Stuff I have done over the past few days. I'm writing it down because I have a terrible habit of thinking I haven't gotten anything done and ZOMG crisis!

If you really want to know, feel free to click )

Still to do for this week:

Somehow I thought this list would be shorter )
Aaauuuugh, hate job hunting. HATE.

Today, in addition to the job hunting, there are household chores, Dad coming over to visit and meet his newest furry grandkids, prepping a GCS post to go live tomorrow, and working on the Big Writing Project. Oh, and making stuff for Mourning Market.

I need to win the lottery.

However, Trinian and Ruthven are being affectionate big kitties, and Vlad and Erzabet are still incredibly cute and snuggly. So that's good.

How are you people? How was the weekend?
- I got home from PDX on Sunday night. I had a lovely time (as always, because [livejournal.com profile] cass404 is awesome like that), but it's also Very Nice to be home with the Stroppy One and our cats.

- Today's to-do list: dayjob, laundry, clear & organize the library table, set up a dye bath, overdye the new hair extensions, and get some writing done tonight. Of course, this all hinges on me having enough energy. Stupid collection of health issues.

(Oh wait, two other things on the to-do list: email my doctor with my weekly status, and read through the very helpful links about Lyme disease that [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd gave me!)

- So, the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW! BARBOSSA! MERMAIDS! BLACKBEARD! Look, I know that many people (and reviewers) had problems with the movie. Thought the plot was thin-to-nonexistent, felt the actors were phoning it in, blah blah blah, whatever. I spent the entire movie in a state of flaily-handed glee. It was a very fun romp, the mermaids were some of the best I've ever seen in movies (actually scary, wheee!), and I need more pirate-styled jackets and fancy tricorns NOW. Also, On Stranger Tides had one of the BEST cameos I've ever been surprised by. I made squeaky noises out loud at it.

- Finally, but most importantly: congratulations to my pseudo-sibling [livejournal.com profile] caliban1227 and Larisa, his lovely fiancee! I'm very happy for the two of you!
I'm incredibly tired, and have a huge To Do list* that is staring meaningfully at me. So no Mourning Market for me. But! All you other Seattle people should go! Shop, and take pictures! And post them! So I can live vicariously through you! (Here, have some more exclamation points!!!!)

*This To Do list may, just perhaps, include more clothing culling. Consider this a very vague advance warning.

So far, people's comments about this outfit have been either about the Mad Hatter, or steampunk. (I am very amused that steampunk is more recognizable to the average tech worker than Goth.)

Behind the cut, a photo of my stripy tights and Babycake boots. )

And behind this cut, a to-do list for me so I can remember to do this stuff over the next few evenings. )

A simple indulgence? Chocolate. Yes, I know, a stereotypical answer, but it's true. I currently have three bars of Theo Chocolates ginger & rose dark chocolate stockpiled, because I love it so and it's a seasonal offering. when I have a day job, I keep a bar of dark chocolate at my desk.

Would I consider giving it up permanently? Not for money. If absolutely dire health reasons were the reason, then yes. But for money, even oodles of it? No. Partially because I really like chocolate, partially because the chemicals in dark chocolate work really well on my biochemistry, and are actually very helpful in dealing with some of my bad brain days.

... now I want chocolate. And coffee. (Like that's a surprise.)

Today involves writing, taking pictures, and possibly starting a clothing alteration project I've been thinking about. The next ruffled skirt project is going to be from cream & pink striped fabric (well, sheets), and may also involve black velvet piping on the seams and hems of the ruffles. Maybe. Let's see if I want to work on something that fiddly. (But my goodness, it would be striking.)

Oh! And I have to email [livejournal.com profile] jaborwhalky. (Now that I've written it here, I will remember to do so, right?)
Today the Stroppy One and I are going to take advantage of the nice weather and ... garden. Keep in mind, neither of us LIKES gardening. But Audrey the Monster Rosebush needs pruning. Well, more than pruning, more like severe cutting back, so that is what we're going to do today. Wish us luck, and that Audrey doesn't demand too much of a blood sacrifice with thorns.

Do I want to do this? No. I want to finish up a skirt, cut out another skirt, take photos of the skirts and jackets I have to sell, and work on a Table of Contents outline. But the gardening cannot wait, alas.

I also want to go shopping. I want to go to T.J. Maxx, a thrift store (or two!), and Display and Costume Supply. I suspect none of those things will happen this week.

(I also want to win the lottery, a trip to England, and a trip to Disneyland. While I'm listing things I want, I might as well be thorough, right?)
Today I must:

- Do laundry.

- Take & post photos of the remaining Cranky bloomers that are for sale!

- Quickly find a good slow-cooker recipe for pork (for dinner tonight).

- Finish writing the Noxenlux Chapeau review and send it to beta readers. (Note to self: the review needs a bit more than "Yay hats! Pretty hats! Carlee is an evil, evil temptress".)

- Work up the outline for the proposal for the next GCS book. THANK YOU, all of you who helped brainstorm! It was very helpful. :)

- Take photos of some stuff, email [livejournal.com profile] requieminblack about a possible swap!

- Email the guy from the consulting firm with my LinkedIn profile.

IF there is time, but it will probably happen tomorrow:

- Finish the new pink/black/cream skull skirt.

- Rummage in the Storage Room and find the fabric to use for lining for the upcoming pink/cream striped skirt.

- Take photos of the skirts & jackets I culled from the wardrobe for selling.
It's 11:39AM, and I am still in my pjs.I've been out of bed for 39 minutes. Hello, unemployment!

Last night's sleep was ... fitful, I think that's the word I want. My brain was being a not-fun place as I was trying to get to sleep, and replaying things from my past that I didn't want to be revisiting, thanks. I have learned that in times like those, the best things I can do are concentrate on the sound of the Stroppy One breathing as he sleeps, and have [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny resting nose-to-nose with me. Both those things are very comforting.

---

Today involves chores (laundry, re-starting my unemployment claim, scheduling some appointments) and writing. Tonight involves sewing, as I need to get started on making and embroidering the various bloomers I'm going to be selling at Mourning Market in Feb. Yes, I will be offering some of the "Cranky" bloomers for sale! Along with books and art prints and little fuzzy heart brooches.

---

Speaking of selling, why I need to finish clearing/organizing the Storage Heap Room: I was rummaging around up there last night, searching for something in the part I hadn't gotten during the last clear-out. I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find a vintage 70s Gunne Sax calico dress, the box where all the safety pins I ever owned went to hide, a book I had forgotten I owned, and a pair of Olde Skool batcave gothy boots, all pointy toes and buckles. With hardly any scuffing on the toes! Since I already have a pair of Olde Skool batcave gothy boots, these newly-discovered ones will be going in the "Sell!" box.

  • Sent off some business-related GCS email.

  • Wrote the next GCS column and sent it off to the Finishing School of Flail.

  • Wrote 1,007 words on the fiction project I just started. Eeep!

Bathtime. Yes, bath and indulgent reading material are needed NOW.

Well bother. I just received email about that job I interviewed for a few weeks ago. I didn't get it. I am trying to look at this as meaning there is something far better for me out there, and am mostly succeeding with that. Mostly.

Today is a day of answering a lot of email, packing up some more things from the Closet Culling sale that need to be mailed, schedule-wrangling, and possibly writing. Oh, and calling about a medical bill that should have been covered by my insurance, and I need to become Very Stern with some people about No, You Are Not Going To Send This To Collections, Let Me Explain In Great Detail From My Notes Of What You Said Last Time. Whee.

The weekend was mostly fun. Oooh, new makeup from MAC! Yes, I ended up with three different black-hued lip products, and I will be posting reviews of them soon-ish. Yes, I DO believe that black lipstick, if done well, is both appropriate and flattering on an ElderGoth. So there.
Huh. With the exception of the signing at The Dreaming on Saturday (starts at 4PM! If you're in the Seattle-ish area, you should show up!), the Gothic Charm School book tour is ... done. Mind you, if some event somewhere contacts me and says "We'd love to have you as a guest, here let us cover your travel expenses!", then I will gleefully pack the giant suitcase and Go Forth. But as it stands now, the tour has wrapped up.

The book tour, as scramble-y and hectic as it was at times, was an amazing experience. Meeting people who like my work! Seeing friends, making new friends! Tea parties! Thank you to everyone who came to an event, and a HUGE thank you to everyone who put time and effort into helping make those events successful. The Flickr pool of book tour photos is here (clicky-link, of course), and if you have photos from any of the Gothic Charm School events, please add them there!

Now that the book tour is done, I will be focusing on writing new posts for Gothic Charm School, writing my blog for the Lip Service Webzine, working on the proposal for the next book project (eeek!), and oh right, job-hunting. (Anyone need an editor?)

Vampires. Right. We finished watching season 1 of True Blood last night. I enjoyed the show far more than I enjoyed the books. I am hoping that season 2 has more of a focus on the vampire side of the world, and less of Sookie being a twit. Yes, I would be quite happy to watch the Eric & Pam show, why do you ask? (I suspect that I'm going to be watching a double-feature of Near Dark and 30 Days of Night in the near future, because I can. I prefer my vampires to be menacing, not whiny.)

I also have a whole stack of new-to-me, possibly trashy, vampire books to read, thanks to the book tour stop at Powell's. Really, I do read other things besides paranormal genre fiction. I just really like paranormal genre fiction.

Today's To Do list: )

Aaaaand, coming soon to this LJ: hey, I haven't done any Shallow Fashion Details posts in a while, have I? I should. Oooh, and maybe a post of clicky-links of coveting! Everyone likes window-shopping, right? (Just nod in agreement here, folks.)
This is one of the emails that turned up in the Gothic Charm School inbox this morning:

It was recently brought to my attention by way of a post on one of my forums that
you will be holding a tea party in a cemetery to celebrate your book release.

I just wanted to say that I think this is highly disrespectful and tacky. And before
you judge me to be some uptight soccer mom who came across your site, let me tell
you that I am in your target audience. I am into both romantic goth style and spent
a good number of years this way and also and into lolita street fashion. Your book
is something that I would have picked up in a store to keep on my bookshelf/coffee
table and encouraged my friends to buy as well. However I don't think I will be
doing anything of the sort. I am saddened to see that you show such little respect
for the people of the cemetery.

Hmmm. I need to double-check some of my sources, but from what I remember, the big public/non-churchyard cemeteries were, to some extent, intended as large public parks. Or at least, they were certainly treated that way for a very long time. I am planning on answering her, but like I said, I need to check my sources and do some more research.

Behind the cut-tag, my to-do list. Not terribly exciting, I realize, but good heavens, I need one.

::siiiiiiiiigh:: Don'wanna. Would rather nap, and watch movies with the Stroppy One.
Which means a To Do List! Mostly as a note to myself, so it's under a cut-tag for easy skipping.

Stuff. And things! )
