recruits, of course.)

Part of the problem with today being filled with gronk is that I'm trying to read the Quick Installation Guide for the product my team produces. I need to set up a test machine with it, but my brain doesn't seem to be taking in any of the information. This is Not Good, obviously. Plus I keep being distracted by [livejournal.com profile] shrift, who is made of awesome. Seriously. You've no notion. [livejournal.com profile] shrift is made of awesome for many, many reasons, but the fact that she shares a certain musical obsession with me (and [livejournal.com profile] bluejay23) just adds to it. ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, that was your warning not to click, or else suffer your eyes rolling right out of your head.)

What else, what else? The Placebo concert is this weekend, whee! Oh, and yes, I am attending the Special Gothic Night of Edward Scissorhands next Friday. (Without [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, because he has no desire whatsoever to see a musical stage production of Edward Scissorhands. Try to look surprised at this revelation, go on.)

I would dearly love to see more of you people at social-type things, but my schedule is, um, a bit booked. And I need to work on a book proposal. So don't be terribly surprised if you don't see me out and about very often.

I very cleverly arranged to take today off as a personal holiday, so I would be able to get ready for going to PDX for the Vampire Ball, instead of feeling all distracted at work. This also meant I got to sleep in, which was glorious.

For whatever reason, I woke up craving coffee. Over the past three months, I've completely switched to drinking tea in the mornings, but no, this morning I wanted coffee. Since [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage has also been cutting back on his caffeine consumption, all we had in the house was decaf. Which was tasty, but I decided to get a small cup of French roast when we went to Whole Foods for lunch to really satisfy my coffee craving.

I mentioned the "I've been cutting back on caffeine" thing, right? Wheeeee! Coffeeeeee! I feel awake. Very awake. Of course, having half of a Deathcake from Cupcake Royale probably also cranked my brain up just a bit.

(omg, so good. Imagine a slab of death-by-chocolate cake with extremely dark chocolate, and made by the geniuses at Cupcake Royale. Oh here, just use this handy clicky link, and read all about the Deathcake for yourself. Espresso ganache! Wheeeee!)

So anyway, I'm good and wired for finishing up my prep for the Vampire Ball. The next thing to do is try on my outfit to make sure everything does what it's supposed to, and then start packing.
