Coming Soon to This Journal: a post about new makeup (shakes tiny fist at alexiarnps), dithering about clothing choices for C13, and possibly some thoughts and reflections about the ever-growing trend of "cute" skull accessories. Thoughts and reflections other than my usual reaction of "Oooh, shiny! Wanty!", because I actually have been thinking about this stuff from a cultural statement viewpoint. You know, meta thinky-things, not just the magpie reaction.

So yeah. Coming Soon, I swear.

I dunno, part of me thinks the renewed popularity of skulls in accessories is a modern day use of momento mori. Death is everywhere, especially in this day and age. It could be sudden or slow, but it's there.

At least that's how I look at it sometimes. I have a ton of skull and crossbones/just skulls accessories and clothes.

I have to admit that, thanks to my MiL's eBay habit and my son's love of pirates, we happen to own quite a few examples of cute skullwear.
