Thing the First: Of Reader Mail Concerning Mourning, the Military, and Teachers has been posted to Gothic Charm School.

(Thank you to my beta readers and [livejournal.com profile] staxxy, Queen of Proofreaders!)

Thing the Second: I'm going to be on Internet radio! The Eclectic Word airs Friday, Sept. 7th (that would be THIS Friday), at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST. Myself and the brilliant and fascinating Allyson Beatrice will be interviewed by the charming and witty Victor Infante. It's going to be all sorts of fun, so you really should come listen to us.

As a non-Goth, thoroughly my own person teacher in an ever-more conservative school -- what a wonderful response to the new teacher you made! Of course, I think it's wonderful because it's what I end up telling all the new teachers eventually: find out who YOU are, and BE THAT. Some students will like you, and some won't, and it's not a popularity contest. But if you're not yourself in this intensely intimate relationship (tho not at all sexual- ew), you'll go nutso.

I'd add one thing: if one is a person in charge of modeling adult behavior -- the adults you are forming them to become -- one cannot break the rules one would like them to learn to follow. I make certain I dress modestly and appropriate to the task at hand, wherever else the whimsy might take me.

Thanks for another terrific lesson!
