Firstly, the new post at Gothic Charm School!

Secondly, this is me reminding people of the existence of the Rocklove Jewelry Gothic Charm School Batty Heart necklace and the Starborn Alchemy Gothic Charm School body butter!

Thirdly, hey, the new issue of Steampunk Tales is available, with part two of a work of fiction by me!

A question:

In a post last night about the ongoing cleaning/organizing of the Storage Heap Room O' Doom, I mentioned that I had a LOT of fabric that I wasn't going to ever use. [livejournal.com profile] jaborwhalky, because she is brilliant, suggested the following:

Make grab bags of the fabric by color and put them up for sale via your LJ at like prices of 20$ for a small bag of fabric and stuff 30$ for a bigger bag of fabric and stuff 50$ for a huge bag of fabric and stuff or the good good stuff.

Have that be with free shipping and see if you can't get more shoe money and make people you know happy with a random grab bag of Lady of the Manners fabric and crafts stuff.

Now, I think this is a really good idea. And oh, it would help me raise money to buy the assorted furniture and shelves I will need to properly organize that room. But! Do you folks reading this think it's a good idea? Would any of you be interested in it? (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] angldst, I know you already said you'd be all for it.)

I have managed to clear about half of the room now. This is very exciting!

Ha! Hey, I know! I'll trade you assorted bags of fabric for help with shelves! ;-)

From: [identity profile] torreybird.livejournal.com

I'll help with shelves anyway... but I can't bring home more stuff until the current towers of STUFF are put away. :-|

I actually had the vague thought, when reading that post, that I would've liked to buy some of the fabric from you.

So one vote for "yes, would buy a grab bag!"

From: [identity profile] chiisai-neko.livejournal.com

I would certainly love a grab bag of fabric. I'm certain I could scrounge together $20 to contribute to a patchwork quilt I'm attempting to make for my bed. No doubt you would have some wonderful fabrics.

Another vote for YES.

I am so glad my husband doesn't read LJ, because I would buy a bag of fabric in a New York minute!!! And if he knew I would do this, he would give me the Hairy Eyeball. And if he gave me the Hairy Eyeball, I might almost feel guilty in purchasing a grab-bag of fabric.

Not that it would stop me from making the purchase.

It's just that his not reading about this saves him the effort of finding another Hairy Eyeball to give me. I seem to earn a goodly few of them every week.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I understand. My husband, the Stroppy One, frequently gives me The Look. I'm sure it's very similar to the Hairy Eyeball from your spouse.

From: [identity profile] snobahr.livejournal.com

Chrono's Hairy Eyeball is like the Eye of Sauron (with a Rogaine OD).

And why yes, I do have fabric pieces in aaaaaalll those colors. A bunch of dark green velvet, actually. Where it came from, I have no idea.

From: [identity profile] lilmartini.livejournal.com

Ooooooooooh. Damn you!

I'm in Wallingford now so I'm closer. :D

From: [identity profile] evaria.livejournal.com

I would totally buy a grab bag. Heck, I'd even shell out for a huge one:D

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Why did I only JUST notice that your LJ "comment by" is Oblio? I'm assuming Oblio from The Point, right? I was raised on that soundtrack. I can still sing most of it from memory.

From: [identity profile] evaria.livejournal.com

Heh, why yes, yes it is. Most of my LJ titles are from The point. My friends page shows up as Me and My Arrow. I to was raised on that movie/soundtrack and I love it to pieces.

I'm a fabric hoarder and would most definitely end up buying a grab bag of fabric. : )

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Heh. I am trying to become less of a fabric hoarder. If it is not in my color scheme (black, white, b&w stripe, pink, or burgundy), it must GO AWAY.

From: [identity profile] bloomsinthenite.livejournal.com

Understandably so. I'm actually working on becoming a costume designer so I love finding random and interesting fabrics to play with. : )

Also, happened to be browsing the interwebs and chanced upon this

It screamed cupcake goth at me, and so I share it with you. : )

Yes, yes yes!

I have this very strange and sudden obession with collecting fabric. To make things with.Like throw pillows. I'm invsioning hundreds of throw pillows. Of wonderful colors. To decorate my overly comfortable bed. When you mentioned fabric in the last post i was like Goodwill is a good cause, but I'm shocked she won't sell it.

Did I mention yes?

From: [identity profile] blackrosemortal.livejournal.com

Fabric would be awesome, but I've no sewing skills whatsoever...then again, I have a friend who's somewhat of a clothing designer..I could have her do my fabric usage bidding. Oh yes to the point, I loved the gothic charm school post & added the linky for it to my facebook page.

From: [identity profile] shinimegami7.livejournal.com

i'd personally would want to see said fabric. but otherwise it is a great idea XD

o.o i'ma fabricwhore D:

From: [identity profile] bella-cheval.livejournal.com

OOo, nice linkies. I see presents aplenty. Thanks!

From: [identity profile] jaborwhalky.livejournal.com

This seems to be what I am good for.
Random bits of
"Hay you could do this"

LOL

From: [identity profile] brumbjorn.livejournal.com

I would be interested in this -- I was thinking of making a patchwork quilt with some velvet bits in it and such! I'd even help you sort stuff out :)

May I make a suggestion?

Get the two largest sizes of flat rate priority mail boxes from the post office. Pack the fabric into those THEN list them. That way you already know what shipping would be and you would have the boxes on hand.

We need to go see "Suffer for Beauty" before it closes!

From: [identity profile] snobahr.livejournal.com

With the added bonus that the shipping boxes are FREEEEEEEEEEEeee e e . . . *

From: [identity profile] autumn-marie.livejournal.com

I do this on ebay all the time and it always goes over well, I average about $20-$30 per bag just like jaborwhalky suggested. I usually have too many patterned pieces and weird odds and ends to sort by color, so I'll sort by lace/fishnet, velvet, vintage, patterned, pvc/pleather/leather/fur, and misc. I promise the buyer no less than X-number of yards of fabric with one photo of all the pieces folded and next to each other. It doesn't take much work, I can usually fit it all in a flat rate box, and I get money for fun stuff!

So I vote "yes", tested and proven method of getting rid of unloved fabric for a decent price (especially if, like me, you get fabric from garage sales, estate sales, and charity shops).

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Ah-ha! This is exactly the sort of information I needed. Do you trim the pieces so they're all roughly square/rectangular-ish? Or do you go ahead and include pieces that have jagged/cut edges?

From: [identity profile] silverhawthorn.livejournal.com

If you don't mind me butting in, here at the quilt shop we sell our remnants "as is". It saves time, and some ladies like the uneven ends for craft projects, appliqué, etc.

From: [identity profile] autumn-marie.livejournal.com

I used to trim all but the vintage pieces (since vintage fabric collectors are very picky about the condition and amount of fabric) but most of the buyers didn't seem to care if it was trimmed or not. The few that did care always wanted the extra bits for trim, stuffings, what have you. So I just never bothered with it since everyone either didn't care or wanted it left as is. I feel a bit less wasteful leaving it untrimmed too, even though they may very well trim it and throw it out, but at least I left the option there for them. Seemed to make them happy.

A little P.S. to my previous comment, if you do have any vintage fabric I would suggest selling it separately rather than by color or pattern. I would average $20-$30 per bag but the vintage fabric bags would jump up to $50 or more most times, they also go over very well on Etsy.

I'd be interested in fabric, if you don't mind shipping to UK?

From: [identity profile] snoissesbo.livejournal.com

I think it's a wonderful idea! I could very well afford a smaller bag and I would (hopefully) have enough room for it until I can come up with an interesting sewing project :D

From: [identity profile] silverhawthorn.livejournal.com

The only fabric I'm needing right now is black canvasy stuff for a messenger bag I'm thinking of making, but grab-bags are always a good idea!

From: [identity profile] nightmrstallion.livejournal.com

I think it's a great idea. If only I already didn't have massive quantities of fabric already looking for uses...

From: [identity profile] 10pm.livejournal.com

i'm curious as to what kind of fabric you have!

From: [identity profile] blutsauger.livejournal.com

Oh my, I really don't know why I didn't happen to come across your LJ before it was featured in spotlights! We share so many interests (Gothic culture and fashion, Steampunk, home-sewing, CATS <3...), I really don't get it...

Anyway, I'd love to buy a grab-bag but I suppose you wouldn't ship to Germany (and it's pretty pricey, so...). I just wanted to say that if I was on your continent, I'd totally go for it! (^-^)
