Tzepesh is!

At home, eating. Well, scooping kibble onto the floor and then eating, but that's what he's always done with kibble.

He's going to be on a bunch of meds for a while, and is indeed going to be on steroids for life. We still don't know what caused the GI infection; cats with IBS can be triggered into something like that by, oh, eating a few spiders. (Tzepesh, let your brother take over the role of Mighty Hunter for now, okay?)

But he's home. Home, and affectionate, and much like his old self. We're very thankful for that.

Tzepesh earlier tonight. He looks SO much better than he did. He was very affectionate and happy to see us. I have never been so happy to see a cat nom kibble, or to be covered in cat hair.

If everything goes well, we may get to bring him home tomorrow evening.

He's staying at the vet a couple more days, with IV fluids, steroids, and antibiotics. His bloodwork came back with white cell numbers all over the place, and our vet wants to make sure Tzepesh is as strong as possible before doing any surgery.

The best possible outcome: he responds to the steroids right away, starts eating on his own, and doesn't need the feeding tube at all.

We don't know if this is lymphoma; it is a possibility. But right now, the most important thing is to get him stronger, and see how much the antibiotics and steroids help.

The Stroppy One is probably going to go visit him today (I've got a bunch of appointments), and then we will both go see him tomorrow.

My poor, poor babycat. Please be well.

Also, Dear 2011:

Knock it the FUCK off.

Now that I am back from my week of decompression at [livejournal.com profile] cass404's place, an update on Tzepesh:

He's still not well. He's lost weight, is lethargic, and is not very interested in food. He will eat, occasionally, and the Stroppy One has been trying out all sorts of different foods on him to see what will motivate him to eat.

The vet says that it is probably a GI infection. Tzepesh is now on twice-a-day antibiotics, with a chaser of two syringes of water squirted down his throat. (THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] ladymoira for helping out with that while I was still in PDX.)

Tzepesh, being possibly the most mellow cat in existence, while not happy with getting pills and water put down his throat, puts up with it, and hasn't gone into a massive sulk about it. But he's weak and tired, poor baby. I think the antibiotics are helping, but the Stroppy One and I would love to see a Sudden! Miraculous! Recovery! and have Tzepesh go back to his usual eat ALL THE FOOD ways.

So, whatever good thoughts or prayers you could spare for my big baby cat would be most appreciated.
Dearest Ruthven kitty,

I appreciate that you are a brave and mighty hunter. BELIEVE ME, I appreciate it. However, in the future when you are stalking your eight-legged prey, I'd rather you didn't come bounding up the stairs from the basement carrying a live one in your mouth so you can drop it on the floor and play with it.

Yes, I know the Stroppy One captured your prey under glass and disposed of it outside. That is part of the Stroppy One's duties, baby cat, because if he doesn't, then there is screaming and possible hyperventilating on my part, and none of us want that. If you must bring up your eight-legged prey to play with in the main part of the house, make sure they're dead first.

With love,

Your very arachnophobic gothy girl owner
.
