But first, thank you [livejournal.com profile] mimi_monsterr and [livejournal.com profile] arlis for the LJ gifties!

I am craving an ivory/white ruffled blouse. Specifically, a "poet" or "pirate" blouse, with a high collar. Why can't I find any in my size? I'm talking ones like this (clicky-link!) (which I would snap up in a second if it was in my size), or this one (clicky-link!) (which again, a smidge too small for my bust). I want at least 3/4 sleeves and flowing, drapey Ruffles Of Doom, dammit. (Which is why this blouse (clicky-link!) isn't quite right.

Remember when you would find oodles of these sorts of blouses in every thrift store? Not any more, hmmph. This is vexing me. I need one to wear with riding jackets and long velvet waistcoats!
Hi LJ hivemind!

I am looking for a white/ivory/cream colored lace jacket or blazer. Unlined (tho' if need be, I could remove the lining from one.) I had one on order from Newport News, but after a couple of rounds of spectacularly bad customer service, I canceled my order with them. (Seriously, if you never sent me a confirmation email, your "contact customer service!" page resolves to an error page every time I try to submit my question, and I spend over an hour on hold for two separate calls? I'm not giving you my money.)

Anyway, I want an unlined lace blazer or jacket, in white, ivory, or cream, size 12/14. Preferably hip-length or longer, with a classic blazer-style notched or shawl collar. And of course, as inexpensive as possible. Help me find one?

(If any of you happen to have such a thing languishing in your closet and it needs a new home, please tell me!)

I suspect my true inner self looks like a more idealized cartoon/anime version of me. Yes, I'm completely serious.

What would she tell me? Probably to stop worrying about things I can't fix, and that I shouldn't pay attention to the various voices of doubt and fear that eat away at me from time to time. She'd also probably tell me to pay more attention to [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny.

I find myself browsing for military or Adam Ant -style jackets AGAIN. I am well aware that I don't need any, but I love looking at them. I'm sure part of it is that the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie comes out SOON, and I love pirate-y clothes.

Also, I need to stop paying attention to the insidious whispers of the Body Image Monsters, and start wearing some of the ivory-with-black-accents outfits I've put together. Thanks to thrifting and going through my to be altered stash, I have three or four different outfits, and I want to show them off. But when the time comes to get dressed for something, I second (and third and fourth)-guess myself out of them. Hmmph.

Twitter is indeed the latest incarnation of it's a small world - the Twitter account for the Claire's Accessories brand thanked me for mentioning them in the Gothic Charm School prom post. Wacky.
Last night's Vampire Masquerade Ball was wonderful. Here, have some quick phone photos that were taken last night.

Yes, posted elsewhere last night. )
I'm already looking forward to next year's event. And yes, I'm also already trying to think of what my outfit will be.
Ivory or cream-colored outfits. I keep finding myself idly browsing eBay, looking for ivory military jackets.

I know part of it is the ivory or white for mourning idea. I also know that part of it is my long-standing fascination with Patricia Morrison from the "Dominion" music video.

So. Anyone seen any really striking, semi-Victorian jackets or blazers in ivory or white and want to give me clicky-links? I suspect that after the Vampire Ball this weekend, I am going to be doing a lot of browsing of thrift stores, searching for garments to customize.

The thrifting Powers That Be withheld their favor today. Okay, sure, I found a pair of pinstriped PVC trousers from Lip Service, and two tea cups with heart-shaped saucers, but did I find an ivory wedding dress at a reasonable price? Oh no, I did not. If I had realized LAST WEEKEND that I needed one, I probably would have found one. Hmmph.

I wonder if I can sweet-talk [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts or my Dad into running to St. Vinnie's tomorrow? Is it worth it? Or should I just bite the bullet and make a long, vaguely Victorian-ish skirt from the bits and bobs of ivory fabric I have around. Questions, questions.

(But still no photos. I'll try and take some tonight, but I plan to be busy writing and doing a sewing project.)

Today, the ever-delightful [livejournal.com profile] celadon_noise (hubby of [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts, and the musical genius behind the "Dark Decorum", the music that is used in the Gothic Charm School videos) took me thrift shopping. He goes thrifting like I do: quickly. Sure, I can bimble around a thrift store and take ages, but my preferred method is a brisk pace, and seeing what jumps out at me.

(Yes, that's how I found the Fluevogs yesterday.)

Anyhoodle, we hit ::stops to count:: four thrift stores; three Goodwills, one Value Village. The loot, in list form: )

Aaaaaand, I may have figured out the solution to my need an ivory top hat dilemma! I will take one of my black top hats that is the right shape, and cover it with ivory lace. (As in, cut out and fit pieces, then tack them down with matching thread. Fiddly, yes, but something I can probably do in an evening while watching silly movies.)
