Now that I am back from my week of decompression at [livejournal.com profile] cass404's place, an update on Tzepesh:

He's still not well. He's lost weight, is lethargic, and is not very interested in food. He will eat, occasionally, and the Stroppy One has been trying out all sorts of different foods on him to see what will motivate him to eat.

The vet says that it is probably a GI infection. Tzepesh is now on twice-a-day antibiotics, with a chaser of two syringes of water squirted down his throat. (THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] ladymoira for helping out with that while I was still in PDX.)

Tzepesh, being possibly the most mellow cat in existence, while not happy with getting pills and water put down his throat, puts up with it, and hasn't gone into a massive sulk about it. But he's weak and tired, poor baby. I think the antibiotics are helping, but the Stroppy One and I would love to see a Sudden! Miraculous! Recovery! and have Tzepesh go back to his usual eat ALL THE FOOD ways.

So, whatever good thoughts or prayers you could spare for my big baby cat would be most appreciated.

Poor baby! We never figured out what Tully's GI issue was, but different food (that yes, we had to beg him to eat at first) + daily pills have cleared it up, & he's gained most of his weight back. So I hope for a similar recovery for Tzepesh too.

Poor baby. Will be sending healing energy.
If you can get the syringe in the cheek pocket and squirt it seems to go down a bit easier.

Oh man, I feel for you. In addition to the general geriatric ancient diabetic status of Mister Kitty, I've also done rounds of "unidentifiable gastro-upset" twice with him and once with Devi. Old man was saved by anti-bios-and-nausea and iv fluids, Devi with the same, with less hospitalization, but much more anger about iv fluids. It's no fun.

And they ran tons of tests (the first times, anyway) and nothing was obvious, it was just pretty much "let's throw everything at it and cross our fingers."

Cats that won't eat pretty much put me in full panic. Cats don't DO THAT.

Much hope this clears up fast.

Antibiotics can make their appetite drop for awhile, so until they start working he may not be up to eating normally. Also, if nothign seems to be helping, sometimes cats get anxious just like people. We've toyed with putting my cat on fluoxetine (Prozac) because we were having so many issues with her. A food change fixed it, finally.

Apparently Tzepesh didn't get my "no more sick pets" memo. I will re-send, with greater urgency.

In seriousness, good thoughts, good wishes, and hopes to see the sweet monster all better soon.

Also, has the vet checked for UTI problems? They can manifest in weird ways in cats and can be pretty serious, but fixable. That's actually what ended up being wrong with my kitty (though she also had more classic symptoms, like peeing on our couch...oi).

another wee suggestion, have they checked his blood sugar? I know when my fuzzit popped diabetic she was showing some of these signs. Although I do realize these symptoms can mean uti, diabetes, a hang nail, really whatever the cats wants it to mean, but still....and positive kibbie thoughts!!!

Reglan was the hated but successful anti-n drug. Had to go look it up.

Poor guy. Lots of vibes that he's on the mend soon.

To look on the bright side of a sad and worrying situation: if it is a GI infection, it's very treatable.

Feel better, kitty man.

You can try canned chicken or tuna.. Anything stinky should get his attention. You can also put cooked rice mixed into it or canned pumpkin if he is having upset tummy.

Oh, I hope he starts feeling better very soon. All the best to Tzepesh!

When I had a cat with pneumonia, the vet suggested a high-calorie nutrition paste. It comes in a tube and packs a lot of nutrition in a few tablespoons.

Have you tried tempting him with poached chicken with the broth?

*HUGS* to you and Pete and the kitty.

Back when I was in high-school, we had a kitty hit by a car. The vet put him back together, but warned he might not want to eat.

I ended up putting baby food (meat) on my finger and letting him lick it off. I have literally hand fed a cat. This worked, our beloved kitty recovered and went on to live many more happy years.

See if your baby will lick food from your fingers.

Sending happy kitty vibes, stat. And just general complaints to the universe to let up on you guys, for goodness' sake!

We'll hope and pray for his recovery, we don't need anymore pets lost this year.
