cupcake_goth: A lady always carries a handkerchief. (dainty cliche)

Today was busy. In addition to brunch with fabulous people, today was the big supply run for Mourning Market items. Blick art supplies, two thrift stores, Marshall's, Michael's ... I'm sure I'm forgetting somewhere.

Anyhoodle, I now have 8 pairs of blanks to make Cranky!Bloomers!! I have teacups to paint! I have books to make roses from! But it was a lot of running around, and now I am going to fall over. And watch episodes of True Blood with the Infamous BlueJay and Heather, because that's how we decompress around here.
The Value Village in Edmonds (21558 Highway 99), as of today, had a bunch of interesting black cotton blouses (that were not quite Victorian-ish enough for me, but would be perfect for dressier corpgoth wear), some cute lace dresses (very 30s looking), and a vintage parasol with a black canopy in perfect condition. Yes, I passed over the parasol, because I realized my parasol collection is ... well, I don't really need another, and if I DO decide I need a new parasol in my life, I'm saving my pennies and buying the Signature Bella in b&w.

Now, back to writing and chores. (One of which is now "stain removal on the vintage pink & white satin, giant poof skirted 80s prom dress".) That will be transformed into a lovely ruffled skirt for me, oh yes.
This weekend was the Fluevog warehouse/sample sale up in Vancouver B.C. There were all sorts of plots bandied back and forth to road trip up to it, but none of my potential traveling companions had the right sort of ID to leave or re-enter the country. Woe! No searching for Babycake boots in limited edition colors, woe!

HOWEVER. Yesterday was the big annual yard sale day in my neighborhood. Rummage sale at the community center, and 100+ yard sales. [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts and I have a long-standing partnership for hitting yard sales, so we were compelled, COMPELLED I tell you, to Go Forth and bargain-hunt.

We got kind of a late start, as I crawled out of bed around 10:30, and there were other things to be done. But still! I found a couple of ridiculous gothic romances and some teen vampire books, an antique crystal and brass perfume bottle, a hand-tatted lace collar, a chair for Lucretia Evangeline, a display shelf for teacups and other knick-knacks, and ... perfect Victorian-style granny boots. For a dollar.

::throws the horns in victory::

Then we went to the U-district to stop at Gargoyles. I ran into [livejournal.com profile] icprncs, much to my delight. And because it was there, I went into Buffalo Exchange, where I found a lovely pair of knee-high, lace-up Victorian-style boots by some brand named Seychelles. I think the reason they were at BE was that two of the decorative silver buttons at the tops of the boots were missing. But the pronged attachments for the buttons were still there. 10 minutes with a pair of pliers and my button box, and now the boots have new decorative silver buttons. And pink & black striped ribbon laces.

So all in all, I don't regret missing the Fluevog sale.

Today, on the other hand, is about putting indigo on my head, doing some writing, and doing some organizing of the storage room. Oh, and calling the parents, so they can make shocked noises about "We have a daughter? Who knows how to use the phone?" Yeah yeah yeah, you people raised me, you KNOW I'm bad about phone calls. ::grin::
Dear local types,

I don't suppose anyone has seen a vintage or antique top hat for sale anywhere? For less than $50?

(Yeah yeah, I know, eBay blahblahblah. I'd like to be able to try the hat on before I purchase it.)
I know the chances of any of you finding these shoes in a size 8 AND not wanting to keep them for yourselves is really really remote, but hey! If I don't ask, there's no chance of me getting them, right?

So! They were made in 1989, by Prima Royale. If any of you find them in a size 8, GRAB THEM FOR ME. I will, of course, pay for them and shipping costs, and send you presents.

Look! Bat shoes!

I owned a pair of these exact shoes in 1989 (a present from my parents), and wore them to death. I have been looking for another pair for ages and ages. Every time I find a pair (like I did tonight at the Redmond Goodwill), they're TOO GODDAMN SMALL.

(Did that stop me from buying them tonight? What are you, crazy? I will build a shrine to them in the hopes that there's some tiny fragment of truth behind the idea of cargo cults. Having a replica of the shoes I want will make them magically come to me, I KNOW IT. DO NOT TRY TO CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.)
I feel like I didn't get any sleep last night. Which is ridiculous, because I did (and it was filled with odd dreams), but it apparently didn't actually work. I am so, so not amused by this state of being.

Dithering about bags: while I love the black leather Coach tote that [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps (my resident Coach addict) found me, it doesn't have a long strap that I can use to wear the bag across my body, instead of hanging from one of my shoulders. And now that I have a work laptop that I'm going to be carting to and fro, I need a bag that won't put stress on my (already twinge-y and temperamental) shoulders and neck. (And no, I refuse to consider a backpack. Ew.)

So! Target.com, bless 'em, has a bag I like. In pink ([livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps, [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, stop rolling your eyes.) or in black. (Yes, clicky links. You knew that.) I'm (of course) leaning toward the pink one, because, ooh, fun! And at that price, I would feel no remorse about adorning a leather bag with satin bats. But would the black be a better bet? I just don't know.

... gosh, I hope I become clearer-headed soon.
