Because I'm on a kick of looking for gothy "statement" necklaces, with skulls. Like ooooh, this Tarina Tarantino White Widow necklace. (clicky-link!)

Or this Betsey Johnson "Vintage Vicky" necklace. (yes, clicky-link!)

Or even this sort of necklace, made from all sorts of bits of vintage jewelry. (yet another clicky-link!)

(Okay, that one isn't the right colors for me, but I like the idea of it.)

One the one hand, I could make a necklace like that pretty easily. (Hoo boy, could I. My stash of vintage jewelry bits is kind of astonishing.) But would I ever wear it? Would it just look like a mess with my style? These are the things I'm not sure of.

This post brought to you by looking for distractions of shiny things, obviously. ::grin::

I don't think that I have ever been 1st to post!! WOW!

Ok, 1 & 2 - totally chillin'

#3 - the colors are just a bit off - not white white enough, too peachy not enough pinky & not too sure about that barf yellow. The concept however is bitchin'

Suggest that you take your 'bits' that you are not going to miss & see what you can come up with for yourself.

And yes, today was most definitely a 'look @ the shiny' day.

Unfortunately I am unable to work from home... :( *insert pathetic sigh*

What perfect timing I needed shiny distractions during lunch! Making things is fun but sometimes a girl just needs to buy a shiny bauble. :0 )
Love them all. If you made a piece and it didn't turn out to be just what you wanted you could always sell it or gift it. :0 )

If you don't take #1, I'm highly tempted to XD

I like how it's simple, but it sets the Goth tone without using the obvious color of OMGBLACK.

The second one...it's OK. I don't find much of Betsey Johnson really my "thing".

The third one? It screams frilly steampunk to me for some reason.

Nooooo, we have the same taste in jewelry and now I want to buy thiiiiings. heh. I also really liked the last necklace you posted, even if no one else did. :D There's a black version w/a black cameo that has less bead-y stuff all over it that I'm currently trying not to buy.

I'm also trying not to buy this right now:

The only thing stopping me is the price. And maybe the gold. But omg, the seahorse has a hat.

I tend to find that those "bits of things" collage necklaces work best either with an extremely stark, simple outfit, or something flowy and pre-Raphaelite. I think something like that might look a bit odd with your more tailored, formal yet whimsical style.

But I could be completely wrong and there's nothing wrong with trying.

(BTW, I think the phrase "statement [whatever]" is ridiculous. ALL clothing makes a statement.)

I like parts of #2 very much. The other two, not so much at all.

You *have* several necklaces that are surely Gothy Statement Necklaces so I'm curious to know the appeal of these new ones you're looking at...? Not that we ever need an excuse to look at pretty, shiny things.

Are they pretty? Oh gosh yes.

Are they gothy? definitely.

Are they going to look like a mess when paired with anything I have ever seen you wearing in the last 10 years(in person or in photographs)? Yes. These would look great with the style you had 20 years ago - simple princess seems with a more ragged bohemian flare around the edges, as it would have brought more of that chaos from the edges into the center as well.

Are you *way too busty* to wear something like that last one without it over-balancing your top half? Alas, yes. I am sorry sugar, but you have way too much top shelf to wear something as chunky and chaotic as that without *really* toning down the extreme angles your curves have. You would not be terribly happy with the final look and your husband would make a face. I might make a face too, honestly.

Do you have all the ingredients to make something a little less haphazard but still in the over-the-top lots of shiny that *will* look good with your figure and style, and the skills to make it happen? Yes. I really think you can MAKE something that is actually in keeping with your style and flair but also *suits you* more than these.

I believe you could do something like #3 with one of your more severe outfits, particularly an all-black-on-top one...

Okay I need those Tarantino and Johnson ones.

$355 for that last one? Seriously? Sorry, don't see that it's worth it. I can appreciate her design work and I know I tend to under-price my stuff but, damn.

For perspective, the wedding set I made I would need to charge in that range for because it took me over 20 hours to do it - which is why that kind of beadwork is something I'm only likely to do for myself or for a special occasion. It's not that the material cost so much (though it was probably $25-30 worth), it's the time investment.

well it would look fab draped over a fantastic black frame or jewelry rack till you had just the right thing to wear with it. Maybe you could make a bracelet, almost cufflet like thing (I adore cuffs!) you can't really get to heavy with those.

mmmm or hat pins.... oh I do like the shiny :)

thanks for distractions as always dear!

While I love Betsey Johnson jewelry every time I buy a piece it falls to pieces. Same goes for my BFF who has sworn off BJ purses and jewelry for their less then stellar shelf life.

*___*
Okay, so I definitely needed to run out and buy the Tarantino piece, because it's just begging to be paired with the ivory version of this dress.

Your shiny finds are amaaazing.
