Madonna is releasing a fashion collection with Macy's. Based on Material Girl. (clicky-link!)

On the one hand, say what now? Really? Does the world NEED another go-round of lace bike shorts under mini skirts?

On the other hand, the movie was silly fun, and oooh, remember THE BOOTS? (clicky-link! I coveted those boots like mad, even though I wouldn't have been able to walk more than three feet in them before falling over.

But I really am torn as to whether this is a sign of the apocalypse or not. What's next, a fashion line based on Pretty In Pink? That still would be better than the Grunge revival, though. That much I AM certain of.

I don't know, I kinda love it all. I mean, in a "love to hate it" kinda way. It beats the FUCK out of the fucking "leggings/tights worn as pants with your ass hanging out" look that everyone wears. That makes my eyes bleed.

I want those BOOTS.

Oh how I loved THE BOOTS!!! Given the chance, I would wear them today.

I do agree that a Pretty in Pink line would be FAR better than a Grunge revival. (The thing with Pretty in Pink was that Duckie was absolutely adorable)

There's been a 1983-86 revival going on for about two years now. (Last time I was at Bellevue Square, the "fashionable" teenagers were dressed like I was in high school.) This is just jumping on the bandwagon.

yes! Pretty in Pink at Target.

Maybe even a Strawberry Switchblade-inspired line. If only dots weren't already done to death.

I didn't know there was a licensed version back in the 80s of the movie boots. Have a fondness for that movie. :0 )

the bright side of this is:

crinolines as far as the eye can see. And while there will be silly things happening to mainstream folks for a bit, the thrift stores will soon be brimming with them.

I'm kinda shocked by the pictures - I can already buy that stuff. I've been able to buy that stuff for years. Crinolines, lace bike shorts, etc have been in the window at the American Apparel I pass on the way home for a while now. Except better looking. :/ I know it all has to be watered down because it's Macy's and all, but wow - really oddly boring stuff.

Sleazy. And that PVC jacket is making me sweat just looking at it. I also prefer the idea of a "Pretty In Pink" revival, and now I have the Psychedelic Furs song in my head.

On the one hand, say what now? Really? Does the world NEED another go-round of lace bike shorts under mini skirts?

At first, I was like "YES!". Then I remembered that anybody that would probably be wearing these would be too young for me to ogle let alone hit on, and my answer became "OK, I guess not." Then I walked to the store and ran across all the 70's looking hispters and am back to "YES!" because I would much rather have 80's looking hipsters than 70's looking hipsters walking around my neighborhood.

I kind of want the polka-dotted skirt. But maybe a little longer.

I've been awaiting Madonna nostalgia for years. I need wait no more!

Actually, yeah, I kinda think it does. Well, maybe it doesn't *need* it, but it seems to me it wouldn't hurt.

I like the skirt, too, but it doesn't exactly lend itself to going commando, does it?

I had been looking for a skirt like that (only slightly longer) for a long while. Then one day while going to the mall for a completely unrelated reason, I walked past Wet Seal. (I always walk PAST Wet Seal -- not my usual sort of store.) There it was in the window... attached to a hideous grey polyester bodice. I bought it immediately, cut off the bodice (fortunately it had a wide elastic waistband), and now it looks lovely. I call it my Evil Fairy Skirt.

Oh, I loved those boots - I didn't realise they were available back in the day. What about the pyramid jacket? Why won't they do one of those? *sobs*

Oh yes...THE BOOTS. Which of course I could never wear. I can barely teeter around in my Fleuvogs and they have sturdy heels on them.

Eeeck don't even *think* it. A "Pretty in Pink" fashion revival. I remember a reviewer saying Molly Ringwald looked like and 80-year old bird watcher in that movie. And she totally should have dated "Ducky" he had way better style and humor than that prep guy.

Sorry my age is showing again;) John Hughes movies get me going.

The whole Material Girl look put together would probably be too much, but I can definitely see pieces of that line being nice to have, mixed with less 80s stuff.

Why does that episode of "runway challenge" jump to my mind? That one in which one of the aspiring designers created a very cool-looking but also retro inspired style and nearly got thrown out because of it?! o____O;;
Anyways, not my kind of style and so I just shrug it off. If people want to dress up like that, I don't care. If it makes them happy. And I have something to laugh.
