This is how I spent my afternoon. It was done by Joe Who of Pierced Hearts, who is the best tattooist for delicate line work that I have ever seen.

But now I won't forget this very important advice. Ever. If I do, I just have to look at my arm.
Help me, oh LJ Hivemind! I have an upcoming photo shoot where I need to look, er, mad. Not angry, but crazy. I would also prefer that the mad look be at least a bit flattering, because I'm vain. (Look, I will freely admit to my vanity. I am not in denial about it.)

Anyway, yes. Mad-looking makeup. I'm thinking of something vaguely Emilie Autumn-ish, but without the heart or the exaggeratedly-tiny lips.

EA photo under the cut, so you can see what I mean )

But maybe more pinks and deep purple/browns, instead of red and black, because I've learned that trying to do that sort of look in red and black makes me look tired and unwell.

So, this is where I turn to the LJ Hivemind! Give me suggestions or tips for doing flattering-yet-mad-looking makeup, please! Thank you.
Should I purchase duplicates of the 4 MAC shadows* I use the most and build a palette for traveling? So that I don't need to worry about shuffling it from one makeup bag to the other?

On the one hand, I AM doing a lot of traveling in the near future.

On the other hand, do I NEED duplicates of 4 eye shadows? Even if I wear them almost every day?

Dear LJ Hivemind, please give me advice!

*Mylar, Sketch, Sweet Lust, and Forgery. None of them limited edition colors, thank goodness.

Caveat the First! This is entirely brainstorming and speculation, peoples. NOTHING has been decided, scheduled, or writ in stone.

Caveat the Second! But this is a serious question. So any feedback, advice, or information that you can give me will be VERY HELPFUL.

With those caveats out of the way: There is a chance that there will be a Gothic Charm School book event in NYC. But, I need to be able to pull a decent-sized crowd. As in, a minimum of 50 people attending. If I were to do a reading/signing in NYC, do you folks think I would be able to guarantee my publisher/publicity peeps an audience of at least 50? I, of course, would promote the event on the GCS site, Twitter, LJ, Facebook, and anywhere else I could, in addition to my publisher promoting it.

::stuffs a cookie in the mouth of The Voice Of Modesty to keep it quiet:: I think that a GCS event would be able to draw at least 50 people, but I don't know AND may be crazy. This is there I turn to you people for feedback and sanity checks.
Let me save you $40, here's how to be happy. (Clicky-link!)

Yes, what the author is saying is obvious. And yes, I know that lots of us follow some (or all) of his advice. But hey, reminders are good!

You really should click through and read the post, but the condensed version is this:

1. Stop being a dick.
2. Stop whining.
3. Get out, get some exercise, unplug and deal with real people.
4. If people are treating you like crap, then let them go.
5. Your critics are always right.
6. Do hard stuff for a change.
7. Let stuff go / suck it up.

Sooo, I really need to keep working on 2, 6, and 7. I need to remember all of them, really, but 2, 6, and 7 are the ones I tend to not be as diligent about.

EDIT: a comment from [livejournal.com profile] javagoth made me want to clarify something. No, I don't entirely agree with #5. But, I think it's meant in the "Their perception is valid, and you might want to try and figure out what has given them that particular perception of you. Don't just dismiss it out of hand."

One's critics aren't always right. But I do think listening to one's critics is more valuable than a knee-jerk dismissive reaction.
[livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre is looking for a new day care provider for Princess Tickybox. I told her I'd ask and see if any of you folks had suggestions for Seattle-area day care, because who knows? One of you might!

"We need somewhere around the U District, if possible, and yes, I've already checked out childcare.org and the MS compiles."

Anyone?
So, remember that amazing jacket I burbled about? (Yes you do. If you really don't, look here.)

It hits "select H&M locations" on Thursday. Now, [livejournal.com profile] e_juliana has kindly offered to go pick one up for me. Which means the question is, what size should I tell her to get?

The waistcoat I'm wearing at the moment? Size 12. A lot of my jackets are size 12. But what if Roberto Cavalli sizes (or H&M sizes, for that matter) run small? Because it's not going to exactly be easy to go exchange the jacket.

::dither dither dither::

So, can anyone give me information about H&M sizes?
