Sure, my subconscious decided to give me a slightly unsettling dream last night, but that was easy to shake off. Today is much, MUCH better!

- I finished the first draft of my next story for Steampunk Tales Magazine last night and sent it off to the beta readers!

- The weather is cool and cloudy!

- I'm wearing a really cute ruffled military jacket that my Mom (hi [livejournal.com profile] cupcakegothmom!) helped me get. (Coupons and discounts = good.)

- The next book in the Parasol Protectorate series comes out next week!

- The tools at work are no longer thwarting me!

- Did I mention the weather? Cool? Overcast? Positively autumnal? Mmmm.

So! Thank you for yesterday's pix of baby bats and bunnies, entertaining clicky-links, and comments. They did help improve my mood. I hope that all of you are having a good day, too.

- The weather spirits have reverted back to MY type of weather, ohthankgoodness. Sorry, sun worshippers.

- Today is a work at home day for me, because I needed to go see my chiropractor. He made the base of my neck make a horrible noise, and now my lingering headache has gone away!

- Because today is a work at home day, and the weather is back to my preferences, I may take a break later this afternoon to walk down to the park and play on the swings.

- I now have a lovely white linen frock coat-y type blazer, and am trying to decide if I want to somehow turn it into a very, very pale cream or ivory.

Whooo, tired. This is the first time in a while that the concept of "Friday! Weekend!" has been really important to me. Ah, the things we get used to when we don't have a day job. So, we had WEATHER last night. House-shaking, I wonder if the collection of tea cups are going to rattle right off of the shelves WEATHER. It was amazing! The cats were Not Amused At ALL, but the Stroppy One and me stared out the windows in rapt astonishment.

I have a new guilty pleasure TV show. Oh Vampire Diaries, I didn't expect you to end up being vaguely good and entertaining. But the show already has a more entertaining and complex plot than the books (yes, I've read them, this surprises you how, exactly?), and ... okay, I'll admit it: add a snarky, mostly evil, just wants to eat people and be a vampire -sort of vampire character, and I am enraptured. Which is not bad going for a show where for the first three episodes, I firmly believed that the best performance was being turned in by the fog machine.

SFD photo! I don't know if I'm going to continue posting daily outfit photos, because I don't want to turn into a picspam posting, attention-craving bad internet cliché. (Yes, I worry about these things.) But it has been fun documenting my outfits this week! I couldn't get a good photo of the back of the skirt, but the back panel is layered in 3 tiers of 9" wide ruffles, for extra fluff and bustle-y-ness. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. p>

And now, more tea, and on to the work project that just got handed to me.
Oh, the weather is GLORIOUS. Cool and cloudy, with occasional patters of rain. If I was well, I would go out for a long walk. Alas, that is SO not going to happen. Cue the sulking!

Actually, don't cue the sulking, as I'm trying not to give into ennui. My hope is that today I feel clear-headed enough to, oh, get some writing done! I have a couple of GCS columns I want to write, and oh yeah, the polishing of the sample chapter and outline writing for the fiction book to send to my agent.

My other hope is that I am able to post the Closet Culling Sale later this week. I think it's pretty likely, and yes, I will give folks a day's warning before the giant post goes live.
Of Maintaining Your Gothy Nature And Creativity In Spite Of Ill Health. Please spread the word that there's a new post!

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, the Stroppy One, and the Finishing School of Flail, who are all wonderful beta readers. I would be lost without them.

Hey! Last night I was interviewed on Glass of Win on BlogTalk Radio! (clicky-link!) Rachel was a delight to talk to, and I had a lot of fun. The clicky-link is to the download of the show.

Oh, the weather. Right now it is overcast and cool, and I am SO HAPPY about it. I would be gleeful if the weather stayed like this, and we didn't suffer any more glaringly bright, hot days. Why yes, I am a native Seattle-ite, why do you ask?

Today I am meeting a photographer friend for socializing, cupcakes, and plotting of projects, yay! I may post a Shallow Fashion Details post about whatever today's outfit ends up being. Granny boots with pink laces? Black velvet waistcoat with pink satin buttons? Yes, I think those things may be involved.

The office I am being moved into was already empty. I took advantage of that fact and put some of my posters up in the new space already.

[livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage stuck around my office today to help me pack, and then drove me home. So now I am working from home (until next week, whoo!), and am contemplating making myself some tea and a piece of raisin pecan toast with Brie.

In other news: WEATHER! It was snowing at work when we left (but not sticking), and it's snowing here at home (but not sticking). Dear Snow Demons, I didn't invite you back. Shoo. And take these flickering beginnings of a sinus migraine with you, thanks.

You know what the best part about working from home is? Besides the being with the Stroppy One and the kitties? That I will get to sleep in. Mmmmm, sleeping in.

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the Sixth:

- Getting to see [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson.

- Finishing the new GCS lesson. (It'll be posted tomorrow.)

- Yummy shepherds' pie for dinner.

- Having a very large black cat snoozing on my feet.

---

In Other News: I am planning on working from home on Wednesday, because the "severe weather warning" that the Puget Sound is under equals "Surprise! Your corporate bus may not be running!" I would rather work from home and, y'know, be productive instead of play commute roulette and possibly be stuck with a 2+ hour trip home.

- What I should do tonight is write. Instead, I suspect I am going to try out the new sewing machine, and play the rummage in the closets game. And do all the prep for lamb stew to cook tomorrow in the new crock pot.

- Oh yeah, new crock pot! My parents gave me a shiny new crock pot for my birthday. I need recipes. Because I have only ever used a crock pot for ... making stew. So please give me suggestions.

- Dear Weather Gods: NO SNOW in the lowlands, thanks. Preferably no icy roads, either, because I've got Stuff To Do all weekend. But NO SNOW. I cannot possibly stress this enough.

- It is freezing in my office right now. I'm on my third pot of herbal tea, all in an attempt to stay warm. Dear Self: bring one of the capelets to work tomorrow and leave it at work for the rest of winter.

- Dear Self: you do not need more little velvet or faux-fur capelets. Really, you don't. Stop browsing eBay for them.
Firstly, I won't be at Club V tomorrow night. My usual club companion is away on vacation, and I really should use the extra time for writing. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] djeternaldarkne!

Secondly, the weather. Oh, the glorious weather. I'm wearing tights and boots! I brought my velvet capelet with me, in case the bus ride home is chilly! I'm going to make soup for dinner! It's supposed to stay like this for almost a week!

(Yes, all those exclamation points were absolutely necessary. Autumn is my favorite season, and I have been LONGING for it to properly arrive.)

Thirdly, the shameless self-promotion part. I'm in the Oct/Nov issue of BUST magazine. Y'know how they always have a page featuring someone and their personal style? I'm that person for this issue.

::runs around flailing excitedly::

If you go to the BUST site, there's a feature that lets you preview the issue.
http://www.bust.com/Magazine/On-Newsstands-Now.html - I'm on page 31. Now I just need to get my mitts on an actual copy of the magazine ...
Am I craving coffee enough that I'm willing to settle for the somewhat mediocre coffee available at the coffee stand in the cafeteria? Or will I sigh and have a pot of (very tasty, but not what I'm craving) tea? Why is there not a coffee shop within walking distance of my office? I realize that Redmond is not quite up to Seattle's coffee shop on every corner level of insanity, but still. Vexing, that's what it is. Very vexing.

I would like to extend my condolences to those of you who were hoping for more summer weather. My walk from the bus stop to my building this morning included red and orange fallen leaves swirling around. Which made me incredibly happy, but probably depressed the Orb-worshipers around here.

Weather like this makes me want to start my yearly re-reading of Something Wicked This Way Comes early. But no, I will wait until the Proper Time, which is October.
The weather continues to be lovely. Cool, cloudy, and occasional rain. Weather that allows me to wear tights! And jackets! Yes, I know, there are swarms of you sulking because The Orb went away, but I am enjoying this weather while it's around.

---

I have a nigh-overwhelming craving for a really good iced Americano and some sort of starchy sweet thing. So really, I am craving an iced Americano and a pan au chocolat from Cafe Besalu. Which is nowhere near my office; as in, other side of the lake nowhere near. Dammit.

(No, going to the coffee stand at work is not even remotely a good substitute. The coffee at work is okay if you absolutely need a hit of caffeine and aren't too fussy about the taste.)

::holds up GothCard for a cliché stamp:: What is one of the only apps I have purchased from the iPhone app store? No, not any of the ones that make wacky noises, but the eBook of Dracula. Because having a copy of Dracula with me at all times makes me happy.

---

SFDs! I'll try and take a photo tonight, because there was no time this morning.Behind a cut-tag as always ... )

Coming soon to this LJ, if I have the time: makeup reviews (China Glaze "Lubu Heels" nail polish, MAC "Bing" lipstick from the Cult of Cherry set), and a couple of YA book reviews (Generation Dead by Daniel Waters, and Vamps by Nancy A. Collins. A brief tangent: NANCY A. COLLINS IS WRITING YA, WHAT? I am confused.)

---

Wow, I really want good coffee. ::sigh::

I'm working from home today. I just wandered into the back yard and picked a heaping bowl of blackberries. Yes, in the rain.

Ohhhhh, cool and overcast and possibly rainy. Could the weather stay like this through Thursday evening, please? You people can have the orb back for the weekend, I promise. I just want proper weather until then. Really, I have a reason other than "Yay gloom!".

To celebrate proper weather, I am wearing my beloved Cavalli jacket from H&M. The one that [livejournal.com profile] e_juliana braved the crowds for to snag for me, the one that looks like it came straight from Adam Ant's closet. No, I didn't manage to get a photo taken this morning, because I was running a bit late.

... I don't really have anything interesting or clever to post at the moment. I just wanted to post Yay weather! So, what's up with you people?

Dear Powers That Be,

The cool and cloudy weather right now is lovely, and much appreciated. I'm sure you'll be setting the weather controls back to the blazing orb setting soon, but I'm very grateful for any amount of delicious gloom you care to bestow upon Seattle.

Also, I know I keep saying that I'm going to do another round of clearing/organizing/excavating on the Storage Heap Room o' Dooooom, but it's a little difficult to find the motivation to do so when clothing seems to manifest out of thin air. I have very vague memories of seeing that Victorian-ish jacket before, so perhaps the Storage Heap Room o' Dooooom isn't magically creating new clothing for me out of the random piles of fabric. But it does makes a better story that way.

Oof, I am tired. I really shouldn't be (well, except for the fact that my body clock is still a bit wonky from traveling last week, and the weekend was packed with wheeeeeeee socializing!), but I feel like I'm about to nod off over my cup of tea.

---

Huh, weather. Look, I know that it needs to be sunny and warm for the sake of the plants, because if it isn't, then [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix and [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre are not going to be able to make as much jam (yes, that is how [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre put it to me), but I've got to say, I like the overcast, the rain, and the general gloom. Go ahead, sigh exasperatedly at me and shake your head. I'm used to it.

---

In between editing topics, I'm browsing Etsy for shiny things. YES, I know I shouldn't, because heaven knows I don't REALLY need any more clothes. But stripey Victorian-esque shrugs! Stripey collars! Reversible stripey collars! Black velvet and feather capelets! Skull-festooned top hats! (Hi Carlee!)

(Yes, all of those were clicky-links, and my goodness could I have used more exclamation points if I tried? Well probably, but I won't for the sake of everyone's sanity. Just imagine the flailing hands and squeaks of glee, okay?)

Dear Self, you do not really have time to play rummage through all the wardrobes and create new outfits. No you do not. In your free time you MUST WRITE. You need to write a new column, not to mention the rest of the other writing. When you are not writing, you should be working on stuff for the Punk Rock Flea Market. Which means no extended wardrobe remix games.

The lights have been flickering, which means I've made sure there are candles (and matches or lighters next to them!) scattered throughout the house, Just In Case.

Not quite as entertaining is the notion that I'm working from home tomorrow, because we need to wait for the contractor who is going to repair the leak in our roof (!!!) to turn up. I did not ask for a leaky roof. I very specifically asked for, oh, a teleportation device. Or a pink furry handbag. Not a leaky roof.

Anyway, any and all wishes for a quick and inexpensive fix to the roof problem will be gratefully accepted.
