Good things:

- Modern pharmacology. I am a lifelong insomniac - I have memories from around age 4 or 5, being wide awake through the night and playing very quietly with my toys so I wouldn't disturb mom & dad. My life has been transformed via sleeping medication, and I am VERY THANKFUL for it.

- The never-ending earnestness of the upcoming generations of goths. Any time I start to feel jaded about The Scene (and that does happen, even to me), I go look at some of the tumblrs of the young 'uns out there, or I reread the email the younger babygoths send me. All of our spooky world is new to these kids, and their excitement is infectious.

- Triple-cream Brie. I am a simple creature, and triple-cream Brie makes me happy.

Ridiculous fashion pondering:

Firstly, tumblr is a wonderland of fantastic images of plus goth fashion. You knew that, right? Go take a look at this tumblr, it's one of my favorites.

Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of elastic cage harnesses. Like these two from CorvusCorone93 on Etsy.

I love the idea of them. I love how they look on the various plusgoth ladies I've seen photos of. I love the idea of wearing one with a severely tailored black high-collar Victorianesque blouse and a flowing skirt. My Body Image Demons love laughing at the very idea that I would wear such a thing.

::sighs::

Stupid Body Image Demons.

- I'm good at my job. No, you don't understand, I'm really good at my job, my co-workers know it, and they trust me to get things done. This is refreshing.

- Over on Tumblr, someone came up with the idea of Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, and Byron as a pop-punk band, and I am ENTRANCED. To the point of dreaming up the Fandom Wank -style post about everything that went down at Lake Geneva. It's such a delightfully cracky idea!

- Everyone is checking in on me while Pete is away, and I'm very touched by that.

Because talking about positive things, no matter how small, is good for our brains, right? RIGHT.

- Target has black fleecy skeleton pj onesies in grown-up sizes. The bones glow in the dark. OF COURSE I PICKED UP A PAIR, WHO DO YOU THINK I AM?

- The weather is getting cooler (whoo!), but is still sunny enough for me to try out a painting project I've been thinking of that needs to be done outside.

- While running errands today, it was just cool enough for me to wear a skirt with petticoats and a velvet waistcoat.
(Hey, let's see if LJ will let me post this! I haven't been able to comment on anyone's posts because of LJ being fussy.)

1. Working from home. The majority of my co-workers are either in Ottawa or Mill Valley, and the parent company is in Copenhagen. There aren't enough Seattle employees to make having an office necessary. No commute! Pete! Kitties! And when I have 7am phone meetings, I can lurch out of bed at 6:50 and slump in front of the computer in my nightgown!

2. It's blackberry season. Yes, the vines are invasive (understatement!), and the only way to get rid of them is fire or renting goats. But blackberries are one of my favorite fruits, and being able to wander into the back yard and pick a bowl of them any time I want is delightful.

3. My friends. You people have gotten me through some really horrible things, and you've celebrated all the good ones, no matter what scope. So thank you.

List three positive things for three days in a row? Sure, That sounds like a good thing to do. I tag ... [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, [livejournal.com profile] kambriel, and [livejournal.com profile] theda. (Who don't HAVE to do this, of course, only if they want to.)

1. It's September! The weather is starting to return to what I like: cool and overcast! Bring on the velvet!

2. Witchcraft. More and more I've been returning to my roots, as it were, and doing more of my version of witchery. It feels really good. It makes me feel more focused and more competent at everything.

3. Trashy, lurid, 70s era gothic romance & suspense paperbacks. I've been tracking down the more enticingly whackaloon "occult" ones, and they are the perfect junkfood reading for me. Does the cover art feature a lady in a flowing white nightgown, running away from a foreboding looking house? Is there a chance that the house is haunted, the master of the house is a devil worshipper, the child (there's always a child) is the reincarnation of a malevolent spirit, or are the villagers part of a demon-worshipping cult? Or all of those? FANTASTIC, I WANT TO READ IT.
