Thing the First: As some of you know, I have been stuck in a game of Spin the Wheel of Re-Org at work lately, which has had caused me to be sullen, unmotivated, and filled with ennui. As of Friday evening I am now an Official Member of the editing team I was kinda-sorta loosely affiliated with. Hurrah, I DO have a job! I am also going to be moving to a new building in a couple of weeks. (The new building is closer to the cafeteria with the tasty Mexican food, so I must remain diligent in going for walks every day.)

Thing the Second: You all know I'm fascinated with Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat styles, right? Not the suffocatingly frilly, ruffle-covered baby doll stuff, of course, but knee-length skirts, petticoats, and frilly blouses are things I've adored for years now. I've been looking at the [livejournal.com profile] daily_lolita and [livejournal.com profile] egl communities off and on for a few weeks now, and I think it's starting to affect my brain. Because, really, I'm pretty certain that something like this black headdress (clicky link!) would veer waaaaaay too far into mutton dressed as lamb territory. But I keep looking at it. I suspect I'm going to have to make something similar (and wear it around the house while watching [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage's eyes roll right out of his head) to get this out of my system.

(But I still want a mini crown headpiece (clicky link!). That particular bit of coveting hasn't changed.)

Thing the Third: Shallow Fashion Details!

  • Black leather pointy-toe ballet flats, decorated with small velvet bows.

  • Black tights, worn under black cotton stockings that have black and pink striped ribbon ties at the tops.

  • Black knee-length vintage circle skirt that laces up the front with pink ribbon, worn over a pink petticoat.

  • Black cotton high-collared blouse with rows of ruffles down the front and slightly belled 3/4-length sleeves.

  • Black-on-black shadow striped waistcoat that closes with hooks and eyes, and has six decorative pink buttons down the front.

  • Jewelry: The usual rings, an antique mini pocket watch necklace, and a black satin choker with a pink crystal skull & crossbones worn over the collar of the blouse.

  • Makeup: YSL Touch Eclat under my eyes, translucent powder, MAC "Pink Opal" pigment on my eyelids with MAC "Mothbrown" lightly applied in the crease, black liquid liner on the top eyelids, smudged black pencil with "Mothbrown" over it as the lower liner, and Chanel "Vamp" lipstick.

  • No hat, no floofy hair ties; I wore my hair down today, which seems to always confuse people.

Pretty head-thing, but no. Too kiddy, methinks. :)

In other news: CONGRATULATIONS ON THE JOBNESS! I'm so relieved for you!

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

yes, that would definitely be mutton dressed as lamb. Not to mention being generally unflattering for your hair and face. That style of hat works on the super short, very fluffed hair styles, not on long elegant locks.

The crown is interesting to me. It makes me wonder if I am not capable of making something like it... I shall have to put some thought into this.

From: [identity profile] julzerator.livejournal.com

Hee.. I think I know how to make one of those crowns... just takes some ridgelene (sp?) and patience. It also looks like it is made out of leather, is that preferred, or is velvet ok?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Velvet is preferable to leather, actually. At least in my wardrobe. :)

Ridgelene? Oh, you mean that flexible poly boning stuff! Huh, that would work, wouldn't it?

From: [identity profile] julzerator.livejournal.com

Yeah, I think that is what they are using here.. it's really nifty especially since you can sew through it, if you get the right stuff. The only downside is that you don't want to store it where it will get crushed, or too warm, as that does cause Ridgelene to warp. (which is why it isn't good for corsets, but is good for adding support to side seams in dresses, jackets and the like)

:)

I'm sure the crown would be pretty simple to make, I just haven't sat down and fiddled with things yet.

*hint*

There is a tut on craftster.org for a crown ;)

Oooh, beaded mini crown tutorial! http://community.livejournal.com/egl_crafts/2429.html

"Mutton dressed as lamb" is part of why I never wear anything with ruffles or patterns. I am way too severe-looking to pull it off.

From: [identity profile] jola.livejournal.com

the lace is too big on the headdress you linked to - you need something more refined and elegant i think. a mini-crown, however, would be perfect. my 2 cents!

From: [identity profile] riani1.livejournal.com

Yay real jobiness! New people to baffle and bemuse.!

From: [identity profile] noxenlux.livejournal.com

The crown shouldn't be that hard to make... I could make one, I should try to :)

Though I know I need to make some more tri-corns and victorian hats first!

Mini crowns are always fantastic. But would you do the bow under chin, or hide it at the nape of your neck? I think the bow under chin look is a bit too twee.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oh, bow hidden at the nape of the neck. Bows under the chin look twee and ridiculous on me.

Bows under the chin look twee and ridiculous on ANYONE not wearing a Jane Austen era straw sun hat with large bow, and even then the bow needs to br to one side. :)

Yay employment! I was beginning to worry about you. And I was all set to work my (few, tenuous) connections on your behalf.

I like the crown, but not so much the other headpiece. I'm with you in think that a lot of EGL is Just Too Much.

From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com

And you with your hair down still seems... risque to me. *fans self*

Is there a nicer way to say 'mutton dressed as parlor maid fetish lamb'? I'm in favor of making things to get them out of your system, but i'd want you to say something to me if you were starting to be disturbed by what's in my system....

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I love this comment. It cracks me up, and you're right. "Mutton dressed as parlor maid fetish lamb". Thank you for the sanity check!

From: [identity profile] domestinatrix.livejournal.com

Oh good. I figured either you'd laugh and file this away with 'let's see how far eyes can roll' or you'd be horribly offended forever.

Yay for job security! The beaded crown tutorial is great.

Oh good, so glad to hear about something good on the job front :)

Worn once! (It was part of my Halloween costume.) And while I love it, unfortunately I just have too much *stuff* in my apartment. Anyway, I'm selling the crown for $20, which is a bit less than what I paid. It's totally no problem if you're not interested --- I just thought I'd offer it to you first since you're the very picture of sartorial fabulousness. ;)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Thank you for the offer, but I'm going to pass on it. (You reminded me that I have a similar tiara lurking around my house somewhere!)
