Today was a day of feeling like utter crap. Fatigue, pain, general ick. So I spent most of it on the couch, watching movies and playing with the doll I was given for my birthday!

Photos under a cut, so people who don't like dolls can scroll on by )

I added pink streaks to her hair, made her an ankh necklace (this is why I keep random earrings that I've lost the mate to), and discovered that some of the clothes belonging to Lucretia Evangeline fit Mini Jilli. Now I need to start searching thrift stores for appropriately-sized furniture for her!

After a bit of research, it looks like clothing designed for MSD dolls will fit her fairly well. Something for me to keep in mind when I have spending money again!

The Stroppy One and a group of very nice people got me the limited edition Halloween Pru that looks eerily like me. I just need to add the pink to her hair. SHE HAS THE SAME NOSE AS ME.

I have a bunch of important stuff to do today, so of course I'd rather spend it playing with my new doll. Hi, I'm going to be 45 on Sunday, I'm totes a grown-up!

To everyone who helped the Stroppy One with this, thank you SO much!

I have been given an astonishing gift to start out the year. Meg Creelman (@MargretheRavn on Twitter) sent me a doll made by the incomparable Wendy Froud.

This is Little Sister:

She’s wonderful and I’m taking her presence in my life as a sign that 2012 is going to be a good year.
But. Eeeee! Tiny crocheted Beetlejuice! I wants it!

Clicky-link! Beetlejuice! I am still making squeaky noises at the picture!

(I just discovered I don't have any Beetlejuice icons. How is this even possible?)

I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO LEARN ANOTHER HANDICRAFT HOBBY. I don't.

Lucretia Evngeline shows the Attic Armoire to her young cousin. Draculaura is giddy at the sight of So. Many. Ruffles!

(Thank you again to everyone who helped surprise me with the Evangeline Ghastly doll in Christmas '09, and thank you to the Stroppy One and the Infamous BlueJay, who decided that Lucretia Evangeline really needed the armoire. Wheee, dolls!)

(I have a finally-starting-to-subsided sinus migraine. Playing with dolls was soothing.)
Looking at the various photos of the Monster High dolls (clicky-link!) over on [livejournal.com profile] daily_doll makes me want to spend a day playing with Lucretia Evangeline. She's got a new outfit she needs to show off, and there's been more conversations between her and Hellboy. Not to mention that Draculaura needs to be taken out of her box and introduced to Lucretia, and heaven only knows when Beetlejuice will decide to appear.

So yes. I want to play with my dolls.

::kicks feet, looks at writing project::

Maybe Sunday. If I hit my wordcount goal for Saturday.
Other stuff first: why had no one told me that Living Dead Dolls had done a Beetlejuice doll? (clicky-link!) C'mon, people! I discovered it thanks to Tumblr and Twitter, and the Amazon munchkins delivered mine today. I wonder what Lucretia Evangeline will think of him? (Probably be terribly confused.)

I am working from home again today (sleep issues, whee). One of life's simple pleasures? Brewing herbal tea containing catmint, and watching all three of the cats get Very Excited.

Shallow Fashion Pondering: I don't know what the other "fast fashion" mainstream stores (like Forever 21 and so on) are offering right now, but let me tell you: H+M and Target have set the Wayback Machine to 1984. Mini skirts with layers of drapey mesh ruffles, lace leggings, lace-trimmed bike shorts, little cropped jackets, oversized tunics (some in lace) to wear over leggings, necklaces that are tangles of costume pearls and chains ...

I'm not kidding. I looked around the offerings in the Target Misses/Juniors department, and spotted at least 3 items I wore regularly in 1984-85. Which means that all of those confused babybats writing to GCS asking where to find gothy clothing because their parents won't let them shop at Hot Topic? Just need some instruction on how to browse the racks and combine things.

(In fact, I'm idly thinking of creating a couple of Polyvore sets that are made up of items from basic mainstream stores, just to have some visual examples for the babybats. Hmmm ...)

Ahahahahaha. Have you met me? I traveled to another state to see two back-to-back My Chemical Romance concerts. I'm going to see Adam Lambert next week.

Mind you, I'm almost completely ignorant of mainstream music, just because I don't listen to the radio or watch whatever passes for "music video" channels any more. I learn about new music by friends going "Listen to this! Watch this video!" (Or in some cases "Watch this pretty ice skating boy do a routine to Lady GaGa!") But I think obscure bands becoming popular is a good thing, because that means the musicians can (maybe) start supporting themselves through their art.

Other stuff: Yes, I did get a Monster High Draculaura doll. She is sitting at home in her box, and I am waiting for the right time to introduce her to Lucretia Evangeline. Who may be slightly miffed about the new addition to the doll family, because HELLO, Lucretia is pining to become a vampire, and Draculaura already is one. I suspect Lucretia is going to be writing some angsty letters to G. (the Infamous BlueJay's vampire boy), while Hellboy shakes his head at her.

From Ye Olde Tumblr Feed: A current photo of Andrew Eldritch. Huh.
Mattel has started making dolls that are cute girl monsters. Monster High! (clicky-link to the Mattel site for them!)

They're ADORABLE. Let me direct your attention to Draculaura. (clicky-link!) She's a vampire. With long, straight black hair (with pink streaks!), who wears black and pink, carries a black and pink parasol, and has a pet bat.

::blinks a lot, then makes flailyhands of glee::

The Stroppy One, when I showed the Monster High dolls to him, agreed that they were very cute, but felt that the people who make the Bleeding Edge Goth dolls should feel a little ripped off. He's ... not wrong. (However, I think I like the face sculpt on the Monster High dolls better than the BE Goth dolls.)

To sum up: VAMPIRE DOLLY THAT IS DRESSED IN PINK AND BLACK AND COMES WITH A PARASOL. Ahem.

Yes, there will be SFD photos later today, if I can sweet-talk [livejournal.com profile] mauraanderson into wielding the iPhone camera for me.
Guess what I've spent all day doing?

Yes, playing with my new doll. I ... don't think the Stroppy One quite realized the level of crazy finally getting a gothy-goth doll of my own would unleash. You would think he would have realized this, considering [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny's presence in our lives, but no. He didn't.

(To be honest, [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny is not one for accumulating clothes. He likes getting new bow-ties occasionally, but would much rather have minions and a zombie army. Which means that the full strength of my "Oooooh, doll! Doll clothes and accessories!" madness might not have been easy to gauge.)

Come, join me in this mild insanity. Really, it's fun! )

I am giddy with delight over having Lucretia in my life. [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny is thrilled that there is a gothygirl that he is bigger than, and thus thinks that he'll be able to boss her around. That's going to be interesting to watch.

Now, back to finding more accessories for her. A real quote from our house today: "Ooooh! My mini glow-in-the-dark crow skull is the right size for her hands!"
I slept for almost 12 hours, and it was glorious. No so fun were the hallucinations when I got up to toddle off to the bathroom; from what I remember, the room was swaying, the dresser drawers were opening and closing while laughing, and my skirts kept flocking together and whispering above my head. This is what Ambien occasionally does to me. Thank goodness the Stroppy One made me close my eyes and walked me back to bed. Which I have only vague recollections of.

(I took the Ambien to make sure that I fell asleep. I have had too many experiences of being falling-over tired, and yet not being able to sleep. I didn't want to have the slightest risk of that last night, obviously.)

Job interview today! For a 3-month contract back at the Very Large Software Company. So, not the best possible thing ever, but hey, gainful employment sounds attractive. Very attractive.

Ooooh, dolls. Specifically, the Evangeline Ghastly doll from Wilde Imagination (yes yes, clicky-link!). I do not need that sort of hobby, I cannot afford that sort of hobby. But I occasionally go look at the website and stare at the pretty pretty doll and her astonishing wardrobe. And covet. Oh, the coveting.

(Okay, fine, I also send clicky-links of certain outfits to the Infamous BlueJay, asking if they can be made in Cupcake Goth -scale. What? That can't be a surprise to you.)

I like dolls, and doll miniatures. Really, if I were an independently wealthy eccentric (instead of a job-hunting eccentric), I would have a collection of pretty dolls and accessories, and yes, do photo stories with them. Because I am that sort of person.

(And from the other room, I can hear [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny clamoring about updating his journal, because [livejournal.com profile] marc17 took good photos of cute bunny, cute bunny must show them off! Yes, Clovis. Soon.)

Okay, off I go to make more tea, and start getting ready for the job interview. Must stop looking at photos of dolls.

[livejournal.com profile] maiaarts commissioned Devout Dolls to make a Jilli doll. I got to meet the mini-me over the weekend.

The mini-Jilli even has her own miniature [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny!
