(FYI: this is an expansion on a post I made over on Tumblr.)

This is the current incarnation of my talisman necklace.

  • Long strand of amethyst beads (thrift store find, whoo!)

  • Silver key (another thrift store find, double whoo!)

  • Hag's Hand and Mandragora pendants from Raintower on Etsy

I like having this necklace as a long lariat, because it means I can wear it in different ways and still have a length of beads to fidget with. (I have accepted that I need some sort of long necklace to fidget with, but am trying to be better about not wearing noisy-clicky-rattling ones if I'm at movie night. Sorry [livejournal.com profile] theda!)

Here's the dithering part: I want to add at least one more talisman to this (and possibly more), but I can't decide which end I want to add it to.

The ankh is similar in size/weight to the silver key. Should I add it to the end with the key and Mandragora? If I add it to the end with the Hag's Hand, the pestle handle may get caught in the eye of the ankh or something. Should I look for a slightly smaller ankh? (I also have this style of ankh pendant.)

So, suggestions? Opinions? General commentary and saying hi?

Lovely ankh -- the whole piece is gorgeous :)

The nice thing about attaching jewelry-bits with jump rings is that you can always reconfigure it, if it isn't working for you.

I'd put the ankh on the Hag's Hand side -- and if it winds up getting caught, maybe move the Hand and Mandragora about an inch up the chain on either side?

my instinct tells me that it should not go with the Hag's hand. That should remain on its own for now. There may be a pendant or small charm that will go with that later.

huh. and now I am thinking about turning my charm *bracelet* that I can never wear because it snags on lace and tights, into a charm *necklace*. I will be at tea, I would like to look at your lariat design. Now, I just need to *find* my charm bracelet. Its been missing for a month or two now. :| Send me a bit of luck in finding it?

Yeah, the Hag's Hand will be the only pendant on that side for a while. Whatever else is supposed to be with it hasn't appeared in my life yet. :)

I am planning on being at tea one way or another, so yes, you can examine the talisman necklace.

Your charm bracelet: are there boxes on a bookshelf in the living room? That's what's coming to me, dunno why.

hmmm that's the direction that I have sensed it is too. I will have to move a bit of furniture around to look harder. I think it *fell* from somewhere like that. I need to get another thousand words in before midnight (my own personal deadline, I am try to get at least 5 days ahead so that I can have 5 days when I don't have to stress getting enough words in too hard (Tea, Your birthday, the 2 days on either end of the Dog Sitting i am doing at Nerdvana, and Thanksgiving. More days ahead would mean family dinner nights, and movie nights too, But that largely just means I am trying to pass 3000 words every day). On the bright side, with not having to build a world with all of the rules of how things work, and just working inside of this world, there's a lot less thinking involved. But the missing bracelet is starting to bug me more and more.

Do you need to put it on an end? Since the entire necklace is comprised of links between the beads, with the addition of a few extra jump rings, you could dangle it from any other point as well. This could really open the door to adding as many more charms as you'd like to it along the way as well. The only caveat being, if you then pair it with other necklaces being worn at the same time, you might want to keep the charms low enough in the layout so they don't tangle up with shorter necklaces.

It's lovely!
