[livejournal.com profile] queeniex pointed me at this dress from FanPlusFriend. (Clicky link!) It has cupcakes printed on the bottom hem. It is available in black.

::tries to recover from the swooning::

It's so cute! Of course, even *I* am worried that it would be just a shade too whimsical for my own good. Not to mention that I don't know if that collar and those sleeves would be as flattering as I hope. But that doesn't stop my hindbrain from flailing about while shrieking "Cupcake dress! Cupcake dress!"

I think that dress would look great on you. The fact that the detailing is the same color as the dress keeps it from being too much, imo.

I am stunned you are glossing over the fact that it is available in *pink*.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Because I wear black with pink accents, not the other way around. I'll wear pink skirts, but they have to have black trim, and be worn with black jackets. The only way I'd wear an outfit with more pink is if it was, oh, a dress made from pink-and-black striped fabric. :)

get a pink one, and a black one, and mix and match parts, and sew them back together.

pink with a black bib and sleeves, with a black cupcake ruffle and hem on the skirt... and black with a pink bib and sleeves witha black ruffle and hem on the skirt....

<-- enabler.

it would be perfect if you can get it in black with pink cupcakes :)

Oooo! In black! SO CUTE! You must have it. I so decree.

I just checked the paperwork. This is the part where I am contractually obiligated to remind you that want does not equal need.

I don't like that dress. Adults should not wear Peter Pan collars and short puffy sleeves on the same garment. On a grownup it smacks too much of "frumpy church lady."

That said, I do think you should have a *skirt* with cupcakes around the hem.

That's what I was thinking, with a side of "Hmmm, mutton dressed as lamb?"

But yes, a black skirt with pink cupcakes is exactly what I need. I wonder if F+F would do a custom order for me ...

Ditto ditto ditto. I do not like that bodice. Too cutesy little-girlie. I just think the whole EGL thing falls apart on ladies our age (sorry!) & goes into frumpsville. I'm super-paranoid about those collars, like recently when faux Victorian shirts have been in all the mall stores. Tempting, but potentially scary too.

The skirt, sure. Good potential there. Altho, I think you could accomplish the same effect with appliques & bows & such on a full skirt.

F+F is generally open to custom orders, and I think they'd be happy to make a black/pink skirt without the bodice :)

Not that I'm enabling or nothin' ;>

Are you ready to admit EGL?

I don't like the collar. It's too twee to the point of silly for an adult.

From: [identity profile] naissa.livejournal.com

I agree on the collar and sleeves. I think there are maybe 5 people in the whole world who can pull off Peter Pan with a side of Mutton as an adult. If you are one of those people, I say go for it. If not, I say rock the shit out the skirt, if you wanna.

From: [identity profile] javagoth.livejournal.com

I think you need to have it. That would normally not be my style but when I look at it with you in mind the brain smiles.

From: [identity profile] javagoth.livejournal.com

Reading the comments I went back to have another look at the dress. Certainly the collar and sleeves are not such that would look good on me but I think you could pull it off. I also thought it would be a little less cutsie looking in black. Besides, it never occurred to me that you would wear it as is without tweaking it to make it your own.

The sleeves seemed shorter than what you I've seen you wear so I thought a jacket would be worn over it or something. The collar... yeah the collar is pretty bad - but maybe it could be altered? Since you do have good sewing ability perhaps you should use it as the inspiration for you own lovely cupcake creation.

Thank god a bunch of people spoke out against the collar & sleeves. I was beginning to think I was going to have to stand my ground on disliking the dress against everyone else's opinion.

Which, of course, I would have.

Have you ever bought from them? Because I NEEEED this jacket and need advice. Can they be trusted?

I have ordered from them in the past, and have been very pleased with the items. I've liked the skirts I've ordered better than the dresses or jackets, but I have really weird fit issues (busty AND short-waisted).

Their high collars look like ass on me. Can we say, "no-neck"?

From: [identity profile] maiaarts.livejournal.com

ummmmm

It seems to me that you could so easily make something better-
It looks like they created a design for a cupcake and then just add it to a skirt. Well, heck to that - that is easy!

If you wanted, we could cut out a stamp for you and you could bleach out or dye cupcake FABRIC - celadon has found that certain dark red fabric turns pink when he bleaches out!!!!!!!!

Then you could have BAT CUPCAKES on ANYTHING else you want = way cooler than this dress which is frumpy.

And I am not even saying how cool it would be to take your bats from the LAdy of the Manners and make them into stamps for you - Lady of the Manners bat fabric....... Can you say freakishly cool?

We just made a stamp for Serenity and did stuff for the Charity Auction that happens tomorrow - so cool.....

Just let us (me and celadon) know.... ;)

Oh wow! I would want to wear those clothes every single day!!!

Oh yes yes yes, very much so.

Perhaps somewhere out in the universe there are cupcake appliques!

From: [identity profile] mlle-rouge.livejournal.com

I have seen a cupcake ribbon recently. Maybe you could sew something like that on a full skirt? (I'll give you the link when I'll remember it).

I *like* the collar and sleeves I think it is cute!
