When real things happen to imaginary people

Whoops, I didn't post any Things That Make Me Happy for a few days. Because I wasn't online much, not because I was dreadfully unhappy or anything.

Happy-making things:

- The movie Coraline.

- Chocolate martinis from the Dilettante.

- Spiced hazelnut/almond butter.

- Black/silver holographic glitter nail polish. (Thanks, minim_calibre!)

- Sleeping in.

- New corsets!

- Friends calling to come hang out.

- Going out dancing.

In other news, I'm packing up my office for the Giant Office Move that is happening in my org. I loathe packing. The office move has also made me realize that I need some sort of drawing of a chibi/cartoon-y version of me^*, wearing headphones, with a note that says "Knock loudly, I'm listening to music". Because I always keep my office door closed and I have headphones on, so if someone is shy about knocking, I don't know they're there.



^*Don't think that you people giggling and muttering "So, exactly the same as you usually look?" has escaped my notice. I keep telling you I am not entirely a cartoon character, but people never believe me ...

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the Third:

- "Oasis" by Amanda Palmer.

- The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Cain. (I just read the most recent book last night, and I want the next book in the series RIGHT NOW PLEASE, I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT UNTIL JUNE.)

- Pop Chips, which are crunchy snack food made from potato slices that are air-popped. Very tasty.

- That even tho' I've been somewhat, er, lax about exercising, all of my jackets and skirts seem to be getting looser-fitting.

Thing That Makes Me Happy, But Also Slightly Vexed:

I have a new-to-me (hand-me-down) tablet PC for work. Yay! Now if I could just figure out why I'm having problems connecting to any intranet sites ...

It's been a kind of mumph-ish couple of weeks for myself and many people I'm fond of. (Actually, for some of you, "mumph-ish" is a HUGE understatement.) So! Remember that "8 days of things that make you happy" meme-thingamie that went around LJ over the holidays? Yeah, I'm resurrecting it. Because it sounds like a REALLY good idea. I'm not going to tag anyone, and you don't have to participate if you don't want to, but I know that it will be good for my mood.

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the First:

- I am wearing the military jacket that mineke made for me out of black wool & dark pink skull brocade. I don't wear this jacket nearly enough, considering how much I love it. (There may be a camera-phone SFD photo later. Maybe.)

- Hey, Coraline comes out this week! I love the book, and I've been looking forward to the movie for aaaaaages.

- I spent yesterday in the company of wonderful people, eating very tasty food.

- The new video for MCR's cover of "Desolation Row" makes me flail my hands and grin.

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the Seventh:

- Posting a new Gothic Charm School lesson, and getting lots of good feedback about it.

- Working from home, even if the predicted Snowpocalypse didn't happen.

- Reading a trashy tell-all rock autobiography. (Motley Crue's The Dirt, if you were wondering. Trashy doesn't even begin to cover it.)

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the Fifth:

- Being able to work from home, which means I can spend my day editing while having a snuggly cat on my lap.

- Hot cocoa with rose marshmallows.

- A package from a secret santa!

- How amazingly quiet the Elna sewing machine is.

Things That Make Me Happy, Day the Third:

- Walking around all bundled up when the weather is freezing, and stopping for a cup of hot cocoa.

- Baking gingerbread bats.

- Our Christmas tree.

Hey, that meme-thingamie where people post for 8 days about things that make them happy? I should do that. My mood is not the best it could be right now (for a variety of small, really not important reasons), so I should fix that by focusing on things that make me happy. Yes.

So! Things That Make Me Happy, Day the First:

- I'm going to see Amanda Palmer tonight!

- I am wearing super-cute new shoes (pointy-toe b&w striped flats) that I had ordered a while ago.

- The chilly weather means I can dig out all my faux-fur stoles, collars, and capelets.

- I'm thinking about making rose-flavored marshmallows this weekend, if time permits.
