I want this. Oh blessed Bela Lugosi, I want this.

The Vampire's Coffin journal (clicky-link!)

::makes grabbyhands and nearly-inaudible squeaks at the monitor::

It's PERFECT FOR ME. I WANTS IT.
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to make a post about 2012 in the next few days. But for now? Hey look, this is the story I wrote for Yuletide!

Lobelia and Aconite
Fandom: Addams Family (1991)

A boy ... a girl ... an open grave.

---

Tonight, I need to respond to all the nice comments people left on the story.
The long skirt edition!

I blame [personal profile] jola for this, because she's been posting clicky-links of awesome skirts, but I am starting to think about adding some long skirts back into wardrobe rotation. (If you listen, you can hear the Stroppy One cheering, because he thinks my long skirts are far more elegant than my usual knee-length ones. He thinks the knee-length skirts are cute, but long ones are elegant, and he loves elegant.)

So! When the weather becomes a bit more autumnal, I may pull some of my long skirts (and petticoats!) out of retirement. Plus I can wear my knee-length skirts *over* the longer skirts, for extra flounce! However, the new skirts I'm ogling:

The "Tigris" skirt and the "Petticoat Asinina" from Somnia Romantica. Actually, I want everything from this store. EVERYTHING.

The Gloria di Notte skirt by [personal profile] kambriel. Look at that fabric! ::swoons::

The Gothic Aristocrat chiffon skirt from Retroscope Fashions.

I would wear this over another skirt, of course. But it's too small for my hips, and Dark Fusion Boutique doesn't offer it in a larger size. Woe!

Oh, and fellow Eldergoths: remember those long black lace skirts we all had in the 90s? The broomstick skirts that were full enough to wear over a petticoat (if you removed the inner liner/slip)? They live in the "vintage" section on Etsy, and almost all of them are tagged with the "grunge" keyword. Some with descriptions of Can be worn as a strapless minidress!!! ;) This pains me.
Full of clicky-links as far as the eye can see, it's the Gothic Charm School Holiday Gift Guide!

My beta readers/sanity check people are awesome. Any problems with links are my fault, not theirs, and if there are any, please tell me so I can fix things!

Also, just like always, please help spread the word about the new post? Thank you!

::whimpers, paws at laptop screen::

Remember that post I made last week, talking about the pink silk velvet J.Peterman waistcoat that I've been searching for?

Guess what popped up on eBay?

Watch this space, it looks like there's going to be a closet-culling sale REALLY SOON, so I can afford to get it. Dear Dread Lords of eBay, please let no one hit the "Buy It Now" button before I have the money.

GodDAMMIT, I hate being unemployed. HATE.

Where My Goths At? - a blog post about growing up goth. On CNN.com. That name-checks me. ON CNN.COM, THAT NAME-CHECKS ME.

::hyperventilates a tiny bit::
I know that any money I make at Sunday's Mourning Market is going to be spent on a trip to the dayspa, because spending a day DOING NOTHING, wandering from hot pool to sauna, and getting a body scrub will be really good for me and the Antibiotic Cellular Death Explosion (TM the Infamous BlueJay). But what I want to spend the money on?

The Shrine "Toreador" jacket in black (clicky-link!)

That, or my next tattoo. I really, really am craving new ink. Plus, the next tattoo is in memorial of my Mom, so it's even more important to me.

I will be a smart cupcake, and spend money on something that will give me health benefits. That doesn't stop me from wistfully window-shopping, tho'.
But. Eeeee! Tiny crocheted Beetlejuice! I wants it!

Clicky-link! Beetlejuice! I am still making squeaky noises at the picture!

(I just discovered I don't have any Beetlejuice icons. How is this even possible?)

I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO LEARN ANOTHER HANDICRAFT HOBBY. I don't.
Thanks to some shenanagins over on Twitter last night, I, um, now know what my next writing project is. So now my non-dayjob to-do list looks like this:

- Finish writing proposal for current fiction project. (TODAY, JILLIAN.)

- Send it and sample chapters to Agent of Awesome.

- Write new stuff for GCS.

- Write 5K of ridiculousness for that other possible project.

- Go go go on NEW new project, as the ideas for it are scurrying around your head and starting to bite you.

- Write more stuff for GCS.

Also, HOW MUCH do I covet this journal set on Etsy? (clicky-link!) Oh, lots. More than you might realize. Not because it's related to Titus Andronicus, but because of how it looks, and because it would be PERFECT for the NEW new project.

(I always have blank books that are specific to certain writing projects. The current fiction project has a Keep Calm and Have A Cupcake journal, the assorted silly steampunk stuff has a beautiful green & gold stamped journal, there's a big book of GCS notes, aaaaand ... yeah. That bloody notebook would be PERFECT. Curse this being solidly in debt to the house!)

---

Anyway, progress! My brain is starting to return, because I've been writing every night. Last night I worked on the book proposal, and then when I quit for the night to go take a bubble bath, I ended up spending most of the bath precariously balancing my Keep Calm and Have A Cupcake journal on the edge of the tub, because part of the story was jumping up and down and shrieking in my brain. So, progress. Yay.

REMINDER: I'll be at the Night Kitchen this Sunday night! Hijinks start around 8PM, please join us!

Ugh

( Feb. 2nd, 2011 11:01 am)
Today: not great. I was blindsided by a wave of missing Mom last night, right when we were settling down to go to sleep. I hate crying in general, but especially when I'm trying to go to sleep. So I have that post-crying hangover feeling today.

Also, I'm just tired and achy. Which is another reason for the ugh. Thank goodness I am working from home today, with tea and cats and comfort movies.

In addition to the dayjob, I need to respond to several emails (dear [livejournal.com profile] staysonpaper, I got your message! I will reply enthusiastically today!), organize stuff for this weekend, and ... drat. I'm forgetting something. Augh!

But seriously. Not in a great headspace right now. I know it happens, and it will happen, but I still don't like it. Send distractions.

(Ooooh, speaking of distractions: [livejournal.com profile] ailleann23 posted a link to Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco covering "Science Fiction Double Feature" (clicky-link!) While I am not usually a PatD fan (I think they're okay, but they don't make me go all flailyhands), there is something about this video that makes me grin. So adorable!) (Which tangentially reminds me: [livejournal.com profile] jaborwhalky, tell me the gossip!)

Today is my mother's birthday. I miss you, Mom.

---

I may call upon the local LJ hivemind soon for help with polishing Dad's resume and job hunting. His workplace is stressful and toxic, and he doesn't need that, especially right now.

---

In completely shallow news, this is the auction I'm stalking. (clicky-link) Yes, a limited-edition velvet jacket from 2006, designed by Gerard Way of MCR. Which I wanted when it was originally released, but couldn't quite convince myself to buy it. (The fandom had not fully claimed me at that point.) I figure none of you are quite as crazy as I am, and thus will not bid on it.

---

I have the best friends in the world. I know I've said this before, but it should be repeated. Thank you, everyone, who has been propping me up.
So remember ages ago, when I posted about that auction for the antique bat fangs watch fob?

Someone on the internets made their own version.

Eee! Eeeeeeeee!

Okay, with alllllll the clever and talented people I know? We have to be able to create our own versions of these things, right? Because I need something like this. You know I do. And other friends need things like this!

::goes back to staring at the shiny thing::

===

In other news, I don't think I'm having a relapse of the Death Blarg, but I do still feel exhausted and achy. Not thrilled about this, not one bit.
And where are the knock-offs, I ask you?

Pave Punk Princess Spike Bracelet on eBay (and I think they meant pavé), for a mere $329.

I'm not going to even try and be blasé here: I think that's pretty damn cute. Rhinestone spiked bracelet! Eeeee! But THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE DOLLARS for it? Oh no, not even.

(I can't find a picture of them now, but I've seen stud earrings that match the bracelet, and those are also ridiculously cute, but insanely pricey.)

So, high-end "fashion" knock-offs of punk/deathrock stuff. I'm not surprised, I just want to know where I can find cone spikes set with rhinestones so I can make my OWN accessories.
Blame [livejournal.com profile] icprncs and [livejournal.com profile] jola for bringing this Etsy seller to my attention. TOTALLY not my fault.

Yes, I kind of want one.

Dear Stroppy One and The Infamous BlueJay: stop shaking your heads at me.
Apparently it is the time of year when very expensive things I covet come into existence.

Behold, the new print from the Gothic Lolita brand Baby the Stars Shine Bright:

The skirt (but in the wrong colorway):

$200. Aaaand probably wouldn't fit me anyway. But oooh, I love that sort of print. Look at the details!

(As someone else on [livejournal.com profile] egl said, this print makes up for the Vampire Forest print (clicky-link)) from Alice and the Pirates, BtSSB's sub-line. Which, with a name like "Vampire Forest", should have been more enticing to me than it is.)
The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box set is now available for pre-order! (clicky-link!) It comes out in December! It's huge and elaborate and comes with a large-scale zoetrope box that plays the "Music Box Suite" on an embedded chip! 16 CDs, unreleased and expanded soundtracks, a DVD, a 250 page book, and a skull (Skellington!) -USB drive that has all the MP3s of the music! A limited edition of 1,000!

$499 before tax and shipping.
[Error: unknown template qotd]

Honestly? A combination of writer/fashion designer/wealthy eccentric. I like to think that I'm actually working toward living that dream.

... which reminds me, tonight I need to do some writing. In addition to packing stuff to mail off to people.

---

In other news, I am fascinated with the offerings from Etsy seller BloodMilk. (clicky-link!) I especially covet the lydia sparrow claw ring (clicky-link!) (not that I have a finger that doesn't already have a ring on it, but still), and the nevermore claw ritual necklace (clicky-link!). I really, REALLY covet the nevermore claw. Hoo-boy.
The Closet Culling Sale of Doom post will go up THIS FRIDAY (8/13) at NOON PACIFIC STANDARD TIME! Tiny hats! Boots! Jackets, skirts, blouses, Lip Service stuff! And remember, I'm only taking PayPal this time around.

---

So, clothing coveting. Lip Service's Step In Time line for Fall 2010, to be exact.

I love this fabric. LOVE. )
Mattel has started making dolls that are cute girl monsters. Monster High! (clicky-link to the Mattel site for them!)

They're ADORABLE. Let me direct your attention to Draculaura. (clicky-link!) She's a vampire. With long, straight black hair (with pink streaks!), who wears black and pink, carries a black and pink parasol, and has a pet bat.

::blinks a lot, then makes flailyhands of glee::

The Stroppy One, when I showed the Monster High dolls to him, agreed that they were very cute, but felt that the people who make the Bleeding Edge Goth dolls should feel a little ripped off. He's ... not wrong. (However, I think I like the face sculpt on the Monster High dolls better than the BE Goth dolls.)

To sum up: VAMPIRE DOLLY THAT IS DRESSED IN PINK AND BLACK AND COMES WITH A PARASOL. Ahem.

---

Yes, there will be SFD photos later today, if I can sweet-talk [livejournal.com profile] mauraanderson into wielding the iPhone camera for me.
Madonna is releasing a fashion collection with Macy's. Based on Material Girl. (clicky-link!)

On the one hand, say what now? Really? Does the world NEED another go-round of lace bike shorts under mini skirts?

On the other hand, the movie was silly fun, and oooh, remember THE BOOTS? (clicky-link! I coveted those boots like mad, even though I wouldn't have been able to walk more than three feet in them before falling over.

But I really am torn as to whether this is a sign of the apocalypse or not. What's next, a fashion line based on Pretty In Pink? That still would be better than the Grunge revival, though. That much I AM certain of.
