Thanks to some discussions with [livejournal.com profile] solstice_lilac and [livejournal.com profile] kambriel about dark mori and strega fashion, I finally broke down and created a pinterest board. (Yes, I'm on pinterest) https://www.pinterest.com/gothiccharmscho/witchy-fashion/

There's a LOT I like about the drapey, layered, hello-I-am-a-fairytale-witch look. (Go on, look surprised). Now I just need to stop listening to the Body Image Demons about how I'll look like a round pile of black laundry ...

(Wide elastic belts will probably help with that issue. That, and going with tunic tops where the fullness is through the hips, instead of giant baggy shirts and sweaters.)

(Who am I kidding? I am going to pile these layers under a fitted waistcoat. Which is pretty much what I already do.)

But anyway: feel free to go browse!

(Yes, one of my other pinterest boards is for gothic romance cover art. https://www.pinterest.com/gothiccharmscho/gothic-romances-to-track-down/)

I love love LOVE this look, but can never find pieces in my size. *weeps*

(I'd also need to be strategic with shape -- I can wear tattered skirts and long tops, but there needs to be a waistline in there somewhere, or else everything hangs straight down from my boobs.)

I at least have some of the jewelry for it -- although I wish that my Bloodmilk stuff hadn't been among the pieces stolen when I moved (a whole bunch of my favorite jewelry got lifted, because I was in the hospital during part of the move, and my mother turned in the keys *despite me specifically telling her not to*, and she hadn't checked all the drawers in the bathroom -- and that's where I kept my favorite jewelry and makeup. *SNARL*)

But, yeah, if you find a reasonable plus-sized source for the dark mori/strega look, please do share!! :)

Lotus Traders and Holy Clothing both have a pretty good selection of tops/skirts/dresses that could be adapted to a dark mori look, and their size range is not depressing. There are some unfortunate product names (the word g*psy is everywhere on those sites), but there are some really great things.

I keep seeing dark mori/strega Polyvore sets using this top from Chicstar (http://www.chicstar.com/storefront/listproducts.aspx?id=11172), to the point that I'm actually idly considering buying it in the next few months.

I get all my floofy long skirts from Holy Clothing :D

I'm a bit disappointed in Lotus Traders -- they used to have more of a selection. I love the two older dresses of theirs that I own, but I visited the site recently and didn't see anything that grabbed me.

That top IS really cute!

I'm trying to train myself away from flowy bell sleeves, because they're asking for trouble in a wheelchair -- but I love full sleeves with cuffs :)

A lot of those outfits could be fabulous for summer. And in any season I'm sure you'd look dynamite as a round pile of black laundry.

Holy crap I've been looking for a tutorial on those gathered up scarves and there it is on one of your boards! COOL

Thin layers of fabric seem to make me less self conscious about my curves. A layer of silk and then the fine knit loose top like this one:

A long vest or thin long cardigan over it and I am good.

If you go back to the original strega manifesto by shortcuttothestars on Tumblr, strega was intended to get away from the more rule-bound aspects of (dark) mori -- so belt away!

1) you would never look like a bit round heap of black laundry. The sheer amount of clothing you would have to pile onto yourself to achieve such a thing would impede your movement enough that you would stop well before it got to that point.

2) You have been heading in and out of this style for a long time now. It is certainly a style that works well for you and that I think you ought to embrace and enjoy.

I admire the look so much, but my natural tendency to entropy means I have to start the day looking like a banker or I look like a homeless person by mid-day. (I swear to God I brushed my hair this morning, but you'd never know.) So no tattered clothes for me. :(

Also, long skirts and rolling office chairs are a disaster waiting to happen, as I learned in the 90s with all my pretty silk broomstick skirts. If I was lucky the elastic waist would just end up around my thighs when I stood up. If unlucky I'd be spending ten minutes a day unwrapping the skirt from the wheel casing. :)

So I had a gander at your book board and didn't realize for a moment that the "Sinister Lady of the Manners" book wasn't real...

Also, you would look great in more/ strega! You already do a lot of layering, I don't se why this type wouldn't be just as lovely on you. Or as terrifying, whatever you're going for on a given day.

I've been wearing lots of strega-like stuff lately! I like it a lot, it's great for winter.

Thanks for posting your Pinterest collection--this is both enlightening and familiar. Enlightening in that I didn't know that this style was a "style," and familiar in that it looks just like what I have been wearing for at least the last fifteen years, when I decided I was too much of a hippie goth for either of the other styles I loved--Victorian and deathrock--and too tall to legitimately wear anything labeled "pixie." But I just called it "hippie goth"! Now I see it's a whole thing.

It kinda has everything that calls to me, too. That Pinterest is like my Kryptonite. Long skirts, draped and layered fabrics and textures, asymmetrical and pointy hems, "distressed" texture, no corsets, no vinyl, and lunar jewelry. Ughughughugh. It makes me want to spend money. It's really good to feel inspired, though!
