Caveat the First! This is entirely brainstorming and speculation, peoples. NOTHING has been decided, scheduled, or writ in stone.
Caveat the Second! But this is a serious question. So any feedback, advice, or information that you can give me will be VERY HELPFUL.
With those caveats out of the way: There is a chance that there will be a Gothic Charm School book event in NYC. But, I need to be able to pull a decent-sized crowd. As in, a minimum of 50 people attending. If I were to do a reading/signing in NYC, do you folks think I would be able to guarantee my publisher/publicity peeps an audience of at least 50? I, of course, would promote the event on the GCS site, Twitter, LJ, Facebook, and anywhere else I could, in addition to my publisher promoting it.
::stuffs a cookie in the mouth of The Voice Of Modesty to keep it quiet:: I think that a GCS event would be able to draw at least 50 people, but I don't know AND may be crazy. This is there I turn to you people for feedback and sanity checks.

2. Some ideas I have - plugging it on the local goth mailing lists/forums. Perhaps see if you can get an interview with the Village Voice, and they could also plug the event.

Once the date is nailed down, there are so many ways to get the word out. Trying to get people to commit when it's vague is really hard, though.

Eric has people there too
Now - is it a simple book signing? Or more? Some people just aren't so into book signings...
And I can try to announce it on The Empire of the Cat...
You also might want to network with Polyvore....
Oh, my neice is still at FIT - she probably knows fashion peeps and she is dating a movie maker - so that is another group she could shout out to. She is excited about your book :)

Maybe make sure it's not scheduled in the a.m. on a weekday, too, but that's probably obvious.

The big issue is there are not real goth shops in NYC any more other then Vampire Frecks and that store is so not you.
NYC is to pricey for odd stuff any more , the typical small place living rent is coming to be two thousand a month just for a space the size of my living room.
I am working on this.

What about having it at HousingWorks? They have a great space. Otherwise I may have other leads on spaces ... and my sister might, too.

Hrm.
I would think yes, 50 people easy. But my noodle is brainstorming of how to guarantee it, make it even bigger.... hrm.....
When would this be or do you know?

If you're still thinking about doing it in a park and you're reasonably entertaining about it, people will just wander by and join the fun, because that's what happens. Could you get maybe a dozen people to confirm that they'll be there for sure, put the word out via the usual channels as well as how ever it is the publicity munchkin does her thing, and then maybe serve tea? I don't think that's an unrealistic goal at all. I do think you should make sure to do something really eye-catching if you're doing it in a park rather than at a book store.
