I was in PDX over the weekend. The My Summer As A Goth peeps asked me to come down so I could talk to the cast about the goth subculture, give my feedback on some wardrobe choices, and to sit in on the first cast read-through of the script. It was a lot of fun, and I'm even more excited about the project. They're going to need gothy extras for some scenes, so if you're in the PDX area and that sounds interesting to you, keep an eye open. I'll be posting details as I have them.

Today I had just enough time before catching the BoltBus home to trundle over to Powell's, which was a very short walk from the hotel I was staying at. I showed amazing restraint, and only picked up three vintage paperbacks--two gothic romances (both from the "Buy it for the cover art!" rack, and one occult thriller. I looked for new-to-me vampire books, but nothing really grabbed my interest.

I visited the Rare Books Room, and sighed a little bit over the first edition of Fahrenheit 451, but not too much. That's not THE Bradbury book for me, so it was easier to just admire it and wander off.

(Someday, some glorious day, I will own a first edition of Something Wicked This Way Comes. I have promised myself this.)

Due to a combination of a whole bunch of things, it was decided that I should visit PDX. So for this week, I am working REALLY remotely. As in, from [livejournal.com profile] cass404's couch. Whee!

Completely unrelatedly: since I don't read fashion magazines anymore (except for the annual Fall issue of Vogue that's roughly the same size as a phonebook), has there been some sort of fashion memo that dark cherry/plum lipsticks are back? Chanel may not be making Vamp anymore (the fools!), but Wet & Wild has "Cherry Crush", which is a dead ringer for it, and Sephora's version is "Crush". Which means, yay, I can stock up on my lipstick color!

(Yes, I have a small box in the 'fridge that I keep tubes of lipstick in. Look, when you have very specific requirements about lipstick colors, you learn to stockpile when those colors come briefly into fashion.)
