MCR posted a teaser video on their website. The opening notes of "Welcome to the Black Parade" play, while a white flag with a stylized black "X" flutters. The video ends with "9/23/2016".

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

My suspicion is that Warner Brothers is going to release a special 10th anniversary edition of The Black Parade. (Because GOOD GRIEF it really has been 10 years since that album was released.) My geebly fangirl hope is that the band is going to reunite for a tour. I really doubt that's what's going to happen, BUT A WEARY FANGIRL CAN HOPE, DAMMIT.

I'm finally listening to Hesitant Alien, Gerard Way's solo release. It is ... very 90s Britpop. I know I will need to listen to it at least a few more times so I can actually take in the songs and give them a chance without the current brain overlay of THIS IS NOT MCR AND I AM NOT SURE I'M OKAY WITH THAT YET

It still feels really weird to me that I immediately fell for the new FOB single "Centuries" (even if the video is the type of ridiculous that means I don't really want to watch it again), but I'm having to emotionally sidle up to the GWay album. However, GWay looks damn good in this incarnation, with his deliberate nods to iconic Bowie styles. And Lola, the furry, gender-neutral mascot of the album is adorable.

But "Centuries"! Not only is it kinda the perfect song for someone to do a Vampire Chronicles fanvid to, but it has trademark Pete Wentz is not an emotional role model lyrics. "I never meant for you to fix yourself", yeeeaaaah.

(The FOB single that was done for Big Hero 6 is a smidge too synthpoppy/autotuned for it to immediately grab my heart, so I will just keep listening to "Centuries" on repeat.)

(Actually, I'm not sure what it says about my brain that I kind of want to listen to an endless loop of "Centuries" and "Fake Your Death", the last MCR single.)

(Admit it, all of you have missed my bandom flailing. ADMIT IT.)
- Wow, our house makes random noises. No, lots of them. That I usually don't notice.

- It takes the cats about three days to realize the other biped isn't around, and they are PERPLEXED by this.

- Left my own devices, I prefer not to cook. I swear I will not live off fancy cheese, crackers, cold cuts, and veggies the entire time the Stroppy One is away. Really. Promise.

- Coffee. Coffee coffee coffee coffee.

- I'm a little sad/weirded out that I like the new FOB single better than Gerard Way's first solo single. However, I'm amusing myself by imagining a completely cracktastic and EPIC fandom vid for The Vampire Chronicles set to the FOB song, because OMG IT TOTALLY FITS. stop giving me that look
Yes, I saw the news about MCR.

Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

I admit it, I feel kind of numb.

I was very productive last night, and even convinced myself to do 40 minutes on the exercise bike. (The trick, apparently, is to bribe myself with watching part of Life on the Murder Scene (the "Revenge"-era MCR documentary) while pedaling. Shut up, I own my fangirlish ways.)

This morning, I posted a new Gothic Charm School, applied extra-sparkly eye makeup, and while applying my eyeliner decided that to really make today better than yesterday, I needed to wear one of my favorite outfits, not the outfit I had set out last night.

Olde Skool text-version Shallow Fashion Details! )

(The Goth at the Office photo will happen later.)

Now I focus on work stuff, and listen to the bandom playlist to remind myself that no matter how bad I felt yesterday, I am more emotionally stable than Pete Wentz. (That's a very comforting thing to remind myself, sometimes.)
Dammit, fandom is luring me into (eventually) watching Teen Wolf. This is particularly ridiculous because 1) werewolves are SO NOT my thing, and 2) every photo I've seen of the actors makes me tilt my head and go "I'm sure you're attractive to many people, but not to my tastes, thanks". But noooo, one of my absolute favorite writers* has started writing in Teen Wolf fandom. Hence, I'm going to get dragged into watching the show.

G-d dammit, this is how I ended up watching Supernatural.

*Let me put it this way: I am talking about the writer who wrote my ALL-TIME favorite fics; the giant novel-length fic which I have saved in some sort of ebook format on every device it can be stored on. Yes, I have Bandpires on my phone.

A conversation with the fabulous StuntHusband: "What bandom is to you, Downton is to me.

No. Really. I don't actually need fic written in that universe, but
anything Downton-esque delights me without end."

Of course, you can guess what my next thought was. OMG, IS there any bandom-Downton Abbey AU fic? If there is, please give me links!

So, while I am a HUGE fan of My Chemical Romance, and am especially fond of Fall Out Boy, I never really got into Panic at the Disco. They seemed cute enough (if terribly, terribly young), but their music never really grabbed me.

I ... I like the new single. I liked the new single BEFORE I saw the video for it. But the video is all steampunk, with a wake and a vengeful ghost! Some of my favorite flavors of eye candy! (Not to mention that in some sections of the video, the lead singer is done up to look like a baby version of Dave Vanian.) It's almost as if they decided to make a video to catch the attention of all the ElderGoths who've been doing neo-Victorian for years and years. And damn them, it's working.

(This (clicky-link!) is a link to the teaser trailer for the video. The full video is on MTV's site, but I'm not linking to them.)

Did I roll my eyes at all the goggles on top hats? Yes, I did. Did I come close to ::facepalming:: at the sight of all the gears affixed to things? Oh yes. But otherwise, the video is all sorts of fun, and the damn song is catchy.

Help me. I don't need to be enamored of another band from the bandom scene.
