- I'm trying to exert some willpower and not 1) go brew a second pot of tea, or 2) go buy an acceptable-but-not-great americano from the cafe. I feel like I need more caffeine, but I know it will only be a temporary fix. Sadly, my not doing either thing is not so much because my willpower is strong, but the fact that I'm craving GOOD coffee.

- I am idly (well, not so idly) trying to decide if I want to do something completely insane right after SDCC. You see, the day after we come home from the giant con, I could take the train down to Portland, meet up with [livejournal.com profile] cass404, and attend a Motley Crue concert with her. Because we both have silly hair metal pasts, and really? Going to see ridiculously theatrical RAWK shows while dressed in full Cupcake Goth apparel is one of my favorite silly things to do.

(Why yes, I've been listening to the "Eyeliner and Aquanet" playlist on the iPod, why do you ask?)

But wow, I'd be tired from the con, and my schedule for July is already kind of nutty. But it's very tempting.

- As a semi-related tangent, I realized that my office decor is sadly lacking a couple of posters. I need a poster of Prince Charming -era Adam Ant, a poster of Shout At The Devil -era Nikki Sixx, and perhaps one of the promo posters for the album Lestat releases in the Queen of the Damned movie. (What? The promo material they made for that looked great. (clicky-link!) Pity the poster doesn't actually, y'know, EXIST.)

I am very confused that your cafeteria doesn't have very good coffee given both your employer and your location.

Remember, I don't like Starbucks. And they've got the coffee contract with my employer, so I'm out of luck.

Ah yes. I see how that is an issue. I "Meh" on their coffee as well I don't dislike it exactly, but I prefer other coffees.

There's plenty of bad coffee in Seattle. Seattle got complacent about being the coffee capital well over 10 years ago and now it can be a challenge to find baristas who actually know what they are doing. Too many bloody hipsters who are too cool to bother doing a good job.

Thankfully, I have found some excellent baristas and they are our lifeline.

RAWR! That is very tragic.

I have been known to take 15-20 minute detours, on foot, to get good coffee. My current tragedy is that in Boston, Dunkin Donuts and its crappy coffee is EVERYWHERE. Their iced coffee is particularly terrible. In the summer I cold brew coffee, fix it up in the morning (sugar and milk), and dump it into a thermos. So delicious.

Mine is called "My Secret Shame" (not really secret or shameful, just amusing), but I think that I like Eyeliner and Aquanet better!

This is part of why I ended up getting a french press for work.

I'm seriously contemplating getting a burr grinder so I can have grind selections at home. I have a hard time finding a happy medium between too course and too fine with the cheap grinder I have at home...

I find that with the newer machines they are less likely to mess up the coffee at Starbucks but I also mostly drink Lattes. I never have liked their drip coffee...

I like this idea.

a poster of Shout At The Devil -era Nikki Sixx

Oh, you mean something like this?

And while seeing Crue would be quite tempting for me as well, I think I prefer to remember them when they still looked good in the leather pants and eyeliner.

Awwww! Yes, that would be what I'm looking for. Oh dear.

You know, there is this awesome program online that lets you take any sized picture and blow it up to any size you like, and print it out on multiple sheets of paper so you can assemble it like a huge poster. The ones I've seen come out looking absolutely incredible, it may work for your Lestat poster wishes! :D

SDCC, if you're working the show (spending a lot of time at a booth, doing signings, etc) can be exhausting. It was waaay more brutal than I expected last year, although admittedly, being booth staff is likely more on-your-feet draining than being a feted writer.

Also: if you are at SDCC, I would *love* to meet you, and perhaps purchase you a drink/coffee/other token of appreciation for your wonderful website (and book! yee! book!!!)
