!!!

( Aug. 14th, 2012 03:20 pm)
So, I'm on the front page of CNN Living ...

Kat Kinsman and Sarah LeTrent interviewed me about workplace dress codes. (The article was prompted by Bobak Ferdowsi's Mohawk.) Not only do they quote me pretty extensively, they used Goth at the Office photos to open the article!

My life is never, ever boring. Strange, but not boring.

There's a Russian language edition of the Gothic Charm School book! My first foreign language version!

::runs around squeaking::

This makes me ridiculously giddy. My editor has said that she is tracking down a couple of copies of the Russian edition for me.

(Now my publisher needs to get around to selling the language rights for Spanish, Japanese, and German ...)

Where My Goths At? - a blog post about growing up goth. On CNN.com. That name-checks me. ON CNN.COM, THAT NAME-CHECKS ME.

::hyperventilates a tiny bit::
Over on Facebook, I just found Gothic Charm School fanfic.

It's actually quite cute. (And G-rated, thank goodness.)

Does this mean I've hit the Big Time? I am so confused.

---

In other news, I feel awful. Aches, chills, fever. Dear [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, the KIB balm is VERY VERY GOOD for aches from the flu, thank you.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that the Stroppy One doesn't come down with this. And I am planning on being healthy by next Friday, because we have tickets for Wicked, and I AM NOT missing that.
I'm in the LJ Spotlight, eeeee! This is very exciting! They very kindly linked to the Gothic Charm School website in the blurb (thank you, LJ people!); if you take a look at my profile, there is a link to the Amazon.com page for the Gothic Charm School book.

So, here, have some pictures! The first one is the Chibi!Jilli sketch I purchased at Innocente Seraphim over the weekend. I LOVE chibi-style art, and have always wanted a chibi-style cartoon of myself. The second illustration is, yes indeed, one of the Lady of the Manners from Gothic Charm School. Two completely different styles, but both showing my cartoon-like nature. (Yes, people who have known me for ages, I've just accepted that you're right, I am a cartoon. Which means I eventually get my own theme park, right?)

"Best Advice From a Goth
Jillian Venters
Good manners and funereal attire aren't incompatible at all. Nor are the extreme use of eyeliner and working at Starbucks. But Goths can be misunderstood by friends and family and in the workplace. That's where blogger and advice maven Jillian Venters steps in."

I'm ... agog. And flattered. Thank you!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix and Keenan (quick, someone, give me Keenan's LJ name, 'cos I need to add him anyway!), I ... I signed someone's chest last night.

Yes, someone had me sign their chest Yes, someone had me sign their chest

It says "Stay Spooky!" and my name. And YES, we made [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage sign Keenan's chest, too.

I signed someone's chest! This totally makes me a rock star, right?

The book release party was FANTASTIC. I ... seriously, I'm still a bit overwhelmed and touched at how many of you showed up to cheer me on (and occasionally ask odd questions). Thank you so much! And the presents! You guys! Flowers and cupcakes and Sepiachord goodies and CDs and body butter!

I feel so incredibly lucky. Thank you, all of you.

OH MY GOODNESS YOU PEOPLES! TODAY! BOOK RELEASE TODAY!

Unsurprisingly, I am rather giddy. (Please notice the deliberate understatement in that sentence. To be honest, I suspect that any minute now I'm going to put on MCR's cover of "Astro Zombies" and dance around the house with [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny.)

So! Are you in the Seattle area? Then I would love to see you at the Gothic Charm School release party tonight!

The list of people I want to thank for helping me reach this day is HUGE. Really, really huge. So instead of rattling off names and worrying that I'm going to forget someone because I haven't had a second pot of tea, I'm just going to say a very fervent and heartfelt

Thank you very much

to all of you. You know who you are. You'd better. And if you're not sure if you're included in that fervent and heartfelt thank you ... you are. :)

Book! Eeeee!
Thanks to the very kind [livejournal.com profile] jaborwhalky for pointing this out to me:

Hey guess what?! The interview is already on line!

... I'm gonna go watch Nightmare Before Christmas and let my brain stop geebling. Yes, that sounds like a good plan.

They called me a "goth legend". Say what now?

After all, the Stroppy One chuckled when they called me a "goth queen"; you would think they might have figured out that the term was a little much.

Still freaking out slightly. But look, they gave [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny a nice close-up!

Three minutes until ....

um, um , um um

I just got mentioned on the news, as a lead-in to the show that is on in less than three minutes.

Freaking out! Why yes! Thank you!

So, crawl out of bed late late late (tho' I slept well last night), and discover that NEIL GAIMAN HAS TWITTERED ABOUT ME. About Gothic Charm School!

::insert squeaking and flailing here::

I ... words fail. Words gone. NEIL GAIMAN!

I'm going to be giddy about this all day. Hell, all weekend! Perhaps for the rest of my life!

Wall! Of! Skirts! Wall! Of! Skirts!

That's just the collection of the everyday, wear-to-work sorts of skirts. The Wall! Of! Blouses! and the Wall! Of! Dresses! are hidden behind the skirts.

Which means that except for a couple of Lip Service items I have pre-ordered, and a couple of items I am planning on commissioning, I think I don't need to go clothes shopping for a while. No, not even browsing thrift stores.

(I say this without having even tried to re-organize the wardrobe full of jackets. But I'm pretty certain that tackling that won't cause me to suddenly say "Oh noes! I don't have enough jackets! I have nothing to wear!" If I DO say that, someone come over and sedate me or something, 'kay?)

(When I said this to [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, he claimed that I must have been replaced by a pod person, and started backing out of the room.)
[livejournal.com profile] maiaarts mentioned this to me, and now I'm busy flailing EVEN MORE.

OH MY GOD, I'M LISTED ON AMAZON.COM. I'LL STOP FLAILING AND FREAKING OUT SOON, RIGHT?

P.S. I finally gave in and signed up for Twitter. Why yes, my user name is CupcakeGoth. (And those of you who are snickering about *what* might have finally prompted me to sign up for Twitter, just hush.)
