Firstly, have you people read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's brilliant recaps (clicky-link!) of Breaking Dawn? They're fantastic.

Secondly, the spoilers for that book were TRUE. And the fans of the series ARE NOT HAPPY. Really, really not happy. Which caused someone on the Amazon.com discussion boards to come up with this: Unhappy with Breaking Dawn? Don't burn it, RETURN it. (clicky-link!) Yes, people are returning their books because they are bitterly unhappy with them. I am amazed, and I can't help but wonder what this will mean for the sparkly vampire movie when it comes out in December.

(I am still going to pick up a used copy of Breaking Dawn when I find one, because after reading [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's recaps, I want to experience the sheer wrong-headedness myself for the comedy value.)

---

So! Shallow fashion coveting! Could someone explain to me why I kind of want this "Gothic Lolita Pirate Sailor Jacket"? (clicky-link!) I would have it made in black, of course. I think it's darling, but ... sailor collar? Have I lost my mind? It's just that I'm under the thrall of the "pirate emblem" patch, isn't it?

Also, I am considering trying my hand at making a version of this Angelic Pretty skirt. (Clicky-link!) I wish I knew which AP line it came from, so I could search for some more photos of it. But the version I would make wouldn't have the giant bow at the waist; I have learned that no matter how cute I find waist bows, they don't work on someone who is short-waisted and busty.

---

Other than that, not a lot is going on in my world at the moment. Well, I did finish the first draft of that Big Writing Project I've been working on. Now to read the feedback I have on it and work on the second draft ...

Not even a third of the way in to the first recap and:

a) I can never listen to Muse again. Damn it.

b) DENALI clan? In ALASKA?? Who are wild and uncontrollable? This is like badfic writ large!

c) VULTURI? facepalm

It gets crackier, trust me. I suspect even some of the DA trainwreck fic that [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre links to would be considered to have logical plots compared to some of the things in Breaking Dawn.

I think I'm more amused by the meta-commentary, like the Pattinson Hair Warning System. OMG, the poor actor, seriously.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oh, I know it's at all of the deep-discount places. But I don't want ANY of my money going to the author. Yes, I'm that petty.

From: [identity profile] burrell.livejournal.com

fair enough. I don't even plan on buying the book second hand because I don't want to have to get rid of it. I'll just borrow it eventually.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

the jacket is actually terribly cute, and would look darling on you. It has similar lines to jackets you already own, and it is pirate themed. Of course you like it. I suspect that if you could see the sailor collar in BACK, it may be less cute, but the front is adorable.

The skirt is awesome and now I want one too. harumph.

Also... I sent you a couple of emails... did you get them?

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

the first was an "all done yay" reply to the group for proof. and the second was an email with 2 attachments... (*rummages through sent mail*) looks like it went to the GCS address, I have forwarded to the gmail...

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda is now my hero.

..and now I'm giggling uncontrollably, which is going to cause some funny looks from my coworkers. Whee!

The Kid just finished her copy... shall i ask her if you can borrow it?

I read BD all weekend and was so angry. I wrote three or four journal entries about it...

I can't believe she did this. God, it was awful! I feel like such an idiot for liking the first three now.

Guess you were right all along.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I saw your entries. And don't feel like an idiot for liking the first three: you like what you like. Remember I found the first three entertaining in a junk-food sort of way.

I saw an interview with SMeyer where she said that the ending of BD was originally how she wanted to end Twilight.

From: [identity profile] smu.livejournal.com

They were entertaining in a junk food sort of way. I still like Twilight, but man, did she totally mess this up in every possible way!

THIS is how she wanted to end Twilight? Good lord. I bet if she pulled this in Twilight, it would be an unpopular, bargain bin paperback by now.

From: [identity profile] mina5643.livejournal.com

I wonder what SMeyer's response is to her fans' backlash.

And I love that jacket, regardless of collar. It's a nice jacket! It'd go great with long or short skirts.

...And now I don't have to read the series. Ever. Hooray for [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda!

From: [identity profile] m-cobweb.livejournal.com

It's an adorable jacket, that's why you like it.

From: [identity profile] tzaddi-93.livejournal.com

The sailor collar of the jacket reminds me vaguely of the "By the Sea" costuming in Sweeney Todd, which I remember you just loved. It makes sense to me.

On the book--since when can you return a book to a retail store because you don't like the story?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

The Husband took one look at the jacket and said something like "Ohgoodgod no." :)

According to the return policies of places like B&N and Borders, as long as you have a receipt and the book is in "like new" condition, any book can be returned for whatever reason within 14 days. I'll be very curious to see if those policies change.

From: [identity profile] tzaddi-93.livejournal.com

Are these hardback or trade paper/regular paper? It's really, really hard to read a book all the way to the end and not have the usage show on a paperback book.

I love the jacket. I think I have the same Jacket Recognition Criteria that you do. I personally would wear the jacket with a pencil skirt, because I am like that, or possibly a short pleated skirt, but it's a lovely jacket.

I could hook you up with a .pdf of That Book.

From: [identity profile] ozitonaranjo.livejournal.com

I wouldn't worry for the movie. The books are all the rage on my mommy message board.

I've got a hold on them at the library but there's a wait. lol! Just finished all of the Elizabeth Aston novels (she of Mr. Darcy's Daughters' fame) and need more stuff to read.

From: [identity profile] spitecandy.livejournal.com

I just finished Breaking Dawn. And I laughed hard at Cleo Lindas write up of it. I agree with the Mary Sue stuff and everything she says but she, and I still seem to appreciate the series for the fun of it. Im so not seeing that movie with the not nearly attractive enough Cedric Diggory playing someone infinitely supposedly more attractive than Cedric cross between Marlon Brando and the Elephant Man.

There. Let us never speak of it.

Its the ball fringe on that skirt......so cute!
