Dear Self,

Just accept the fact that you're not going to find a long black lace skirt that's full enough for your liking, and that you will end up buying fabric and making a long circle skirt. The sooner you come to terms with this, the sooner you can start browsing for lace fabric, instead of fruitlessly searching for ready-made skirts.

Yes, sewing from scratch. Ugh. But nothing out there is as flowy as you want.

With exasperated fondness,

Your Brain
I'm in the depths of one of my "find all the stripey blazers!" cycles. Why yes, you remember correctly: I DO have a bunch of stripey blazers already.

None of them fit me right now*.

::And now, the Body Image Demons, performing their timeless classic "QUUUUUEEEEEEEN OF THE WAAAAAALRUS PEOPLE!"::

I am taking steps (literally, heh) to fix that situation, but that doesn't change the fact that I want stripey blazers that fit me NOW. I am in the midst of tailoring one that was in the depths of the Storage Heap Room o' Doom, but let's be realistic about me, I need at least two stripey blazers: one black and white, one black and pink.

Finding black and white stripey blazers would be a lot simpler if I wasn't fervently, irrationally against horizontal stripes for myself. But every time I think about wearing a horizontally-striped blazer, the Body Image Demons get even louder. Which I didn't think was possible.

*Okay, that's not quite true. My striped frock coat from F+F still fits. But that's a smidge more formal than I want for my usual "leaving the house" fashion. The frock coat is for fancy events, not wandering around.
I miss the Newport News catalog.

Specifically, I miss the autumn 2006-2007 catalog. That was the one with AAAAAALLLLL the romantigoth/neo-Victorian things. Short mandarin-collared velvet jackets! The infamous velvet military coat that I swear every single one of us gothy ladies owned! Lace blouses with ascots! Cotton gauze blouses with high collars and ruffles! Everything in black, ivory, and burgundy!

Yes, I know, Newport News is now under the Spiegel umbrella. But they haven't made anything in years like they did in those seasons, and I still haven't found good replacements for some of the items that have finally (finally!) frayed and fallen apart.

EDITED TO ADD: Seriously, if any of you have this blouse in a size 14 in ivory or black, and you want to get rid of it, TELL ME. It is one of my Perfect Blouses.
Hey ElderGoths! Remember the Dior Plastic Shine lip lacquers? I would kill to have those re-released. Okay, I would kill to have the "Memorable Violet" and "Outspoken Violet" re-released. "Memorable Violet" was as close to the perfect color as I had ever found. I'm assuming that even if I still *had* a tube of it, it's probably a little beyond the use-by date, drat it all.

(This post is prompted by this photo, btw.)
Dear Cosmetic Companies,

You know what you should do? You should study the color of very ripe Bing cherries, and match it exactly in a lipstick. No, don't give it a brown undertone, don't make it lighter, and don't make it only available in a sheer formula. An opaque, satin-finish lipstick. That's all I'm asking for.

(Dear NARS Cosmetics, yes, I know that your "Chandernagor" matte lip stain is almost exactly what I'm talking about. Could you please make it available in the USA again? That would be great.)

Fondly,

Cupcake Goth

eBay UK just sent me email letting me know that there's an auction up for the pink & black striped Miss Selfridge blazer that I'm constantly searching for. Is the blazer in my size?

::stamps feet::

No, no it is not. Not even close.

Someday one will appear in a size 12 or 14, and it will be mine. SOMEDAY.
::sighs, presses back of hand to forehead::

I want my everyday clothing to be more elaborate, more eccentric.

::pauses, waits for everyone to stop muttering "OH GOOD GOD, HERE SHE GOES AGAIN!". waits some more::

No, I'm serious. I want to incorporate more mini hats and fancy accessories into my usual daywear. This is what happens when I go to an event full of pretty people in pretty clothes AND spend time browsing on Etsy*. Maybe this weekend I'll take some time to really rummage through the closets and see what fun, new-to-me outfits I can assemble.

*Dear self,

searching on keywords such as "Victorian Gothic" or "Steampunk" is a BAD IDEA. It leads to coveting a gazillion new shiny things, and also leads to being vaguely dissatisfied with your already very lovely, eccentric, and ENORMOUS clothing collection. Knock it off.

Love,
Your common sense, straining to be heard over the magpie portion of your brain.
