Yesterday turned out to be a Not Able To Write day (it happens), so instead I finished making what may be the most quintessential Cupcake Goth skirt yet: knee-length, with side panels in black twill. The front panel, ruffled hem, and back panel that is covered in three tiers of large ruffles were all made from the Skullduggery fabric by Alexander Henry (clicky-link!), which I had spent an evening dyeing pink. Yes, I have a black & pink skirt with Victorian-esque skulls. I think I'm going to wear it to the Emilie Autumn show.

Video games! Last night, for the first time in my life, I set up a video game. Yes, I now have my own copy of Rock Band for the PS3. BlueJay was over last night, and helped me select wardrobe for my avatar. There was much conversation of "Ooooh, you need that in Real Jilli size!" "Jay, I don't wear skirts that short." "But you COULD!"

I named my fictional band Vampbait. Whaaaaat? Of course I did, don't look surprised.

The Stroppy One has promised that I can go onto the Rock Band music store and purchase some songs, so I don't make squinchy faces at some of the tracks offered to me in game at this level. (Oh lord, Alice 'n Chains. No. Just ... please no.) I am planning on purchasing some Siouxsie, some Psychedelic Furs, and "thnkx 4 th mmrs" by Fall Out Boy. Not only because I do like the song, but it's become very, very funny to me recently, for various reasons.

Speaking of ridiculous purchases, I am kind of tempted by this (clicky-link). I would wear it with fitted blazers and fluffy skirts, and it would look very cute. The Stroppy One would probably be appalled, but [livejournal.com profile] cass404 and others who have a shameful hair metal past would throw the horns in glee.

So we're at [livejournal.com profile] cass404's place, watching teevee. Oooh, VH1 has a "Metal Mania" show, which means that [livejournal.com profile] cass404 and I can relive our tragic hair metal past, and [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage can look on in horror.

A Krokus video came on. Cass and I rolled our eyes. The Stroppy One looked at the lead singer, winced, and uttered the immortal quote:

"My God, it's like Gary Glitter meets Will Ferrell."

Cass and I haven't stopped giggling.

Our tragic hair metal past! Yaaay! Or oh dear oh dear. Your choice.
But it's not. Because honestly? I'm not ashamed of anything in my music collection.

Apparently in times of stress, I default to the playlists with songs about vampires, or to the "Eyeliner and Aquanet" playlist.

- I'm trying to exert some willpower and not 1) go brew a second pot of tea, or 2) go buy an acceptable-but-not-great americano from the cafe. I feel like I need more caffeine, but I know it will only be a temporary fix. Sadly, my not doing either thing is not so much because my willpower is strong, but the fact that I'm craving GOOD coffee.

- I am idly (well, not so idly) trying to decide if I want to do something completely insane right after SDCC. You see, the day after we come home from the giant con, I could take the train down to Portland, meet up with [livejournal.com profile] cass404, and attend a Motley Crue concert with her. Because we both have silly hair metal pasts, and really? Going to see ridiculously theatrical RAWK shows while dressed in full Cupcake Goth apparel is one of my favorite silly things to do.

(Why yes, I've been listening to the "Eyeliner and Aquanet" playlist on the iPod, why do you ask?)

But wow, I'd be tired from the con, and my schedule for July is already kind of nutty. But it's very tempting.

- As a semi-related tangent, I realized that my office decor is sadly lacking a couple of posters. I need a poster of Prince Charming -era Adam Ant, a poster of Shout At The Devil -era Nikki Sixx, and perhaps one of the promo posters for the album Lestat releases in the Queen of the Damned movie. (What? The promo material they made for that looked great. (clicky-link!) Pity the poster doesn't actually, y'know, EXIST.)
First, the makeup question: speak to me of long-wearing, non-smudging eyeliner pencils, please. I am starting to prefer a less sharp or harsh line under my lower lashes, which means something other than liquid liner. But I haven't seriously shopped for pencil eyeliner in something like, um, two decades. Any recommendations?

Guilty pleasure music: No, not MCR, you sillies. I have NO GUILT about my geebling adoration for them. No, I'm talking about a blast from my hair metal past.

Proof that the Stroppy One loves me, in spite of not always understanding some of my musical tastes, plus a ramble about Back In The Day. )

Shallow Fashion Details! I feel under the weather today (a cold? Allergies? The Magic 8-Ball says "Reply Hazy. Ask Again Later"), so I dressed to make myself especially happy.

Black and pink! Sparkly skulls! )
