Celebrate the feminine. Make art. Scream. Cry. Create. Be Raw. Take up space w/out apology. Love your beautiful body. Organize. Come. Live.

In addition to standing up, speaking out, and defending people at risk, in addition to donating to causes and organizations that are doing good work, this idea of #harpycorps is really resonating with me. Because let me be honest: I am a cis, white, heterosexual woman. My markers of "other" are chosen self-adornment. I've got a fair amount of privilege. But I am going to use that privilege to stick to my weird ways, to be unrepentantly visible, to use my visibility to back up people who need it, and to reassure other oddball and eccentric folks that they're not alone.

Today's Gothic Charm School post is about babybats striving to become more fully themselves. There's also a section at the top of the post with links to causes that could use support and donations now more than ever.

I hope you folks will stand with me.

This is a signal boost and a request for help for [livejournal.com profile] ashbet, who is an utter love. X-posted from her LJ:

For anyone sharing/reading this who doesn't know me directly (I'll make it a public post) -- my daughter and I have a genetic disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is painful, degenerative, and disabling.

My partner of seven years left me today.

He was laid off in October, and we are unable to afford COBRA, so we're without insurance as of January 1.

We have high prescription expenses and normally need to see specialists regularly. I was in the middle of a cardiac workup to try to get some difficult heart symptoms under control, but I won't be able to see the cardiologist again until we have insurance, or I'm able to find a housemate to assist with expenses.

My daughter and I are both on Medicare, so we can't buy insurance through the ACA exchange. Private "Medicare Part D" insurance doesn't cover the majority of our drug costs.

We had been covered through my partner's employer-provided insurance, and if he is able to find work, he is going to try to cover us again, even though we are no longer together. In the meanwhile, we're going to have high medical expenses and no real way to pay for them.

Please signal-boost, and thank you to anyone who can share this or can donate. I am incredibly thankful for the emotional support that my friends have provided, and I hope that we can get through this tenuous and frightening time with a little bit of help.

Thank you, so very much.
[livejournal.com profile] snowcoma needs to find shelter for her two kitties, in the Seattle area-i

"HALP HALP HALP! Two kitties in dire need of a place to stay!

Mackenzie has to move out, and her mother is severely allergic, so she has to clean the whole apartment of cat ASAP. Otherwise, they'd keep the cats on for much longer.

This is for two cats, Edward (THE Edward cat) and Little Owl. They are both loving, snuggly, and not pains in the ass."

If you can help, please leave a comment!
Taken from [livejournal.com profile] javagoth - thank you!

I'm happy to report he is doing better and has plenty of money for his recovery. All extra funds will be used for other kitties that need vet care and they are also asking for donations to be given to the Humane officers - with a link to the appropriate place on their web site. Among other things these folks pursue legal action in cases like the kitty in the previous post - now named Clark Kent.

There is a special, horrible place in Hell for people who abandon pets. I firmly believe that.

A good samaritan found this cat today in a gutter by Clark Park, half dead. He is now at the Cat Doctor with a body temperature of 90 (normal is 102) and blood PCV of 8. The Cat Doctor housecat, Diamond, is currently donating blood to save his life. During the exam, the vet found that this cat has a microchip. When called, his "owners" reported that he was acting sick, so they put him outside. If this makes you as angry as it makes us, please channel your anger in one of two ways: visit our website at www.citykitties.org and make a donation to help us pay for his care, or share this post and encourage others to do so.

My Dad is doing his best to keep his head above water, but the financial reality is that the bills from my Mom's hospitalization and the aftermath of her death are pretty ugly. So I'm asking for donations to help my Dad.

Thank you, everyone, for your continuing good thoughts and help. We really appreciate it.

Help [livejournal.com profile] donnaricci find a good home for this adorable abandoned cat!

The full story is here in Donna's LJ. The very short version is: the previous owner of this cat moved and left her with a relative. A relative who decided they didn't want to bother with a cat, and abandoned her by the Equestrian
Center by Clockwork Couture.

I have a very low opinion of people who abandon pets; that is putting it mildly. (Someday I will tell you people stories of the various pets I had to rescue when I was in my 20s and working in retail hell.) I would love to see this charming cat find a good home. So! If you're in California and would like to help out, please scoot over to [livejournal.com profile] donnaricci's journal and read the details. Thank you!
[livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre is looking for a new day care provider for Princess Tickybox. I told her I'd ask and see if any of you folks had suggestions for Seattle-area day care, because who knows? One of you might!

"We need somewhere around the U District, if possible, and yes, I've already checked out childcare.org and the MS compiles."

Anyone?
