Part 3 of this ongoing madness of trying on BRIGHT pink lipstick. Makeup For Ever Aqua Lip liner in “16c”, with NYX “Hot Pink” lipstick on top. And hair that is going through goth upkeep tomorrow.

I’m going to try this lip liner under one of my dark red lipsticks and (maybe Revlon Black Cherry?) and see how that looks. But I kinda like the OMG BRIGHT PINK lipstick thing. I need to try it with a darker smoky eye shadow, copious amounts of black liquid liner, and a super-witchy black lace outfit, too.

I was out two days last week because of a migraine - stupid changeable spring weather that makes me want to drill a hole in my skull. But! Back at the office today, and haven't yet wanted to set fire to anyone.

The skirt is by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] kambriel, who I get to see in a little under two weeks!

Eldergoth/a.g.f. hivemind question: Does anyone know what happened to the clothing company Gothic LTD. I unearthed their catalog from one of my bookshelves the other day and was overcome with nostalgia. I may scan the catalog postcards and gradually post them on Tumblr and here, because they're a concise look at the sort of Romantic Goth fashion that so many of us aspired to in the early-to-mid 90s.
For one thing, I wore a favorite outfit:

For another thing, there were cupcakes. LOTS of cupcakes.

Work is still overwhelming, and hoo-boy am I behind on writing, and I'm still kinda tired even tho' I went to bed at 10:30 last night. But at least right now I don't want to burst into tears and then set everything on fire*. So, vast improvement over yesterday, yes.

*"Burn everything you love and then burn the ashes ..." Gratuitous inclusion of song lyrics!
But I went to bed earlier last night, dammit!

Goth at the Office: more pink and black. Batwing-hem jacket and lace jabot by the Infamous BlueJay, skirt by me. Desperately-pretending-to-be-alert expression because of two pots of tea and a cup of coffee.

Close-up of the lace jabot and jawbone necklace:

And teatime with monsters:

Tonight: try to go to bed EVEN EARLIER. Ahahahaha. Remind me, when is this exercise thing going to give me more energy?

There is something about this outfit that makes me feel taller than usual. I don't know why.

The brocade frock coat is from ChicStar, and was a design by Elaine at [livejournal.com profile] artofadornment! It's wonderful. My only caveat is that it runs small. I knew that and made sure to purchase one that was two sizes up from what I wear (which means one size up from what I wear in items from ChicStar), because I figured I could take it in if needed. Surprise! It didn't need ANY alterations, and fits perfectly.

Tall. Tall and imperious. Yes, that's how I feel right now. Which is good, because I have to go Have Gentle Words with some people at work about terminology issues.
In other words, knee-length fluffy skirts and pink & black.

I am TIRED. The prospect of sleeping in tomorrow fills me with woozy glee.
Well, kinda big hair. Mild big hair compared to some of my previous hairstyles, but still! Backcombing and hairspray were involved*.

Also, behold my fancy fancy skirt, made by [personal profile] kambriel, for the Steamcon fashion show from a couple of years ago.

*The somewhat ridiculously-named product of "What A Tease!" by Big Sexy Hair is AMAZING. They are not kidding with the label of "backcomb in a bottle". Getting my hair to do this took less than 10 minutes.

Pink and black stripes, and the faintly blank look of "Have I taken care of everything before I go to the conference?"

Because if I haven't mentioned it, I'm out of town all next week at a conference. In LAS VEGAS. Yes, I'll be spending 8 hours a day in classes, but in the evenings, slot machines! Drinky-drinks! Aaaaaand being a responsible adult and getting enough sleep so I can pay attention to the classes I'm taking, but hey. There will be some fun in there, yes.

I want to Do Stuff to my hair. Specifically, I want to eventually have primarily cupcake pink hair with black bangs and streaks. What I can't figure out is: is this just my every-three-months-or-so urge to change my hair, or is it my "I'm stressed out about stuff ooh I coud do something to my hair color!" reaction?

Either way, if I do end up doing this, there is going to be RESEARCH involved. I've been coloring the black parts of my hair with demi-perm (Wella ColorCharm) for over a year now, and that should be easier to lift/remove than the old classic of N1 permanent color, right?

Also, if I end up doing this, I would somehow convince myself to be patient (I can hear the Stroppy One laughing at that statement) and let my natural color grow out for a while. ::shudder::
Mmm, autumnal weather! Which makes me think of boots, which leads me to stare longingly at photos of the two pairs of boots which are at the top of my coveting list. The boots that I hope someday, some glorious day, will make their way to me. Even though BOTH of these styles are no longer manufactured.

Firstly, the Fluevogs!

These are the Babycakes. I have them in all black, and I love them. They are possibly my favorite pair of boots ever. I would LOVE to also have them in the pink X wine colorway. (The Stroppy One isn't terribly fussed on them, saying he doesn't think they would go with enough items in my wardrobe. I think he is WRONG LIKE A WRONG THING. Ahem.)

Then, the boots I covet more than any other. I've wittered about them before. I keep hoping that someone will someday contact me and say "Hey! I've found a pair of them in your size!" My ridiculous daydreams about impossible-to-find boots, let me tell you about them. The Helene Angelique "Camee" boots.

OMG your hat plays music! OMG your hat plays music!
Not only was Domestinatrix's top hat made of metal, it had a tiny music box that played "Here Comes The Sun". I am consumed with envy.
Behind the cut, full-length photos of the dress, and a photo of the Stroppy One! )

The rest of today's outfit:

(Where the heck did that little curly flip of hair come from? My hair is nowhere near curly enough to do that, and especially not when I've got it pulled back in pigtails. Odd.)

Thank you for all the nice birthday wishes, everyone! They were very nice to read during my work day. My birthday finished up with dinner at Purple, which I adore. (I chose a "Sally Bowles" for my birthday cocktail, partially because I love St. Germain mixed with champagne, partially because I have a long history of people telling me I look like Liza Minnelli. I don't see it myself, but okay.) When we got home, the Stroppy One proved his devotion to me by agreeing to watch an episode from the True Blood S1 set he gave me instead of watching the new Star Trek movie. This is impressive because the Stroppy One is A Fan of Trek, and we've seen all of S1 True Blood. But I wanted to indulge in vampires, and he went along with it. Awww!

Today is a black lipstick day, just because. I'm wearing the MAC "midnight media" mattene lipstick over Urban Decay's "envious" lipliner, the combination of which gives me a deep black with cherry undertones. After reading the reviews of MAC's "black knight" creamsheen lipstick, I am not going to bother tracking down a tube. Instead, I will probably order a tube of NYX's black lipstick. Yes, I want more black lipstick. Embrace your gothy clichés, remember?

I started reading the new Morganville Vampires book (Fade Out) by Rachel Cain, and it's just as good as the rest of the series. Very minor spoiler )

I need to get back to editing documentation. But what I really want to do is toodle around the interwebs looking for Fluevog boots and browsing the Alchemy Gothic site for wildly over-the-top gothy accessories. But no. Focusing on the day job.

Again, thank you for the birthday wishes!

Thanks to one of my co-workers who kindly offered to take it for me. Please note, no top hat today!

Because of comments from certain people, I am contemplating taking up embroidery so I can adorn some of my bloomers with the phrase "crankypants". It would make me laugh and laugh and laugh.

So it seems that Tuesdays are going to be the days where I feel very very tired. Send tea, cupcakes, and pretty boys in eyeliner.

I did not get any writing done last night. No, instead I went to the release for the [livejournal.com profile] sepiachord companion CD at the Seattle Steamvent meet-up. (I don't really consider myself steampunk, but I have friends who are, and a lot of "steampunk" clothing works for my wardrobe once you change the color scheme. Brown, ugh.)

Anyhoodle, yes, Sepiachord companion CD! The Sepiachord crew are all people I am terribly fond of (and don't get to spend nearly enough time with), and I am very excited about the first compilation CD they've put together.

Writing after going out didn't happen because the Infamous BlueJay came over for a bit of socializing. She handed me a stripy blazer (yay!) and a buttonhole machine for my vintage Elna sewing machine. Which she taught me how to use. Now the mysteries of well-made buttonholes are mine, mine! Muah-ha-hah-ha! The Infamous BlueJay also has stated that she is going to teach me how to make waistcoats and jacket-y things, because my fear of sewing princess seams is just silly. I raise a dubious eyebrow at this, but am willing to give it a try.

I am particularly amused by my outfit today. From the waist up, it is very similar to what my avatar in Rock Band is wearing; she's wearing a black blouse with pink tie, but otherwise the same. However, she wears much shorter skirts than me. I have not worn a mid-thigh length mini skirt since I was about 22, and rather Deathrock-ish.

In conclusion, again: send tea, cupcakes, and pretty boys in eyeliner. I need to wake up.

Why yes, I'm still working from home. I'm no longer as quite as congested, coughing, or achey as I was earlier in the week, but have NO energy reserves. Washing out a cooking pot exhausts me. I don't know what strain of the death flu hit me, but I sincerely hope NONE of you have to suffer it.

So, pink & black stripy jacket that I was burbling about last night! The young lady wearing it replied to my private message that I sent her via the Emilie Autumn forum. It turns out the jacket was from Miss Selfridges in London ... four or five years ago. Fie! Of course, you know what this means, right?

Dear UK Friends who frequent thrift and charity shops,

Um, yeah. If you see a pink & black striped jacket in a UK size 14, please please purchase it for me, and I will pay you back and send you prezzies.

---

Bah. Onward to copy editing I trudge.
(Yes, I'm still sickly. I don't wanna talk about it.)

Anyhoodle, I was bimbling around the Emilie Autumn forum, and ran across some photos that were from the recent show she played in Bristol. The photo I've saved and am posting here is of two of the charming young women who are in her troup of Bloody Crumpets; her back-up singers/dancers/fellow crazy girls. The reason I'm posting this photo? Because I NEED to track down the black and pink striped jacket the girl on the right is wearing. Help me, oh internets!

I'm serious. I absolutely need to find this jacket )

I suspect the jacket is a UK item, since the young lady wearing it is an alternative model from England. Mind you, that's just a guess on my part.

Go! Go magic hivemind braintrust! Find me that jacket! ::grins::

( Nov. 27th, 2007 10:40 am)
I had to get up an hour earlier than usual this morning because of people coming to work on the house gutters. Thanks to the miracles of modern pharmacology, I fell asleep very quickly last night, and got as much sleep as I normally would. However, my body knows that it was dragged out of bed an hour earlier than it should be, so I feel kinda woozy anyway. No, I am in no way, shape, or form a morning person. Ever.

So there's this meme-thingie I've seen in a few places on my FL about describing your style, and the clothing-type things that you wear that bring you joy. I'm actually not going to do a post with that meme. I figure if you've read my LJ at all, you know what my style is and what sort of clothing makes me happy. (If you want to refresh your memory, you should to look at entries tagged with "SFDs".)

---

But speaking of personal style: someone explain to me why I suddenly want a pink velvet jacket? Okay, other than because of the cover of the Winter 2007 Gothic and Lolita Bible, that is.

Look at that! Pink and black and pirate-y!

But yeah, I am filled with a longing for a pink velvet jacket, with large black buttons. If you listen even a little bit closely, you can hear [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage sighing the sigh of the put-upon spouse.

---

More tea. Must have more tea. (My current favorite, btw, is Tea Vitale's Cocoa Cardamom Tango, which is lovely. I hope it's not a seasonal limited edition -type of flavor.)

P.S. Once again, I blame what I am listening to on [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre. She knows why.
Thanks to the enabling and encouragement from some of you, not to mention looking at this post in [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion, I now want to get a small toy ray gun and modify it. Yes, black with pink details, and make a pink holster for it.

I also want to find a pair of antique-looking goggles to customize to fit in with the pink&black aesthetic, so I can have a Cupcake Gothic Steampunk Lady Explorer outfit. I mean, I've already got the wardrobe (I'd just have to mix & match a couple of pieces). I just need the ray gun and the goggles!

[livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage has already declared that I need to step away from the ray guns and possibly have a time-out. I think he's just saying that in attempt at self-defense, because he realizes that I would need his help with painting things.

Cupcake Gothic Steampunk! C'mon, you KNOW it would be fabulous.
