My birthday weekend was lovely, and thank you to everyone who wished me a happy one! 39 feels no different than 38. For that matter, 39 really feels no different than, say, 30 did. The weekend involved going out to dinner with my parents, and a fancy tea party.
stroppy_baggage, because he is a wonderful and indulgent spouse, surprised me with the mini tricorn from Topsy Turvy Design that I have been coveting for many many months. Let me tell you, that hat is a showpiece of quality construction. Absolutely beautiful, and I can't wait to wear it!
Jacket geebling! My H&M Cavalli jacket arrived this weekend, and my goodness, is it pretty. And it fits me! (I suspect this means that the Powers That Be behind this line went for a touch of vanity sizing, because I *know* I am not actually a size 10, but I'm not complaining.) Since the jacket does fit me through the bust & waist, all I need to do are the minor tweaks I have to perform on every jacket I ever own (adding back vents so it doesn't bunch awkwardly over my petticoats). For those of you who also coveted this jacket, check your local consignment stores in about four to six months, because I can't imagine that most of the people who bought this jacket will actually wear it.
SFDs! Behind the cut-tag, as always.
My "new" team is very nice. People keep stopping by to see how I'm doing, to see what progress I've made in decorating my office (the answer being Quite A Bit), and to see if I have any questions about the topics I'm working on. In other words, they're interested in helping me succeed, instead of the sink or swim school of training I usually experience. It's a nice change.

- Black pointy-toe flats with tiny pink bows.
- Black knee-length cotton stockings with pink ribbons, worn over black opaque tights.
- Short black velvet full skirt worn over a knee-length pink skirt with black lace trim. Both of those are over a black, slightly-shorter than knee-length petticoat.
- Pink Victorian-esque high-collar blouse.
- Waist-length black Mandarin collar jacket.
- Smalll black faux-fur collar/stole that closes with wide black & pink striped satin ties.
- Hair down (with newly-trimmed batwing point bangs), and the usual giant rings.
- Makeup: YSL Touch Eclat, MAC "whistle" eyeshadow with "mothbrown" at the corners, black pencil under my eyes, black liquid liner on the top lids, DiorShow mascara, translucent powder, and Vamp lipstick.

The jacket sounds lovely, I can hardly wait for pictures. I am wondering how you do vents? I could sometimes use that for fitting something over my butt. :)
And YAYYAYYAYYAY!!!! on the work situation. That's totally awesome. I'm very happy for you.

Yes, I do want that stuff. I just keep forgetting to reply to you because work gets distracting. I think the best bet may be you handing it off to me while I'm at the office, and I can make it go home from there.

I broke down and bought it on eBay in an 8, and it arrived today. It fits, although a bit closely, and it's a little bit shorter than I expected so it works oddly with low-rise jeans (it'll work better when I lose the pesky 10-15 pounds I gained this summer), but I think it'll work SPLENDIDLY with my green-and-black Tripp crinoline, and with my longer skirts. And possibly with the high-waist pencil skirt I just bought as well.
OMG what a lovely jacket.
Tell me I don't need to couch a strand of Japan silver around each of the frogs?

It is strangely short, isn't it? I mean, it'll work just fine for my wardrobe of high-waisted skirts and petticoats, but I can't picture people wearing it with trousers or jeans.
Couching a strand of Japan silver around each of the frogs? That sounds like a wonderful (if time-consuming!) idea.

I'm not sure any birthday makes you feel any different instantly. It's when you look back a long ways that you see the changes....
A part of me feels older than dirt (mainly when I try to get up after working in the yard or something) but a part of me is still a kid, and I really do bounce up and down when excited, and it doesn't take much to excite me. Shiny thing! Butterfly! Kitty! Some things never change, no matter how many birthdays you can count.

Happy belated birthday!
Nathan runs Ravenrook (http://www.ravenrook.com/). We're all costume and clothing geeks, and I think he wants to compliment your sartorial splendor! :)
(He and his wife are finally celebrating their wedding next month - they got married last year - and she's making a dress based on a Fortuny gown - it is most squee-worthy.)
