The tea cart set up for tonight's marathon viewing of Hannibal.

The Infamous BlueJay is also bringing delicacies. Dear [livejournal.com profile] icprncs, I won't thump you for the "finger foods" comment of earlier, because all of us made that joke, too.
Dammit, fandom is luring me into (eventually) watching Teen Wolf. This is particularly ridiculous because 1) werewolves are SO NOT my thing, and 2) every photo I've seen of the actors makes me tilt my head and go "I'm sure you're attractive to many people, but not to my tastes, thanks". But noooo, one of my absolute favorite writers* has started writing in Teen Wolf fandom. Hence, I'm going to get dragged into watching the show.

G-d dammit, this is how I ended up watching Supernatural.

*Let me put it this way: I am talking about the writer who wrote my ALL-TIME favorite fics; the giant novel-length fic which I have saved in some sort of ebook format on every device it can be stored on. Yes, I have Bandpires on my phone.
The Husband has been playing Halo: Reach since it came out on Tuesday. The past few days, he's been playing multi-player in it. But on this particular map? Mission? Something? The Very Serious Halo Voice will occasionally say:

"Revenge."

"Killjoy."

It is taking ALL of my willpower not to turn to him and burble "Awww, the Halo game is excited about the new MCR album, too! Revenge AND Killjoys!"

I know he would not find this as amusing as I do. But I think it's hysterical.
So the longer post of fangirl geebling is over at my LJ, but the important info is this:

New MCR album, with a supposed release date of 11/22! (Happy belated birthday to ME!)

The first single is rumored to be "Bulletproof Hearts", with a release date of 9/28! THAT IS SOON! OH THANK GOODNESS!

I am ridiculously flaily about this. Gerard's description of the album being post-apocalyptic punk pop? BRING IT. It sounds like the boys have been mainlining Tank Girl and Transmetropolitan comics, and I am all for that.

I think that while the Stroppy One is off at his appointment this afternoon, I will have The Black Parade Is Dead! playing on the TV while I edit.
Today is a day of running some errands, and then doing the behind-the-scenes code-y bits to get a new section of the Gothic Charm School site up tomorrow. (I have the content all written and everything, now is the fiddly part.) Tonight, while the Stroppy One goes off to game night, I am going to lounge around, paint my nails, and read BONESHAKER. There are other things I could do, like write or work on one of a billion sewing projects, but no. I want a lazy evening.

Have all of you seen [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's post about celebrity, fandom, and boundaries? (clicky-link!) If you haven't, you should. Because the incident that prompted her to make the post is the sort of behavior that makes the rest of us who are fans of any media-related person (musician, actor, writer, whomever) not only ::facepalm::, but makes us loath to TALK ABOUT BEING A FAN. Because we don't want to get labeled as one of the deeply crazy people.

An example: as many of you know, I am a big fan of My Chemical Romance. I have been known, on occasion, to refer to Gerard Way as my Rock Star Crush Object, and have jokingly mentioned that I would like to keep the band as pets, in highly decorative cages. JOKINGLY. They are real people, with real lives, and the times that I have been lucky enough to meet them, I have essentially told them that I admire them and their work, thank you for writing these great songs. I have not flung myself at them babbling incoherently. This past summer at San Diego Comic Com, when I had the good fortune to randomly meet and have a conversation with Gerard Way and give him a copy of my book? The Stroppy One had to almost push me over to talk to him, because I didn't want to be One Of Those Fans. The Stroppy One was also the one who said, "Don't you want a photo with him?". I didn't think of it myself, probably because I didn't want to infringe on Gerard's time or personal space any more than I already had.

(Thank you, oh Stroppy One, for pushing me into that and taking the photo. squeee!)

In short. Go read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's post. BOUNDARIES, PEOPLE. APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR. KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND.

Okay, now I go work on the site.
io9 has an entry about the Sweethearts Twilight candy. (clicky-link!)

And yes, because my friends DO think that way, I already have two boxes of these. [livejournal.com profile] haate, I still haven't decided if I should thump you for getting them for me. On the one hand, bwah-ha-ha! Conversation hearts that say "Bite Me"? Comedy GOLD, folks. Comedy gold. On the other hand, ohgod, Twilight merchandise*.

Oh, and I have I mentioned I'm going on a road trip to Forks this weekend, because I apparently find it difficult to refuse [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix anything? There will be updates from the road, oh yes. Maybe I should take along a box of sparklehearts as a themed snack option ...

*Okay, fine, I not only purchased a sample pack of the Aromaleigh Twilight sparkle powders, but I ended up buying a full-size jar of "Lustre" (the one with the lowest amount of sparkle). But my fondness for sparkly makeup is well-known, and pre-dates the whole sparkly vampire craze, dammit!
- My sleep was not defective last night, ohthankgoodness. It didn't make up for the vaguely defective sleep from the past few days, but hey, it's a start!

- The sad news about Lux Interior led me to discover that I only have one song by The Cramps in my iTunes. Huh? Time to go pick up some CDs and fix that.

- I just came up with an idea for a skirt I want to make, but I'm not sure when I will have free time to figure out the pattern/gather supplies/find exactly the right image I want to use as the appliqué. I wonder if I could sweet-talk the Stroppy One into creating the design for me that I could print onto iron-on transfer paper ...

- Hey, there's that steampunk event tomorrow night at Heaven! Which I would be more interested in going to if it wasn't for the $17 cover charge. (For the record, I am not a fan of Abney Park's music. It just doesn't grab me. So paying $17 to go see the fashion show, look at vendor tables, and hear [livejournal.com profile] djeternaldarkne and [livejournal.com profile] dj_sprockets spin is a little steep for my tastes.)

- You people all have seen the amaaaaaazing Twilight fandom kerfuffle that's been going on, right? No, not about the crazy lady who made a felted sculpture representing Bella's womb. (No, I'm not kidding, and no, I'm not linking.) No, I mean the EW post by Stephen King where he dismisses Stephenie Meyer as a crappy writer, and comments about J.K. Rowling being a good writer. Twilight fandom, predictably, goes crazy. A collection of the best insane responses, and comments from people from other fandoms. (clicky-link!) My favorite clueless comment from the TwiFans: "I encourage Rowling and King himself to write the book that fascinates the readers at this point". Look, just go to Cleolinda's entry about this. (clicky-link!) Aaaah, Twilight fandom, making the rest of us look relatively sane in comparison. Thanks!

  • Oh look, it's snowing. And sticking. Dear Snow Demons, I DID NOT SUMMON YOU. GO AWAY.

  • An article [livejournal.com profile] icprncs linked to the other day: Your Friends Are Not Watching the Same Show As You are and That's Okay. (yes, clicky-link!) After reading it, I have determined that, in regards to SPN, I am watching the "Your grasp of magic and mythology make my head explode" show, with occasional special episodes of the "Bobby Singer is awesome" show.

  • I need people's opinions: I was idly thinking of occasionally writing more amusements and distractions GCS posts, in addition to the lessons that actually try to address questions from the readers. What do you folks think of that idea?

  • Dear Snow Demons, I MEAN IT. GO AWAY.

A vaguely spoilery comment, so behind the cut-tag it goes. )

Busy. Busy busy busy. Not with work, really, because things are oddly quiet around my part of the Evil Empire. But I'm still busy. Stuff that has been going on includes:

    - We went to the Herbfarm last Friday, as a belated anniversary dinner. It was fantastic, and I really need to write up a post about it that includes the menu.

    - Trying to get holiday shopping done. As always, my mother is VERY DIFFICULT to shop for. Tomorrow night is the traditional shopping trip with my Dad, which I always look forward to. (For those who haven't met him, my Dad is AWESOME. And crazy. Our yearly holiday shopping expedition is one of the highlights of the holiday season for me.)

    - Dentist visits. Let's just say it has been a Very Long Time since I saw a dentist (what with being somewhat afraid of them AND dental insurance wackiness), but last week I finally unearthed my courage and went to one. As it turns out, this particular dentist is very cool (and funny!), so my fear is lessening. (It helps that he has his office set up so I can watch DVDs while he's working on my teeth; last night's movie was Addams Family Values) I now have five new fillings, and next year I have to have all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. No, I am not looking forward to this.

    - Writing. I've been working on a bunch of different things, and oh hey! I really need to post a new GCS column, don't I? I'd better finish the current one ...

So, yeah. Busy. Plus being distracted by various things like the Help the Crew donation drive (clicky link, and one you really should click!) that Allyson Beatrice is organizing. (You did know that the Writers' Strike has affected more than just the writers, right? Support the crew!)

Other distractions include discussions on [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion, and various people making sure I saw this picture. ([livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage, don't click that link. You'll roll your eyes and make a fondly exasperated noise, trust me.)

So, with all of that, I've not been around much. I've been reading people's posts, but not commenting a lot.

So I'll just end this update-y post with Shallow Fashion Details, shall I? )
