(FYI: this is an expansion on a post I made over on Tumblr.)

This is the current incarnation of my talisman necklace.

  • Long strand of amethyst beads (thrift store find, whoo!)

  • Silver key (another thrift store find, double whoo!)

  • Hag's Hand and Mandragora pendants from Raintower on Etsy

I like having this necklace as a long lariat, because it means I can wear it in different ways and still have a length of beads to fidget with. (I have accepted that I need some sort of long necklace to fidget with, but am trying to be better about not wearing noisy-clicky-rattling ones if I'm at movie night. Sorry [livejournal.com profile] theda!)

Here's the dithering part: I want to add at least one more talisman to this (and possibly more), but I can't decide which end I want to add it to.

The ankh is similar in size/weight to the silver key. Should I add it to the end with the key and Mandragora? If I add it to the end with the Hag's Hand, the pestle handle may get caught in the eye of the ankh or something. Should I look for a slightly smaller ankh? (I also have this style of ankh pendant.)

So, suggestions? Opinions? General commentary and saying hi?

I mean that literally. Big hair, and a choker with a pendant of the symbol for the Order of the Dragon, filled with soil from Castle Bran.

Not visible: the rosary with silver bladed ankh (a replica of the one from The Hunger), or the Gloria di Notte skirt made by [livejournal.com profile] kambriel.

I swear I wasn't reaching for a hatpin to go use on someone. SWEAR.

Also, to be filed under some things never change and GothProblems:

In other news, I am TIRED. Really, really tired. I did not manage going for a walk today, and I suspect I'm not going to drag myself onto the exercise bike tonight. When, exactly, does increased exercise give you increased energy? I'M WAITING.
Okay, fine, I admit it: FB is kinda useful. Because thanks to FB, I was able to get in touch with the local guy who (years ago) made silver versions of the ankh dagger pendant from The Hunger. I finally have a replacement sheath for mine.

Yes, I revel in my cheesetastic gothy clichés, thankyouVERYmuch.
Because I seem to have a knack for stumbling upon this sort of thing too late, this is a completed auction for the sort of ankh pendant I've been trying to find for ages.

See?! It's not the Alchemy Gothic "ankh of the dead" that you can find everywhere. Why can't I find this version? Whyyyyy?!

::stamps tiny feet::

I have an ankh very similar to this, made long ago by Jesse Skellington. But alas, the sheath for mine has long since vanished, and Jesse doesn't seem to be responding to attempts to contact him.

Yes, I know it's a ridiculous cliché. But I wants one. So! Have any of you lovely folks seen this sort of ankh w/ a sheath available anywhere, one that isn't the ubiquitous Alchemy Gothic version? (Which, yes, I do own, because my ankh collection is just that silly. But oh, if I could find one of the silver bladed ankhs w/ sheath! I would be a happy ElderGoth indeed.)
I am having something of a low day. Which, upon reflection, isn't terribly surprising, because even tho' I had a good phone call about something the other day and some fantastic socializing, those aren't enough to offset how this year has been so far.

Anyway, it's the sort of day where I feel the need to drape myself with talismans. In addition to the Necklace That Only Comes Off For Baths (silver ankh, flanked by silver skeleton keys from Rocklove*), when I go run errands today I am going to be wearing my usual giant rings (I feel naked if I leave the house without them), the Big Jingly Key Necklace, and probably the mourning brooch that my beloved [livejournal.com profile] pix_kristin gave me. One of these is for fidgeting with when I feel agitated, one is for reminding me of my safety net of loved ones.

What sort of jewelry talismans do you wear, if any? I love hearing about other people's amulets or iconic jewelry.

*Hello, I am a gothy girl of A Certain Age. I collect ankhs and skeleton keys, and have done for YEARS (even before I ever read The Sandman). I gleefully embrace my clichés, thankyouverymuch.
