An idle thought.

It just dawned on me what the next movie Tim Burton directs should be. After Dark Shadows, I mean.

He should do his own version of Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Think about it! A mysterious carnival! An older dad (so Mr. Burton can air his seemingly ever-present issues about fathers)! An idyllic, idealized vision of boyhood in a small normal town! A MYSTERIOUS CARNIVAL! An entire soundtrack full of creepy carnival music for Danny Elfman to run amok with!

C'mon, you know I'm right.

(I was thinking about the fact that Burton is directing Alice In Wonderland, which is one of my favorite books, and is going to be doing a vampire movie, which is one of my favorite fiction genres/tropes/monsters. In my head it went something like "He's obviously picking movies for me, so now that he's tackled two of my favorite things, what should be next? Oh right, one of my other all-time favorite books!")

(Also, I am well-aware that his upcoming Alice In Wonderland movie isn't a faithful adaptation of the book. I'm still looking forward to it.)

I thought that when I saw the preview for "The Vampire's Assistant" for the first time, that it was "Something Wicked This Way Comes" :C dissapointment ensued...

There already was a movie of "Something Wicked This Way Comes", but while it has some good parts, it's not the BEST adaptation there could be.

Something Wicked this way comes is really high on my list of favourite movies.

I so had a crush on the fortune teller when I was a kid, lol.

When I watched it recently the travelling Tinker that sells the boy the weathervane inspired a huuuuggge fantasy epic idea.

I have such fond memories of the original, I would have to wrap my head around a re-make. Granted, I would have liked to have seen more dialogue from the book, but... I guess if it is Tim Burton... or Guillermo Del Toro....

You know, I've never read Something Wicked This Way Comes. From what I've heard it's right up my dark alley. I might have to check it out from the library sometime.

You and I both saw the rather radical changes he's done to Alice in Wonderland. Do you really want that same skewed approach taken to Something Wicked? Really?

You need the movie made by someone who will be faithful to the text, and that's just not Burton.

Yes and no. From what I've gathered, Alice is more or less a trilogy now. The second book, the direct sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," is "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Saw There." Some time later, of course, American McGee made their wonderful game, which takes place some years after Mr. Carroll's books.

Well yes. I did not mean that there weren't the original two books, nor that one couldn't portray people or creatures from those books in the wrong light, but rather than the movie is not an adaptation of one of those books. Nobody is going to be pissed because they skipped their favorite part of the story or because they changed some dialog. It's not the retelling of an old story but rather a newly created story.

I've heard it referred to as "Tim Burton's Repertory Theatre", which isn't far off the mark. But unlike some of the people I've talked to, I have no problem with that. =)

I hope not. I've lost all hope for him actually casting people appropriate to the role. He's got his circle and he picks them from it. It makes the film suffer.

That said, I will still come crawling back to him every time he makes a movie. I'm like an abused boyfriend that way.

I heard once upon a time that the new Alice movie would be a cinematic representation of American McGee's Alice, a wonderful game in its own right, and too reminiscent of Unreal Tournament for me to ignore for very long. But recently I began hearing rumors that it was a reimagining of the original Disney film, though done in almost a Todd McFarlane's Twisted Land of Oz style, which filled me with glee every time I passed the action figures while hunting new musical fun.

I wonder if there's any truth to either of these rumors?
