- Stroppy One: still sickly. And it has been pointed out to me that my continuing exhaustion, wooziness, and occasional chest-rattling cough might be, oh, signs of walking pneumonia. YES, I am making an appointment with my doctor.

- Work got busy. Argh!

- OH MY GOD I AM SO BEHIND ON WRITING.

What better time to ask for book requests? I am craving vaguely Victorian-ish AU or paranormal stuff. The books I find myself thinking of re-reading right now are [livejournal.com profile] gailcarriager's Parasol Protectorate series, Kim Newman's splendid Anno Dracula, or Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy. (I also love the Sorcery and Cecila books by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, and the College of Magic books by Caroline Stevermer.)

So! Victorian-ish paranormal books. Any suggestions?

I'm at work today. You see, I haven't been on this particular contract long enough to qualify for holiday pay. As a consequence, I will not be paid for yesterday's holiday, and I have to be in the office editing today. None of the full-time employees are here, and there's only one other person in the contractor bay where I am. The office is a ghost town, and makes me imagine horror movie scenarios for the empty hallways.

The muscle tension migraine + sinus headache I was battling yesterday is trying to come back today. Since I woke up this morning, I've taken an Advil Cold & Sinus capsule, had breakfast, two pots of tea, and a handful of almonds. All of that has merely blunted the edges of the migraine, so I have broken out the heavy-duty stuff: my last hoarded Feminax tablet from the UK. (From when their formula was paracetamol, codeine, and caffeine.) I am going to be fuzzy, but VERY AWAKE. And pain-free, I hope.

All of this means that I am quite pleased that I am wearing CrankyBloomers under my petticoats today. They're very appropriate.

I hope all of you are having a good day. For those of you that work retail, my sympathies, I hope you survive the Black Friday sales, and that you didn't give in to the urge to start screaming at customers. (Why yes, I worked retail in the past. There's a REASON my primary stress nightmare is about finding myself in a store and hearing "Jillian, cashier please" echo across the speakers.)

Whoo, not feeling very awake AT ALL.

Thank you for the compliments on yesterday's skirt! It's a replica I made of an skirt by Angelic Pretty. I also made the skirt I am wearing today, and the skirt I'm contemplating wearing tomorrow is also one I made. Huh, I guess I should stop saying I don't sew much.

In conclusion, here, have a Shallow Fashion Details photo. Ah, camera phones.

This is my current "work environment":

Laptop, notebook and pink fountain pen, [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny, bat-shaped basket full of ribbons and sewing supplies. Not pictured: The Lost Boys playing in the background, and Trinian Queen Of Fuzzwumpia trying to decide if she wants to jump up on my feet. (She did after I took the photo.)

My team have apparently reached that point where they realize "Hey! We've got a Goth on the team! Finally, someone to give those random Halloween things to so they stop cluttering up my house!"

Yesterday, my boss gave me a hanging candle holder in the shape of a flying bat. Today, I walked into my office to discover a quite charming vampire teddy bear sitting on my desk. I have no idea who left him for me, but he makes a nice addition to the tribe of monsters that live in my office.
My birthday weekend was lovely, and thank you to everyone who wished me a happy one! 39 feels no different than 38. For that matter, 39 really feels no different than, say, 30 did. The weekend involved going out to dinner with my parents, and a fancy tea party. [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, because he is a wonderful and indulgent spouse, surprised me with the mini tricorn from Topsy Turvy Design that I have been coveting for many many months. Let me tell you, that hat is a showpiece of quality construction. Absolutely beautiful, and I can't wait to wear it!

Jacket geebling! My H&M Cavalli jacket arrived this weekend, and my goodness, is it pretty. And it fits me! (I suspect this means that the Powers That Be behind this line went for a touch of vanity sizing, because I *know* I am not actually a size 10, but I'm not complaining.) Since the jacket does fit me through the bust & waist, all I need to do are the minor tweaks I have to perform on every jacket I ever own (adding back vents so it doesn't bunch awkwardly over my petticoats). For those of you who also coveted this jacket, check your local consignment stores in about four to six months, because I can't imagine that most of the people who bought this jacket will actually wear it.

SFDs! Behind the cut-tag, as always.

My "new" team is very nice. People keep stopping by to see how I'm doing, to see what progress I've made in decorating my office (the answer being Quite A Bit), and to see if I have any questions about the topics I'm working on. In other words, they're interested in helping me succeed, instead of the sink or swim school of training I usually experience. It's a nice change.
Thing the First: As some of you know, I have been stuck in a game of Spin the Wheel of Re-Org at work lately, which has had caused me to be sullen, unmotivated, and filled with ennui. As of Friday evening I am now an Official Member of the editing team I was kinda-sorta loosely affiliated with. Hurrah, I DO have a job! I am also going to be moving to a new building in a couple of weeks. (The new building is closer to the cafeteria with the tasty Mexican food, so I must remain diligent in going for walks every day.)

Thing the Second: You all know I'm fascinated with Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat styles, right? Not the suffocatingly frilly, ruffle-covered baby doll stuff, of course, but knee-length skirts, petticoats, and frilly blouses are things I've adored for years now. I've been looking at the [livejournal.com profile] daily_lolita and [livejournal.com profile] egl communities off and on for a few weeks now, and I think it's starting to affect my brain. Because, really, I'm pretty certain that something like this black headdress (clicky link!) would veer waaaaaay too far into mutton dressed as lamb territory. But I keep looking at it. I suspect I'm going to have to make something similar (and wear it around the house while watching [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage's eyes roll right out of his head) to get this out of my system.

(But I still want a mini crown headpiece (clicky link!). That particular bit of coveting hasn't changed.)

Dear Self,

You are going on vacation tomorrow, yay! But that means that there are eight zillion things, all Priority 1, that you have to take care of at work, and thus do not have time to look at LJ. No, not even when you're eating your lunch. And to remind you of this, The Universe will make sure that people on your Friends List post using spider icons that cause you to recoil from your monitor in terror.

Get back to work.

No Love,

Your Brain

Today is Not So Good, for various reasons. Mostly work chaos, with a small side order of work panic. So! I turn to you, invisible friends in the magic box! Tell me things of a cheering-up nature, please.

When I arrived at my desk today, there was a package with a pink USB mouse and pink silicon iBuds for my headphones sitting next to JessicaKate the monster.

::blink blink::

I have no idea who left them. My office-mate says she didn't see anyone leave stuff on my desk.

Surprise prezzies! I love surprise prezzies!

And oooh, the pink mouse lights up! The scroll-y wheel glows pink.

So thank you, secret person who left me pink prezzies! I like them very much.
I really, REALLY need a pink & black croquet mallet.

To keep in my office.

Firstly, a Very Happy Birthday to Princess Tickybox Squeakaboo Lilybean! It's hard to believe it's been a year since you arrived.

Secondly, ieeeee! Work has gotten busier. While I will still be around on LJ and whatnot for much-needed sanity breaks, I may not have time to comment on things. It's not that I don't love you all, it's that work is eating my head.

... What else? While I was brewing a pot of tea (white tea with rose and mint, from "Zhena's Gypsy Tea"), a guy walked through the kitchen, talking on his cell phone. Upon seeing me, he said "Oh my God, that's awesome! Dude, you should see the goth chick here! She's great!", made a thumbs-up gesture at me, and then walked out of the kitchen. Oooo-kay.
