In case you haven't noticed, I pretty much only buy the same three lipstick colors. (Well, four, if you include the assorted black lipsticks, too.)

[personal profile] solstice_lilac, the WnW color on here is the one I was talking about in the previous post.)

Things that are hilarious to possibly no one but myself:

Thanks to a recent purchase at the MAC counter ("Last Dance" Dazzleshadow), I have pretty much recreated one of my favorite eye shadow palettes from the early 90s.

"Last Dance" - pale pink/gold, with tons of pink glitter.
"Sketch" - matte blackened burgundy.
"Plum Dressing" - satin cherry/plum.
"Mylar" - matte white.

Between that and the fact that Rituel de Fille's "Night Wanderer", layered over MAC "Nightmoth" pencil, is super-close to the original color of Revlon's "Blackberry" lipstick (not the modern formulation--we will not speak of that pale abomination), my ElderGoth roots are showing A LOT.

... actually, they are, and I need to dye my hair. Good thing I stocked up on SFX "Burgundy Wine" and Manic Panic "Vampire Red" recently.

So, one of my new favorite makeup companies is Rituel de Fille. They make some fantastic products, and their Fortune Teller lipstick is a dead ringer for the long-discontinued and lamented Chanel Vamp. On Aug. 12th, they're launching two new colors (which they kindly sent me):

THE NIGHT WANDERER LIPSTICK IS A SMOKIER VERSION OF REVLON BLACKBERRY.

Seriously. Putting it over a burgundy lip liner (as I have in the selfie above), and ta-da! It's 1993 again, and I'm wearing the original formula of Revlon Blackberry. OH MY G-D I AM SO EXCITED.

Plus! The Sigil ash & ember eye soot, worn with the Nightshade ash & ember eye soot, duplicate my two favorite eye shadow colors from that era! I went through so many of the Revlon "Vintage Wine" eye shadow quad back in the day, and now I can STILL HAVE THAT LOOK.

As I said over on Tumblr, the only reason I wish I could still wear contacts is because there are days I miss doing swirly eyeliner.
Part 3 of this ongoing madness of trying on BRIGHT pink lipstick. Makeup For Ever Aqua Lip liner in “16c”, with NYX “Hot Pink” lipstick on top. And hair that is going through goth upkeep tomorrow.

I’m going to try this lip liner under one of my dark red lipsticks and (maybe Revlon Black Cherry?) and see how that looks. But I kinda like the OMG BRIGHT PINK lipstick thing. I need to try it with a darker smoky eye shadow, copious amounts of black liquid liner, and a super-witchy black lace outfit, too.

I was semi-productive this evening (I edited a GCS post and did the prep work so it can be published tomorrow), but writing on The Other Project just wasn't happening.

So I decided to procrastinate in a useful manner. Behold, a chart of all my lipsticks:

Yep, just as I suspected. My One True Color (and I've been saying it's my One True Color for ages) is Chanel Vamp. Which is discontinued, argh! The closest duplicate for it is Noir Red by Besame, and you guessed it, also discontinued.

But now I have a Helpful Chart to reference in the future, right?

Why yes, that is Ruthven, Vlad, and Erzabet all sitting on the couch together.

Ruthven and Vlad taking a nap!

Trinian, on the other hand, is Not Amused Even A Little Bit. To the point of growling freak-outs. So now she's on Xanax, as per our vet, and she's also wearing a kitty pheromone collar. Those two things seem to be making a big difference, thank goodness.

But Ruthven? Ruthven has other kitties to play scamper-around-the-house with. Ruthven has other kitties to warble at. Which is what we were hoping for.

Vlad and Erzabet have become even more snuggly than previously. Vlad's favorite thing to do is fall asleep on people. Erzabet will herd me to a chair so she can be petted. This makes me very, very happy.

---

In other news, paging all gothy makeup fiends: One of MAC's new fall limited edition lipsticks, "Prince Noir", is a dead-on duplicate of the long-discontinued Goth staple "Verushka". Now if they'd only make the color part of the permanent collection, dammit!
Sooo, we're in the middle of kitten-proofing the upstairs, because we are going to release Vlad and Erzabet from seclusion at the end of the week. Kitten-proofing our house is kind of a monumental task, and we've accepted that no matter how careful we are, the fuzzy little terrors will cause chaos. That's what kittens do.

While organizing things, I decided to pull out one of my old lunchbox purses to use as a storage container:

Meet Nimby Lulu, my monster lunchbox.

Yes, I had Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, and Caitlin R. Kiernan autograph my purse. It made sense at the time.

---

Yesterday, I was experimenting with mixing lip color from OCC Lip Tar. And wearing my fangs around the house, like you do.

The color is a mix of Tarred, Vintage, and Pageant.

Okay, back to kitten-proofing!

Due to a combination of a whole bunch of things, it was decided that I should visit PDX. So for this week, I am working REALLY remotely. As in, from [livejournal.com profile] cass404's couch. Whee!

Completely unrelatedly: since I don't read fashion magazines anymore (except for the annual Fall issue of Vogue that's roughly the same size as a phonebook), has there been some sort of fashion memo that dark cherry/plum lipsticks are back? Chanel may not be making Vamp anymore (the fools!), but Wet & Wild has "Cherry Crush", which is a dead ringer for it, and Sephora's version is "Crush". Which means, yay, I can stock up on my lipstick color!

(Yes, I have a small box in the 'fridge that I keep tubes of lipstick in. Look, when you have very specific requirements about lipstick colors, you learn to stockpile when those colors come briefly into fashion.)
Remember ages ago, when there was a rumor going around (that none of us ElderGoths could verify) that Chanel was going to discontinue Vamp lipstick? And how when I went and asked someone at the local Chanel counter, they scoffed and said "Oh, don't be silly. It's a classic color"?

Grrrr: Guess what's discontinued?

Even more grrr: after years and years of lipstick experimentation, I had just come to the final realization that yes, Vamp was pretty much my One True Lipstick Color. I have one tube left, and had been planning on purchasing a new one in the near future. Or asking Sandy Claws to bring me one.

I have been told (mostly by Makeup Alley) that Rouge Noir is the replacement for it. The only problem is that I have a tube of Rouge Noir (from when you could only get it imported from Europe), and it isn't Vamp. Vamp is the perfect pomegranate black cherry wine; Rouge Noir has brown undertones. (Which are great for some people, but not for me.)

So. Anyone have any tubes of Chanel Vamp they don't want? Let me know! Maybe we can work out a swap. I have lots and LOTS of other cosmetics and BPAL. Not to mention fabric, vintage trims, and ... stuff.
Hey ElderGoths! Remember the Dior Plastic Shine lip lacquers? I would kill to have those re-released. Okay, I would kill to have the "Memorable Violet" and "Outspoken Violet" re-released. "Memorable Violet" was as close to the perfect color as I had ever found. I'm assuming that even if I still *had* a tube of it, it's probably a little beyond the use-by date, drat it all.

(This post is prompted by this photo, btw.)
(EDITED TO ADD: for whatever reason, LJ times-stamped this really strangely. So I'm making it show up now.)

This morning involved exciting things like not being able to wake up AT ALL and sleeping for an extra half hour, tripping over cats, and sticking the mascara brush in my eye. Oh, and brewing a pot of tea, then remembering 15 minutes later that the cup of tea is sitting RIGHT THERE ON THE DESK, and maybe I should drink it and see if that helps with the lack of awake? Yeah, one of Those Sorts of mornings.

But! Today's outfit includes my glow-in-the-dark Skelly Docs, my new Medal for Heroic Tea Service (clicky-link!) (Mine, of course, is pink & black, not pink & grey.), and a jabot I made last night from a length of vintage crocheted lace. So those things make me happy.

Hey, I haven't wittered on about lipstick in a while, have I? A review of Lip Tar. )

Thank you for all the nice birthday wishes, everyone! They were very nice to read during my work day. My birthday finished up with dinner at Purple, which I adore. (I chose a "Sally Bowles" for my birthday cocktail, partially because I love St. Germain mixed with champagne, partially because I have a long history of people telling me I look like Liza Minnelli. I don't see it myself, but okay.) When we got home, the Stroppy One proved his devotion to me by agreeing to watch an episode from the True Blood S1 set he gave me instead of watching the new Star Trek movie. This is impressive because the Stroppy One is A Fan of Trek, and we've seen all of S1 True Blood. But I wanted to indulge in vampires, and he went along with it. Awww!

Today is a black lipstick day, just because. I'm wearing the MAC "midnight media" mattene lipstick over Urban Decay's "envious" lipliner, the combination of which gives me a deep black with cherry undertones. After reading the reviews of MAC's "black knight" creamsheen lipstick, I am not going to bother tracking down a tube. Instead, I will probably order a tube of NYX's black lipstick. Yes, I want more black lipstick. Embrace your gothy clichés, remember?

I started reading the new Morganville Vampires book (Fade Out) by Rachel Cain, and it's just as good as the rest of the series. Very minor spoiler )

I need to get back to editing documentation. But what I really want to do is toodle around the interwebs looking for Fluevog boots and browsing the Alchemy Gothic site for wildly over-the-top gothy accessories. But no. Focusing on the day job.

Again, thank you for the birthday wishes!

This past weekend was good, filled with seeing people and Getting Stuff Done. If only the Getting Stuff Done part had included more writing accomplished, but oh well. I managed to finish one of the things that needed writing, and am now just waiting for some final feedback. ::nudges [livejournal.com profile] jaborwhalky gently::

(Oh dear, the deadline for the next Steampunk Tales is Sunday. Whoops! Guess I know what just got put in the top slot of the writing priority queue!)

Part of the problem is that I have this huge and enticing stack of new-to-me books to read:

(Yes, most of them are vampire-type books. Don't try to act shocked, you're fooling no one.)

So of course I am distracted from writing! But I think I'm going to have to re-institute the rule of only reading during bath-time, otherwise I will never get all the writing done that I need to.

[livejournal.com profile] trystbat mentioned wearing one of the MAC black lipsticks over a deep fuchsia pink color, thus achieving a nice black cherry effect. "Ooooh!" said I, and promptly started rummaging in my makeup stash to see if I had a deep fuchsia lipliner. I don't have quite the color I want, but did achieve a similar effect with a pinky-red lipliner under Midnight Media. I'm very tempted to see if there are any MAC counters near me that still have Black Night in stock, so I can swap 6 empty containers for a new lipstick. And then find a good fuchsia lipliner from Wn'W or NYX Cosmetics.

Skirts! So, remember me burbling about the Raven skirt by Morrigan? (clicky-link!) I was lucky enough to get one in black and silver! It is stunning; the detail of the screen-printing is astonishingly delicate, and the skirt construction is very well done. I can't wait for her to announce her winter line.

Events!

THIS Saturday, October 17th, I will be signing from 2 - 5 PM at Comics Dungeon in Wallingford!

On Sunday, October 18th, I will be scampering around the Mourning Market. The plan is to do some filming to use in the next Gothic Charm School video, but my ulterior motive is to browse the dark and spooky wares for sale and support my friends who are vending there.

Now, onto the lipstick reviews! Reviews of MAC's black lipsticks and glosses. )
Now, I know a lot of people hold the opinion that black lip color is a babybat thing, and that Grown-Up Goths shouldn't go near it. Bah, I say. BAH. In my opinion, the key to being an ElderGoth and indulging in black lipstick is, just like with all things Goth-fashion related, to make sure YOU are wearing IT, and not the other way around. Don't go all-out with Spooky Dark Eye makeup AND black lipstick, it will make you look like you're trying too hard to present yourself as a Dark And Mysterious Creature Of The Night.

I've been wearing black lipstick paired with my usual eye makeup (ivory all over the lid, a burgundy/purple color lightly smudged at the outer corners and the crease, a pale shimmery pink in the center (MAC Mylar, Sketch, and Sweetlust, respectively), black liquid liner, and black mascara), and I think it looks great. So to all the other ElderGoths I say: it is time for us to take back the black lipstick from the Bad Gawfick Cliché file!

Well bother. I just received email about that job I interviewed for a few weeks ago. I didn't get it. I am trying to look at this as meaning there is something far better for me out there, and am mostly succeeding with that. Mostly.

Today is a day of answering a lot of email, packing up some more things from the Closet Culling sale that need to be mailed, schedule-wrangling, and possibly writing. Oh, and calling about a medical bill that should have been covered by my insurance, and I need to become Very Stern with some people about No, You Are Not Going To Send This To Collections, Let Me Explain In Great Detail From My Notes Of What You Said Last Time. Whee.

The weekend was mostly fun. Oooh, new makeup from MAC! Yes, I ended up with three different black-hued lip products, and I will be posting reviews of them soon-ish. Yes, I DO believe that black lipstick, if done well, is both appropriate and flattering on an ElderGoth. So there.
So, this scratchy feeling in my throat: allergies, or a looming cold? I'm hoping for allergies. But it made me realize that I need to go buy more Market Spice tea.

I am mostly a tea drinker. Don't get me wrong, I love well-made coffee. But the key part of that phrase is "well-made". Yes, I am something of a coffee snob. I don't like coffee that tastes burnt, I don't like overly acidic coffee, and I think lattes and mochas have too much milk in them. My ideal cup of coffee is a double-shot americano with a dollop of caramel sauce dissolved in it. Topped with real whipped cream. Needless to say, I don't manage to get my ideal coffee very often.

So I drink tea. I was raised drinking Market Spice tea, which is a black tea strongly flavored with orange and cinnamon. Currently, the teas I drink the most of come from Mighty Leaf (clicky-link!), which has glorious teas such as Pear Caramel Truffle and Chocolate Orange Truffle.

Lipstick. Yes, I went and purchased the Kat Von D lipstick in Homegirl. And it is indeed my Perfect Lipstick. I'm not kidding; it's that perfect dark pomegranate wine color I've been searching for for a couple of decades. Of course, the catch is that it was a limited edition color for (from what I can tell) the past holiday season. Argh.

So! If any of you reading this happen to have a tube of Kat Von D's lipstick in Homegirl that you don't want, let me know if you'd be interested in a trade. I have unopened boxes of limited edition MAC lipsticks in Queen's Sin, Bing, and Burnin' to offer. I also have a barely-used tube of MAC Hang Up (which would be sanitized before being sent off, of course), an entirely full jar of MAC glitter in a dark purple blue, and several other hardly-been-used MAC goodies that I have to go dig out.

---

Today involves job hunting (::sigh::), and doing the finishing work on the clothing sale document. Yes! The clothing sale will be posted this week!
Dear Cosmetic Companies,

You know what you should do? You should study the color of very ripe Bing cherries, and match it exactly in a lipstick. No, don't give it a brown undertone, don't make it lighter, and don't make it only available in a sheer formula. An opaque, satin-finish lipstick. That's all I'm asking for.

(Dear NARS Cosmetics, yes, I know that your "Chandernagor" matte lip stain is almost exactly what I'm talking about. Could you please make it available in the USA again? That would be great.)

Fondly,

Cupcake Goth
Quick, someone tell me that I don't need to look into custom-blending and making my own lipstick. As in, blending pigments to get the right pomegranate/black cherry color, adding them to a base of melted beeswax, and pouring them into lipstick tubes.

I don't have time for this hobby. I don't. Even if it did mean I could (after trial and error) have my perfect lipstick.

::backs away slowly from the interwebs::

In other news: Fine, I admit it. I bought samples of the Aromaleigh Twilight Supernatural Face & Body Powders. (clicky-link!) Remember, I like sparkly makeup. Plus, the whole idea was too funny to pass up. I'll post a review of them after I try them out.
I don't suppose any of you have a tube of the MAC lipstick "Verushka" that you're not using and needs a good home, do you? If you do, let me know and I'll see if (a) I have anything you might want to trade it for, or (b) what a reasonable price might be for it.

(Yes, [livejournal.com profile] melantha71, I looked on the MUA swap listings. One person has it, but it looks like I don't have anything she wants.)

And now, back to editing. And deciding if I want a second pot of tea.
