For one thing, I wore a favorite outfit:

For another thing, there were cupcakes. LOTS of cupcakes.

Work is still overwhelming, and hoo-boy am I behind on writing, and I'm still kinda tired even tho' I went to bed at 10:30 last night. But at least right now I don't want to burst into tears and then set everything on fire*. So, vast improvement over yesterday, yes.

*"Burn everything you love and then burn the ashes ..." Gratuitous inclusion of song lyrics!
I was very productive last night, and even convinced myself to do 40 minutes on the exercise bike. (The trick, apparently, is to bribe myself with watching part of Life on the Murder Scene (the "Revenge"-era MCR documentary) while pedaling. Shut up, I own my fangirlish ways.)

This morning, I posted a new Gothic Charm School, applied extra-sparkly eye makeup, and while applying my eyeliner decided that to really make today better than yesterday, I needed to wear one of my favorite outfits, not the outfit I had set out last night.

Olde Skool text-version Shallow Fashion Details! )

(The Goth at the Office photo will happen later.)

Now I focus on work stuff, and listen to the bandom playlist to remind myself that no matter how bad I felt yesterday, I am more emotionally stable than Pete Wentz. (That's a very comforting thing to remind myself, sometimes.)

Sure, my subconscious decided to give me a slightly unsettling dream last night, but that was easy to shake off. Today is much, MUCH better!

- I finished the first draft of my next story for Steampunk Tales Magazine last night and sent it off to the beta readers!

- The weather is cool and cloudy!

- I'm wearing a really cute ruffled military jacket that my Mom (hi [livejournal.com profile] cupcakegothmom!) helped me get. (Coupons and discounts = good.)

- The next book in the Parasol Protectorate series comes out next week!

- The tools at work are no longer thwarting me!

- Did I mention the weather? Cool? Overcast? Positively autumnal? Mmmm.

So! Thank you for yesterday's pix of baby bats and bunnies, entertaining clicky-links, and comments. They did help improve my mood. I hope that all of you are having a good day, too.
Today I had enough energy to put on makeup!

(Look, I like playing with makeup. Going for nearly two weeks without playing with makeup was making me cranky and twitchy.)

Thanks to a whim to play with my Lip Tar colors, I have discovered that I look ... odd with bright pinky-fuchsia lipstick. Now I know. Also, this may be a sign that cabin fever is setting in.

I am hoping that the next step in my recovery is that my brain comes back enough for me to work on my writing projects. I keep opening up notebooks or documents, staring at them, and then going "Nope. Words Gone." Vexing, very vexing.
And yeah, I was pretty glum. Having a potential job lead fizzle out is apparently a sure way to plunge my mood into the depths. But you nice folks shared lots of happy things with me, which helped.

I spent the day working on the stripy ruffled skirt o' doom. This is possibly the most intricate version of one of these skirts I've ever attempted, since it involves a panel covered with tiers of ruffles, ruffles at the hem of two other panels, 20 buttons on the front panel, and a lining. But! It is almost completely finished! All that is left is to sew on all 20 buttons. (Yes, I like buttons. And the Infamous BlueJay gave me an automatic buttonholer that is the coolest thing ever.)

So yes, that's what I'll be doing tonight. After I finish reviewing the suggestions from the beta readers for the next GCS column, that is. With A Company Of Wolves playing in the background.

EDITED TO ADD: The signs of a quiet night: sewing on buttons, [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny sitting with me, and Trinian asleep on my feet.

Tonight I am going to LEAVE THE HOUSE. To go eat sushi, and then have a celebratory cupcake! Because I am finally feeling better. Not 100%, mind you, but well enough to actually do small amounts of stuff without immediately needing to have a bit of a lie-down while the room stops wobbling.

This is especially good timing, as I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon! It's for a contractor editor position at the company I was previously a full-time employee at. If you lovely people could send good luck my way tomorrow, that would be lovely.

Tomorrow will also (most likely) see the posting of a new Gothic Charm School lesson. And on Thursday, the Closet Culling Sale will happen!

Vampirates. Oh dear. I read about half of it, and realized that I wasn't retaining any of it. It didn't hold my interest at all. So it is now in the box of books that need to go to Half Price Books, and instead I will turn my attentions to something that I know will be good: The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan. Of course, most of Caitlin's writing also creeps me right out, so perhaps I shouldn't read that book before trying to sleep tonight ...
Two pots of strong tea, coating my neck and forehead with [livejournal.com profile] staxxy's magical Kiss It Better, and two rounds of Advil Cold & Sinus later, my sinus migraine seems to be abating. Thank heavens. Of course, now I'm all sorts of jacked up on caffeine, but that means I'll be more focused on Getting Things Done, right? (Just agree with me here, people.)

So, having set Renfield the iPod shuffling through my "Ladies Glow" playlist (I'm trying to psych myself up to exercise today), I discovered I do have a shameful musical confession.

I am not much for re-mixes or mash-ups. But A Plus D's (clicky-link!) mash-up of "Sexyback" + "Peek-a-Boo"? I love. I would dance to.

Yes, I will cheerfully and unashamedly admit to my affection for Motley Crue (Nikki Sixx!), but admitting to liking a mash-up of a Justin Timberlake song feels strangely wrong to me.

---

I should probably go eat some more food to absorb all this caffeine, shouldn't I?
