It just dawned on me what the next movie Tim Burton directs should be. After Dark Shadows, I mean.

He should do his own version of Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Think about it! A mysterious carnival! An older dad (so Mr. Burton can air his seemingly ever-present issues about fathers)! An idyllic, idealized vision of boyhood in a small normal town! A MYSTERIOUS CARNIVAL! An entire soundtrack full of creepy carnival music for Danny Elfman to run amok with!

C'mon, you know I'm right.

(I was thinking about the fact that Burton is directing Alice In Wonderland, which is one of my favorite books, and is going to be doing a vampire movie, which is one of my favorite fiction genres/tropes/monsters. In my head it went something like "He's obviously picking movies for me, so now that he's tackled two of my favorite things, what should be next? Oh right, one of my other all-time favorite books!")

(Also, I am well-aware that his upcoming Alice In Wonderland movie isn't a faithful adaptation of the book. I'm still looking forward to it.)

"something Wicked This Way Comes" would be an amazing movie! I'm a big Ray Bradbury fan anyway ^-^;

I thought that when I saw the preview for "The Vampire's Assistant" for the first time, that it was "Something Wicked This Way Comes" :C dissapointment ensued...

I believe he already has three movies set out for him. Alice in Wonderland, that vampire one, and a claymation of Frankenweenie.

But god, your idea is ever so great too. I think someone should suggest it to him.

I still need to read that bradbury book.

I'm reading 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' right now! I'm loving it :)

HOW HAVE YOU NEVER READ THAT BOOK? HOW HOW HOW?

Ahem. Sorry 'bout that. But it's a wonderful book, and you really need to read it.

There already was a movie of "Something Wicked This Way Comes", but while it has some good parts, it's not the BEST adaptation there could be.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I re-read it every year in October. Sometimes more often. :)

Something Wicked this way comes is really high on my list of favourite movies.

I so had a crush on the fortune teller when I was a kid, lol.

When I watched it recently the travelling Tinker that sells the boy the weathervane inspired a huuuuggge fantasy epic idea.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one convinced Tim Burton uses his movies to deal with some deep seated daddy issues.

I told you this when you told me you collected them and were looking for the pre-75ish copies.

I nearly choked to death when I realized Mr. Dark was played by the inept father/governor from PotC. (My husband adores Bradbury.)

From: [identity profile] kokirikitty.livejournal.com

I forgot about that; I remember hearing about it but I never watched it. I remember the movie version of "Fahrenheit 451" being dreadful -_-;

I have such fond memories of the original, I would have to wrap my head around a re-make. Granted, I would have liked to have seen more dialogue from the book, but... I guess if it is Tim Burton... or Guillermo Del Toro....

I think it's an excellent idea that should be suggested to him!

Yes. You are right. That would be awesome.

i LOVE that book... yes.. speilberg and elfman would be needed.. maybe some lucas help... i would die of squee-ing

You know, I've never read Something Wicked This Way Comes. From what I've heard it's right up my dark alley. I might have to check it out from the library sometime.

I'm so looking forward to seeing Dark Shadows, though. *sigh*

I can think of multiple Ray Bradbury tales that Tim Burton would do great justice to... (by the way, I have his "Batman Returns" on whilst I'm cutting out oodles of lace ~ totally coincidental I'm sure)! ;)

I've gotta say, I couldn't agree with you LESS.

You and I both saw the rather radical changes he's done to Alice in Wonderland. Do you really want that same skewed approach taken to Something Wicked? Really?

You need the movie made by someone who will be faithful to the text, and that's just not Burton.

From: [identity profile] macpain.livejournal.com

i wholeheartedly agree. i am currently ready 'something wicked this way comes' (thanks to your recommendation) and i so see a tim burton-esque movie before my eyes, it's not even funny anymore.

From: [identity profile] marc17.livejournal.com

I thought the Alice movie was a sequel so there are no texts to be faithful to.

"the inept father/governor from PotC"

Jonathan Pryce, also known for his work in Brazil, Hamlet, Miss Saigon, and Glengarry Glen Ross.

Sorry, just a major JP fan.

I hope not. I've lost all hope for him actually casting people appropriate to the role. He's got his circle and he picks them from it. It makes the film suffer.

That said, I will still come crawling back to him every time he makes a movie. I'm like an abused boyfriend that way.

...Dark Shadows? Oh my god. Are we seriously talking about Barnabas Colins, Dark Shadows?

From: [identity profile] lylassandra.livejournal.com

Oh yes, I know his name; it was the contrast that stunned me. I looked him up on imdb because I knew I recognized his voice from somewhere. It's one of those voices I could listen to for hours.

From: [identity profile] lylassandra.livejournal.com

I've heard it referred to as "Tim Burton's Repertory Theatre", which isn't far off the mark. But unlike some of the people I've talked to, I have no problem with that. =)

See, I left George Lucas after he hit me in the face one too many times.

Starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, of course.

I heard once upon a time that the new Alice movie would be a cinematic representation of American McGee's Alice, a wonderful game in its own right, and too reminiscent of Unreal Tournament for me to ignore for very long. But recently I began hearing rumors that it was a reimagining of the original Disney film, though done in almost a Todd McFarlane's Twisted Land of Oz style, which filled me with glee every time I passed the action figures while hunting new musical fun.

I wonder if there's any truth to either of these rumors?

From: [identity profile] tauren-wardrums.livejournal.com

This makes me sad, because I actually like the sophomoric violence of his creations while realizing that they are, in fact, just that: Sophomoric.

From: [identity profile] tauren-wardrums.livejournal.com

Yes and no. From what I've gathered, Alice is more or less a trilogy now. The second book, the direct sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," is "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Saw There." Some time later, of course, American McGee made their wonderful game, which takes place some years after Mr. Carroll's books.

From: [identity profile] marc17.livejournal.com

Well yes. I did not mean that there weren't the original two books, nor that one couldn't portray people or creatures from those books in the wrong light, but rather than the movie is not an adaptation of one of those books. Nobody is going to be pissed because they skipped their favorite part of the story or because they changed some dialog. It's not the retelling of an old story but rather a newly created story.

Yes well, I've moved on to higher humour and more creative violence.

From: [identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com

I think this would be brilliant. I love that book. This would be pretty amazing. Elfman carnival music? Yes please.
BTW I'm totally adding you. Hope that's not creepy. <3
