Hey ElderGoths! Remember the Dior Plastic Shine lip lacquers? I would kill to have those re-released. Okay, I would kill to have the "Memorable Violet" and "Outspoken Violet" re-released. "Memorable Violet" was as close to the perfect color as I had ever found. I'm assuming that even if I still *had* a tube of it, it's probably a little beyond the use-by date, drat it all.

(This post is prompted by this photo, btw.)

Revlon's "Va Va Violet" (which was originally intended to be LE but was so popular they added it to the regular line) is very, very close to the *color* in that photo. However, it goes on very sheer. Put it over a black liner, though...

Mac's Media - actually I think it's Cyber... color comes fairly close to that. Not quite as red...

L'Oreal used to make a color called "Chocolate Truffle," which I found almost as satisfactory. Used to layer a shiny gloss over it.

It was presented as a dark brown, but (on me, anyway) it was a delicious reddish-brown/black. So pretty. So discontinued now. (http://www.amazon.com/LOreal-Lipcolour-LipStick-CHOCOLATE-TRUFFLE/dp/B00498GFGM)

*sigh*

I used that too. It came out a more plum-y colour on me. How strange.

Only problem - that stuff was so sticky!

Oddly enough, there are a few Avon lipsticks that are pretty dark and pigmented. I forget the actual colors, but might be worth tracking down some mini samples.

Cherries Jubilee and Perfect Plum are two that spring to mind.

And that picture is SO pretty!

make a list, collect color samples. I'll see if things like nail polish or colored pencil will work as color samples. We'll see what we can do. You know what I'm talking about. If we can't do it, 3CC can (but they are pricey).

I know people are suggesting color dupes but there was nothing like Plastic Shine for opacity and SHINE. I still have a tube of Alluring Black that I cannot part with. Most amazing lip stuff ever.

Have you checked http://www.morganacryptoria.com/ ? It's closed until Black Friday, but I think it might be something of interest to you.
Here's the color chart and some swatches:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a swatch of Nightshade, which is what the pic reminded me of.

I would like to thank you for posting that link. I haven't worn lipstick in ages but those are lovely and make me want to buy and wear.

If you want dark pigments, have you tried looking for products made for people of color? I'm black and I've tried every mainstream lipstick in the darkest shades possible and they're always way too light on my skin. Black Radiance (link) has beautiful lipsticks that are both moisturizing and long-lasting. Midnight Glow (link) is my preferred shade. I usually just apply a layer of Cherry Chapstick to make it have a little shine. If it shows up the color of a red wine on my skin, it should be suitably dark on your skin. Black Radiance is sold at these locations (link); you should be able to find it fairly easily.

ETA: They also have Lip Glosses (link) which would add a shine.

Mac does a shine that you can put over the top of any lipstick that makes it look that wet. Also, there is a color that looks just like that made by Chanel. I'm at a loss for the name and my stick is so old that the name is rubbed off but it might be a place to go look...I think it was called fatale.

I found another stick of it in my makeup case. It's Chanel Vamp

I still have a tube of the Alluring Black, just for nostalgia purposes. I wouldn't even open it to smell it, at this point, but I am not throwing it away.
