I'm suddenly possessed with the need (NEED, I tell you!) to own some cute canvas skimmer/ballet -style flats. I have my adored pair of pointy-toe sneakers that I got at Hot Topic almost three years ago, but I'd like another pair of black canvas shoes to wear this summer. Canvas shoes don't get as hot and sticky as leather shoes, and don't chafe like most sandals do.

So, what have I (or other friends who I've been burbling at) found?

Canvas Mary Jane -style

With little embroidered flowers.

Pink & black Vans. With a bow. Eeee!

Black Keds, which look cute, but have not-so-good reviews.

These are the ones I like the best so far. All black, with stripy detailing! The only reason I haven't ordered them is I can't decide if the lack of pointy-toe-ness means I wouldn't actually wear them. (Yes, I know. I will not find pointy-toe flats in canvas again. I *knew* I should have bought two pairs of those sneakers from Hot Topic ...)

Oh, and while not quite what I was looking for, they ARE ruffly.

So, a question for those of you that actually looked at the various links: would I actually wear any of those, even tho' none of them are pointy-toed? I need comfy shoes to walk around in, and I really like the black ones w/ the stripy details AND the black-with-pink Vans. ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, [livejournal.com profile] alexiarnps, I can hear you both rolling your eyes.)

I like the first link to canvas mary janes the best, and then the pink and black vans of extreme cuteness.

Oh and the ruffly shoes are v. cute but suede gets so icky when in shoe form. It always drives me craaaazy.

It looks like the black Vans are patent.

I suspect the canvas is only available in the non-black versions.

Yeah, I just noticed that (when I was looking at them again). Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Hmmm.

For sheer levels of cute, and the ones that seem most Princess-Moonbeamy? I'd go with the Vans.

For comfyness, the canvas Mary Janes.

The only thing keeping my vote fully for the Vans was the vinyl. Wasn't sure how much breathing you wanted to give to the toesies.

They are cute, aren't they. I just don't know how non-sticky they'd be. Why couldn't they be canvas? Whyyyyyyy?

The ones with the little embroidered flowers are rather cute, though they look soft/light black and would require one's soft black/grey wardrobe...

I think the Greenwood Fred Meyer has those canvas Keds ballet flats.

I have been in a sandal wasteland; I cannot seem to find refined black leather sandals, flat, with a strap. They're all flip-flops, slides, short heels, mules or espadrilles (I like the latter, but don't want to walk in them for a mile). ...And still more flip-flops. The shoe landscape has been Britnefied.

And here I thought last years' sandals were ugly.

I haven't had much luck finding decent sandals, either. Which is why I'm opting for cute, sneaker-esque shoes.

I'll check the Greenwood FM about the Keds; if I like them, I will call my mom and have her pick them up from her store.

I like the VAns as well, except of course for the vinyl ...

And I bought a pair of flat black ankle-strap sandals on Ebay a couple weeks ago, because I had the same problem. I tried to search on them but didn't find anything similar, sadly.

I likes the ones with the stripey detail, and also the vans. The ruffly ones are supremely cute, also.

Good luck in your search.

Well, as I don't know you terribly well, I couldn't say what your likelyness to wear any of the shoes is... but...

Those Vans are so incredibly adorable that it hurts. If I thought that they'd fit my wide, squat little feet I'd purchase them in an instant.

So, my vote goes to the Vans.

The keds are comfy, but they look rundown/grubby really quickly.

The last ones look the most Princess Moonbeam-ish to me, even without pointy toes. After that I'd go for the mary janes. The others scream "suburban mom in an embroidered jumper!" to me.

Stripy detailing, definitely. I can picture them perfectly popping out from a pink and black petticoat.

Those Vans are about the cutest evar! Too bad there is no patent canvas :(

I'm still trying to get used to the idea of you wearing sneakers. ;-)

That said, I like the stripeys myself, and then the Mary Janes. Though the flowers are cute too. Ooh--and they're velvet. *ponders*

Don't order from Zappos, they suck like a sucking thing that sucks a lot.

I ordered a pair of shoes from them once. First they were shipped wrong (signature required even though i clearly specified that i wanted them left on my porch with no signature). Then the sizing was all screwy (on Doc frikkin' Martens), so i had to return them for exchange. They have this overly complicated exchange system that involves having to pay for both pairs of shoes, plus them not shipping the second pair until they've received the 1st pair back. The second pair were sized in a different sort of screwy, plus their customer service was notably rude, so i just returned them for a refund, but never got my money back.

I like the mary janes and the pink vans! :)

Stripey heels, I'd say.

Frankly, all the others have that white rubber edge, which, well, outlines the foot (making it appear larger), and emphasizes the round-toey-ness.

The ones with the stripey wedge heel look like they have a fairly slender toe, like most dress flats. Maybe not as comfy, but more petite/cute looking.

The Vans particularly, looked clumpy, and I don't see you doing clumpy.

Hmm... I'd say the maryjane bec. it seems like it'd go w/everything & be comfy. The Keds look closer to your HT shoe, but I'm scared away by the reviews. If you could find them in a local store & try for yrself, that'd be best. Btw, I've only bought from Zappos once, but it was excellent. Super fast shipping, great customer service, nice shoes too.
