Of course you would!

Working from home means kitty lap time! And shockingly, today was one of those days when Vlad decided that he wanted to sit on my lap. (Vlad is very much the Stroppy One's kitten.)

This photo doesn't quite get across how ENORMOUS Vlad is. He and Erzabet are a year and a half old, and they're both bigger than Ruthven. Vlad is possibly bigger than Dread Beast was. He's a huge, muscular, THUMPY kitten. Who is probably not done growing, oh dear.

Miss Erzabet, from last week:

One year ago, we brought home two adorable teeny-tiny kittens.

They're still adorable. But SO not teeny-tiny anymore. Behold Vlad and Erzabet, who are ENORMOUS.

Y'know what I haven't posted here in a while? Kitten photos!

Well, I SAY "kittens", but really, even tho' they aren't quite 10 months old yet, both Vlad and Erzabet are almost the same size as Ruthven, who is 6 years old. Yes, we have enormous kittens.

Vlad likes helping the Stroppy One with the computer.

Whereas Erzabet just wants to snuggle with Knick and Knack.

Why yes, that is Ruthven, Vlad, and Erzabet all sitting on the couch together.

Ruthven and Vlad taking a nap!

Trinian, on the other hand, is Not Amused Even A Little Bit. To the point of growling freak-outs. So now she's on Xanax, as per our vet, and she's also wearing a kitty pheromone collar. Those two things seem to be making a big difference, thank goodness.

But Ruthven? Ruthven has other kitties to play scamper-around-the-house with. Ruthven has other kitties to warble at. Which is what we were hoping for.

Vlad and Erzabet have become even more snuggly than previously. Vlad's favorite thing to do is fall asleep on people. Erzabet will herd me to a chair so she can be petted. This makes me very, very happy.

In other news, paging all gothy makeup fiends: One of MAC's new fall limited edition lipsticks, "Prince Noir", is a dead-on duplicate of the long-discontinued Goth staple "Verushka". Now if they'd only make the color part of the permanent collection, dammit!

Yes, that is Ruthven sitting on the same couch with the babycats. He hissed a few times after he jumped up, but there was no real force behind it, just an expression of "I am not thrilled about this".

Trinian, on the other hand, will randomly hiss and grumble even when there aren't any other cats near her. And she seems to have forgotten that she's been living with Ruthven for six years and had pretty much accepted his existence. No, now she hisses and swipes at him and the kittens.

The kittens think everything is awesome. I have had to use the squirt bottle on Vlad for trying to drag off some of the toy monsters, and Erzabet hisses back at Ruthven whenever he gets grumpy, but otherwise, the kittens think the rest of the house is the best thing ever, omg.

I have a couch full of sleepy kitties! Yay!

WE HAVE ACHIEVED KITTENPOCALYPSE. Repeat: we have achieved kittenpocalypse. The kittens are in a state of OMG THIS PLACE IS HUGE. Trin has retreated to her spot on the ottoman, hissing when anything comes near. Ruthven has touched noses with both the kittens, but also keeps hissing and making unhappy noises. I'm pretty sure they'll all get over it.

We spent the weekend doing some renovation and organization of the basement. You see, Vlad and Erzabet are going to be released from the kitten room TODAY. Yes, they will finally get to explore the house, and meet the elder kitties!

But first we have to make the basement less of a chaos storage. Because while the elder kitties aren't particularly interested in investigating the various nooks and crannies, oh, the kittens will be. And I'd rather not have a kitten worm their way into a tiny hole, and then rampage around inside the walls.

I am exhausted. And I ache. Because I keep ... ignoring the fact that I have an illness that means I have less physical reserves than I expect. Look, I know it's dumb for me to do that, but I still think I'm capable of Doing All The Things, so finding out I'm not is maddening. My back feels like I've been beaten with rocks, I'm really tired, and yet I'm still pushing myself, because Things Must Be Done. (Go ahead, lecture me if it makes you feel better. I know I'm being dumb.)

But later this evening, kittens! Roaming the house! Yay! Tho' I suspect that Trinian's reaction is not going to to be "yay", but be more along the lines of "oh g-d not again i hate you people and kittens whyyyyyyyy". I'm hoping Ruthven will be a little more excited and happy about the kittens.

To sum up: Ow, ow, OW. But kittens!

EDIT: Kittenpocalypse has been postponed until TOMORROW. Because the choice was between getting All The Things done today and being too tired and exhausted to enjoy frolicking kittens, or being coherent and not crying from exhaustion. Plus tomorrow is the thirteenth, which in my worldview is a lucky day. KITTENPOCALYPSE TOMORROW!
I'm writing. Really. Writing, writing, writing.

With kittens.

Well, really we lost our hearts and our minds. Because we have adopted two 15-week old kittens, thus bringing our feline population to four. Which we swore we weren't going to do; nor were we looking for kittens, we wanted a slightly older kitty. But we met Vlad and Erzabet, and fell in love.

They are currently secluded in the kitty room in the basement. When they eventually are let into the rest of the house, we're hoping that Ruthven will realize he has playmates again, and that Trinian ... well, that Trinian won't be overly grumpy.

Here, have some kitten pictures! It's what the Internet is for!
