I'm in the depths of one of my "find all the stripey blazers!" cycles. Why yes, you remember correctly: I DO have a bunch of stripey blazers already.

None of them fit me right now*.

::And now, the Body Image Demons, performing their timeless classic "QUUUUUEEEEEEEN OF THE WAAAAAALRUS PEOPLE!"::

I am taking steps (literally, heh) to fix that situation, but that doesn't change the fact that I want stripey blazers that fit me NOW. I am in the midst of tailoring one that was in the depths of the Storage Heap Room o' Doom, but let's be realistic about me, I need at least two stripey blazers: one black and white, one black and pink.

Finding black and white stripey blazers would be a lot simpler if I wasn't fervently, irrationally against horizontal stripes for myself. But every time I think about wearing a horizontally-striped blazer, the Body Image Demons get even louder. Which I didn't think was possible.

*Okay, that's not quite true. My striped frock coat from F+F still fits. But that's a smidge more formal than I want for my usual "leaving the house" fashion. The frock coat is for fancy events, not wandering around.
The StuntHusband's company party was downtown, and the club night we went to after was in a different part of downtown (ish). Heading back to the car after we left the party, we walked past a clot of 20-something "tough guys" who were loitering and smoking outside a convenience store. They went completely silent as we approached, and just as we were past them, one of them said, "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice".

I glanced over my shoulder, smirked, and said, Yes?" as we kept walking.

The Very Stripey Outfit I wore to go out last night was, in part, a trial run of my outfit for the Bats Day Swinging Wake evening. Wheee, gender-swap Beetlejuice! But I have some decisions to make:

Crazy Hair
Pro: In keeping with the character!
Con: Time-consuming. Time which I could be spending in Disneyland!

Giant Stripy Hat
Pro: So! Easy! Plus hatpins!
Con: Packing yet another giant hat. I'm already going to be packing one for daily wear at Disneyland.

No matter which I end up doing, I will be doing Beetlejuice-esque makeup. Because that is FUN. And the outfit will probably involve a high-collared (sleeveless!) white shirt and a black cravat, because if I'm doing gender-swapped Victorian Beetlejuice, I might as well go all the way, right?

[Poll #2011379]
Steamcon! Whooo, Steamcon. This year's theme was Victorian Monsters, which meant that many, many people were dressed up in ways I approved of. I was on a bunch of panels, had fleeting conversations with people I'm fond of, and emceed the tea party asylum event. Where I was mean and bitchy to everyone (as I had been told to do!), and then ultimately was wheeled out of the room strapped to a gurney, kicking and screaming the whole way. The League of S.T.E.A.M had been tracking a monster, burst into the room, and after investigating some suspects discovered that *I* was the monster they were looking for! It was ridiculously fun, and the people behind the League of S.T.E.A.M are sweethearts.

I DID go in costume on Saturday night! Stripy overdress and skirt by the Infamous BlueJay, makeup and hair done by me:

And now? Now I flop on the couch and reassure Miss Erzabet that I haven't abandoned her. Thank goodness I made sure to take tomorrow off of work.
But. Eeeee! Tiny crocheted Beetlejuice! I wants it!

Clicky-link! Beetlejuice! I am still making squeaky noises at the picture!

(I just discovered I don't have any Beetlejuice icons. How is this even possible?)

I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO LEARN ANOTHER HANDICRAFT HOBBY. I don't.
Looking at the various photos of the Monster High dolls (clicky-link!) over on [livejournal.com profile] daily_doll makes me want to spend a day playing with Lucretia Evangeline. She's got a new outfit she needs to show off, and there's been more conversations between her and Hellboy. Not to mention that Draculaura needs to be taken out of her box and introduced to Lucretia, and heaven only knows when Beetlejuice will decide to appear.

So yes. I want to play with my dolls.

::kicks feet, looks at writing project::

Maybe Sunday. If I hit my wordcount goal for Saturday.
Other stuff first: why had no one told me that Living Dead Dolls had done a Beetlejuice doll? (clicky-link!) C'mon, people! I discovered it thanks to Tumblr and Twitter, and the Amazon munchkins delivered mine today. I wonder what Lucretia Evangeline will think of him? (Probably be terribly confused.)

I am working from home again today (sleep issues, whee). One of life's simple pleasures? Brewing herbal tea containing catmint, and watching all three of the cats get Very Excited.

Shallow Fashion Pondering: I don't know what the other "fast fashion" mainstream stores (like Forever 21 and so on) are offering right now, but let me tell you: H+M and Target have set the Wayback Machine to 1984. Mini skirts with layers of drapey mesh ruffles, lace leggings, lace-trimmed bike shorts, little cropped jackets, oversized tunics (some in lace) to wear over leggings, necklaces that are tangles of costume pearls and chains ...

I'm not kidding. I looked around the offerings in the Target Misses/Juniors department, and spotted at least 3 items I wore regularly in 1984-85. Which means that all of those confused babybats writing to GCS asking where to find gothy clothing because their parents won't let them shop at Hot Topic? Just need some instruction on how to browse the racks and combine things.

(In fact, I'm idly thinking of creating a couple of Polyvore sets that are made up of items from basic mainstream stores, just to have some visual examples for the babybats. Hmmm ...)

The only problem with working from home and having Beetlejuice on in the background while editing technical documentation?

The nigh-overwhelming urge to start leaving comments in the docs that say "This thing reads like stereo instructions."
