Thanks to the enabling and encouragement from some of you, not to mention looking at this post in [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion, I now want to get a small toy ray gun and modify it. Yes, black with pink details, and make a pink holster for it.

I also want to find a pair of antique-looking goggles to customize to fit in with the pink&black aesthetic, so I can have a Cupcake Gothic Steampunk Lady Explorer outfit. I mean, I've already got the wardrobe (I'd just have to mix & match a couple of pieces). I just need the ray gun and the goggles!

[livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage has already declared that I need to step away from the ray guns and possibly have a time-out. I think he's just saying that in attempt at self-defense, because he realizes that I would need his help with painting things.

Cupcake Gothic Steampunk! C'mon, you KNOW it would be fabulous.

I don't know if they carry them any longer, but I once found a pair of antique-style aviator goggles at Restoration Hardware.

I think you are on the verge of inventing a whole new genre: Steamcake. Anachronism for the sweet tooth.

!!!

That's it! Yes, Steamcake.

([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage has resigned himself to this, and has informed me that if he is going to help me with my pink&black ray gun lunacy, I have to find a toy gun to modify that meets HIS standards. Ah, my perfectionist artist husband. ::grin::)

Steamcake makes me think of a pink cupcake wearing a gas mask. It makes me giggle.

You can pick up a pair of welding goggles (for gas, not arc or MIG) at any hardware store that would be a perfect start for some steampunk bodgin'. Of course, I know that taking you anywhere near blowtorches or welding gear is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, right?

1) Too damn silly!
2) Dead cool!
3) *Swoon*!
4) I must see this when you're done.

the Foglios sell Girl Genius goggles, they're worth a look:

the lenses are replaceable, so if you could find some rose-tinted lenses...

and while it looks a little more like a sex toy than like a ray gun, that there is a translucent pink ray gun out there, well:

also insufficiently retro, but it blows vapor rings!!!:

I guess you liked the idea of a pink holster! :)

I think it's a grand idea! But I"m biased!

I'm sure you've got it under control, but if you need to ask any questions, I'm here for you. ;)

IT is only cool if it actually DOES something

So what is your gun going to do?
Blow pink silly string? Bubbles?
Just light up and go buzz?
Eric and I figured out how to make an ice ray gun for Mr Freeze but we never got around to it.

Make it miniature bubbles!!!! that would be so kewl!!!

Vapour rings! It needs to shoot vapour rings! And you need rose-tinted lenses for the goggles!

(Don't let [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage read this, all right? He has this image of me as dignified, and I'd hate to disillusion him.)

Also, madame, your falconer now has a beard and has grown his hair out.
