Stripey "Bastian" blouse and ascot from Kambriel, velvet waistcoat from Chicstar, silk skirt from a friend, pointy buckle boots from Etsy.

That might be a hand gesture involving a spell. It might not. You don’t expect me to tell you the answer, do you?
Also known as: What Jilli Has Been Up To, Recently.

Saturday night was the Steampunk Exhibition Ball! The Stunt!Husband escorted me, as the Stroppy One is deadline-stricken.

Cut to save people's bandwidth ... )

That's been the excitement in my life for the past few days. Well, that, job-hunting (which I have some very promising leads on, everyone cross your fingers for me!), writing, and teaching myself Audacity.

A bathroom mirror shot today, as [livejournal.com profile] mauraanderson is on vacation.

In other news, why is it so difficult to find a b&w striped blazer in a size 12/14? I want another one to dye pink. Is that so much to ask?

So there I was yesterday, happily (still) listening to Within Temptation, when I swear I could hear my brain produce the screech of a needle across a record, and then my brain demanded "Womanizer". Yes, as in the Britany Spears song. Look, I don't understand it either. I mean, in my head there's some context and back story as to why I personally find the song hilarious, but for the most part? I blame [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre and SA. (I blame them for most of the ridiculous poppy music I end up with on my iPod, actually.)

Speaking of ridiculous poppy music, yes, I took advantage of Amazon's free mp3 credits and sale and purchased Adam Lambert's album, because I want to see that fabulous sparkly gay boy do well in the charts. Because honestly? I don't know how often I'd actually listen to the entire album. But my GOD, he's pretty. And straight out of Velvet Goldmine, bless. (I don't need to explain my fondness for eyeliner-bedecked boys who are heavy on the stage theatrics and spectacle, do I? Okay, just checking.)

(However, after I'm done listening to Glambert's album, I think I'm going to go back to Within Temptation. Or Sisters of Mercy. Or go on a MCR bender, I don't know.)

---

Wow, I want to be done editing this white paper I'm working on. It's ... not fun, that's for certain.

---

Today's outfit. I made the stripey skirt. The hat is from GypsyWitch designs (clicky-link!) (and oh! I want to eventually get another one in black and pink stripes!), and the necklace (that I should try to get a better photo of) is a music box pendant that is decorated with a large skull. And plays ever-so-slightly off-kilter, which I think is darling. (The necklace is from Bella Lili on Etsy, and yes, that was a clicky-link.)

And behind this cut-tag, my latest embroidered bloomers project )

Those are my darling ladies [livejournal.com profile] kambriel and [livejournal.com profile] acid_poptart at the MOMA film benefit honoring Tim Burton. I am so, SO happy for them that they were able to be there!

Thank you for all the Bombast!/Symphonic Metal recommendations, peeps! I now have more Within Temptation on Renfield the iPod, and will be sure to check out the other bands you mentioned. Except Evanescence, because I already know that there is something about the vocalist's voice that makes me want to grind my teeth.

As I said to someone in the assorted comments, I really kind of live in a musical isolation chamber. I have the stuff that I listen to, and don't learn about anything else unless someone waves their hands and says "Jilli! You must listen to this!" Let me put it this way: I have been known to not only listen to the same playlist or band over and over for days, I have been known to listen to the same song on repeat for hours at an end, because my brain goes now is the time we listen to "Last Of The Famous International Playboys" and nothing else.

See that very spiffy stripey blazer I'm wearing? Proof that the Infamous BlueJay is a rock star.

Thanks to one of my co-workers who kindly offered to take it for me. Please note, no top hat today!

Because of comments from certain people, I am contemplating taking up embroidery so I can adorn some of my bloomers with the phrase "crankypants". It would make me laugh and laugh and laugh.

So, there's this red & white striped skirt I made back in November, and have worn ... once. I think.

Candy cane skirt I made Candy cane skirt I made
Red & white striped poly satin skirt.

I am thinking about tossing it in a dye bat of Rose Pink RIT (my preferred pink dye), so it would be a red & pink striped skirt. (Yes, I know that this fabric will take dye.) What do you think, oh LJ Hivemind? Should I do that, and would I wear the skirt more often if I did? Or should I just sell the skirt off, and put money toward boooooots?
I found more shoes to sell off (including some new-in-box duplicates of certain pairs I love, but realized I don't need spares of), plus jackets and hats. I just need to find time to take pictures.

Also, why obsessive keyword searching eBay is useful:

What you can't make out in that photo is that the black stripes are edged with narrow pink stripes. Yes, the blazer came that way. It's by some British designer named Ben Sherman. I've never heard of him before, but look! He made me a blazer. How very helpful of him!

Tonight, doing some minor fit alterations to the new stripy blazer, and watching more of S2 Dexter. Have I mentioned I really really hate Lila? She's the perfect example of a certain sort of Psycho Chick I've run into in my past. Really, really hate. I have high hopes for her dying. (DO NOT TELL ME. I WILL FIND OUT, WE ARE ALMOST DONE WATCHING THIS SEASON ON DVD.)

eBay UK just sent me email letting me know that there's an auction up for the pink & black striped Miss Selfridge blazer that I'm constantly searching for. Is the blazer in my size?

::stamps feet::

No, no it is not. Not even close.

Someday one will appear in a size 12 or 14, and it will be mine. SOMEDAY.
While working from home today, I realized that I hadn't seen Trinian, Queen of Fuzzwumpia, all day. I checked her usual napping spots, but no fluffy dimwitted white cat.

Then I glanced at the armchair lair of the stuffed monsters, and noticed they looked a trifle ... askew. Discombobulated, even.

Behind the cut-tag, *five* different SFD photos. Yeah yeah, I haven't been posting them for almost a month, I know. )
As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm working on making a version of this skirt:

Picture behind the cut-tag, for ease of scrolling because I'm helpful. )

The bottom of the skirt: it looks to me like it's about a 3" - 4" band that is NOT gathered (no ruffling), but is scalloped along the bottom, with the bottom edge trimmed in small black ball fringe. Is that what it looks like to the rest of you?

Also, should I find small black ball fringe to put on my version? I think it looks darling in the photo, but I'm worried that in Real Life it will look a bit twee. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, I'm kind of assuming that you don't like the ball fringe and would prefer that I didn't copy it.) What do you people think? If I don't copy the ball fringe, I would probably edge the scallops in narrow flat black lace.

(I've already got the body of the skirt sewn. I just need to add a waistband and zipper, and then cut out and sew the bottom band. I'm getting faster at skirts, and good LORD, how did I do anything before without a serger?)
Firstly, have you people read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's brilliant recaps (clicky-link!) of Breaking Dawn? They're fantastic.

Secondly, the spoilers for that book were TRUE. And the fans of the series ARE NOT HAPPY. Really, really not happy. Which caused someone on the Amazon.com discussion boards to come up with this: Unhappy with Breaking Dawn? Don't burn it, RETURN it. (clicky-link!) Yes, people are returning their books because they are bitterly unhappy with them. I am amazed, and I can't help but wonder what this will mean for the sparkly vampire movie when it comes out in December.

(I am still going to pick up a used copy of Breaking Dawn when I find one, because after reading [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's recaps, I want to experience the sheer wrong-headedness myself for the comedy value.)

---

So! Shallow fashion coveting! Could someone explain to me why I kind of want this "Gothic Lolita Pirate Sailor Jacket"? (clicky-link!) I would have it made in black, of course. I think it's darling, but ... sailor collar? Have I lost my mind? It's just that I'm under the thrall of the "pirate emblem" patch, isn't it?

Also, I am considering trying my hand at making a version of this Angelic Pretty skirt. (Clicky-link!) I wish I knew which AP line it came from, so I could search for some more photos of it. But the version I would make wouldn't have the giant bow at the waist; I have learned that no matter how cute I find waist bows, they don't work on someone who is short-waisted and busty.

---

Other than that, not a lot is going on in my world at the moment. Well, I did finish the first draft of that Big Writing Project I've been working on. Now to read the feedback I have on it and work on the second draft ...

For sale! One brand-new “Voodoo Heart” dress from Hotrod Voodoo! Size XL: bust 42”, waist 34”, skirt length 24”.

This is an absolutely fantastic dress. I was very excited to get a stripey summer dress; remember how I had been looking for one? Aaaaand then it arrived in the mail, I tried it on, and discovered that this style of dress just wouldn’t work on my short-waisted figure. (Not to mention that I knew it was going to be a few inches too big when I ordered it, but optimistically thought that I would have no problems tailoring it. Now that I’ve seen the dress, I know any attempts on my part to alter it would result in frustration and tears, and the dress does not deserve to be put through that by me.)

So! Super-darling stripey dress, made by the talented Leigh-Ann of Hotrod Voodoo! It can be yours for $80 + postage.

Want it? Leave me a comment!
I want a b&w striped sun dress. With a full skirt and a fitted bodice (So really, like all my other sun dresses, just in a stripey incarnation.)

Don't ask me WHY I suddenly want one, because I don't know. Well, other than the fact that I like b&w stripey clothing (as in, I'm still searching for a fitted stripey blazer), and the weather is going to make sun dresses (with shrugs to cover my arms) kind of necessary.

So yes, stripey sun dress. I don't suppose any of you have seen one in your wanderings about Teh Interwebs?
There will probably be a post later, with actual words and content and stuff. But since I managed to not only have the Stroppy One take a photo this morning AND have time to download photos from the camera onto the laptop, I thought I should post some. Especially since some of you people keep telling me I need to post more photos.*

Behind the cut-tag, two more photos, both with stripes. )

*I still feel a little ... bashful? apprehensive? shy? about picspam posts, because it makes me feel like I'm (a) indulging my vanity FAR more than I should do, and (b) that it makes me look like a screaming attention whore. So I'm asking for reassurance about those things. My issues, let me show you them.

I know I ask for these every year, but this year I can give you linky-links to them. Just in case the elves in the dressmaking department are busy.

The red dress from Dracula!

The stripy polonaise I've been coveting forever and ever!

I have been very VERY good this year, what with not thumping writers OR having a complete meltdown during that last horrible deadline.

I hope things are running smoothly at the workshop! I promise I'll leave out extra ginger bats for you.

Love,

Princess Moonbeam
