I sent off my story for Steampunk Tales vol. 3 yesterday, before the deadline, whoo! And then spent the rest of the day dinking around the interwebs and reading a vampire novel. (A Dance In Blood Velvet by Freda Warrington, which I had been trying to find for years. It was very good.)

Today is a day of hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre (who is working at home today) and her daughter, my niece-by-proxy Princess Tickybox. I have vague hopes of making it to Artwalk tonight, but that depends on Stuff.

Hanging out with people will be good, because this morning was kind of meh so far, for various reasons. Including the fact that the job hunt is still stuck in the nothing happening stage, booo. So to perk myself up, I am drinking a(nother) pot of Pear Caramel Truffle tea, playing with makeup, and have set Renfield the iPod shuffling through all of the MCR in the library. At a very loud volume. Oh look, it's time to go sing along with "Cemetery Drive"!
There may be SFD photos later. But for now, the eyeliner calls to me.

- What I should do tonight is write. Instead, I suspect I am going to try out the new sewing machine, and play the rummage in the closets game. And do all the prep for lamb stew to cook tomorrow in the new crock pot.

- Oh yeah, new crock pot! My parents gave me a shiny new crock pot for my birthday. I need recipes. Because I have only ever used a crock pot for ... making stew. So please give me suggestions.

- Dear Weather Gods: NO SNOW in the lowlands, thanks. Preferably no icy roads, either, because I've got Stuff To Do all weekend. But NO SNOW. I cannot possibly stress this enough.

- It is freezing in my office right now. I'm on my third pot of herbal tea, all in an attempt to stay warm. Dear Self: bring one of the capelets to work tomorrow and leave it at work for the rest of winter.

- Dear Self: you do not need more little velvet or faux-fur capelets. Really, you don't. Stop browsing eBay for them.
Am I craving coffee enough that I'm willing to settle for the somewhat mediocre coffee available at the coffee stand in the cafeteria? Or will I sigh and have a pot of (very tasty, but not what I'm craving) tea? Why is there not a coffee shop within walking distance of my office? I realize that Redmond is not quite up to Seattle's coffee shop on every corner level of insanity, but still. Vexing, that's what it is. Very vexing.

I would like to extend my condolences to those of you who were hoping for more summer weather. My walk from the bus stop to my building this morning included red and orange fallen leaves swirling around. Which made me incredibly happy, but probably depressed the Orb-worshipers around here.

Weather like this makes me want to start my yearly re-reading of Something Wicked This Way Comes early. But no, I will wait until the Proper Time, which is October.
I would say that I'm doing my best impression of a zombie editor for no reason, but there is a reason: PMS. Ahh, the joys of being female. Last night was the irrationally cranky (which I soothed with hair dye, Sweeney Todd, and trashy vampire novels); today is the oh god I want more sleep stage.

Which is a problem, really, because I have meetings to go to AND I start learning how to do stuff using Visual Basic 2008. Considering I have only a vague knowledge of programming, this should be ... interesting. Yes, I think that's the word I want to use here. All of you people with actual programming knowledge, pray for me. Or point and laugh, which I'm sure some of you are doing right now.

Coming Soon to This Journal: a post about new makeup (shakes tiny fist at [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps), dithering about clothing choices for C13, and possibly some thoughts and reflections about the ever-growing trend of "cute" skull accessories. Thoughts and reflections other than my usual reaction of "Oooh, shiny! Wanty!", because I actually have been thinking about this stuff from a cultural statement viewpoint. You know, meta thinky-things, not just the magpie reaction.

So yeah. Coming Soon, I swear.
