Everyone, please go take a look at the LJ comm
savesnowssanity.
snowcoma is a delightful person who is in a horrible situation. There are all sorts of interesting things that are being auctioned off to help raise money for her medical bills; I'm offering a personalized, signed copy of the Gothic Charm School book: http://community.livejournal.com/savesnowssanity/6091.html
Thank you for any taking a look at the auctions, and for any help you can give.

The quote that best sums up my evening: "Head for the giant flamethrower, then turn right at the chainsaw-wielding clowns." We went to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights with
pix_kristin and
noisedesign! Many, many actors, dressed in scary costumes. With prop chainsaws.
"But Jilli!" I can hear some of you thinking, "You are notoriously easily startled and scared, even though you love the horror genre! How on earth did you deal with the packs of roaming fiends determined to terrify the guests at the park?" Good question! By deciding that hey, aren't they cute! Look at them, being all Grr! and Graaaaargh! Let's blow kisses at them! Most of the monsters seemed amused by this, and one said "You're like, a dark Mary Poppins!"
We went through all of the mazes, with the exception of the Rob Zombie House of 1000 Corpses one; by then, my enthusiasm for fog machines, strobe lights, and having people in masks jump out at me had waned a bit. But we went through the mazes for Saw, Friday the 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, and Vampyre: Castle of the Undead. We also went on the Terror Tram (which was Chucky themed, oh dear) and the King Kong 3D tram. (Which was interesting, but wow, that was kind of a long tram ride for a very short attraction.)
My favorite was easily the Vampyre maze, but well, yeah. Vampires. Also, that's the attraction that is there year-round, so the set pieces are much more elaborate and eye catching. It's usually themed for the classic Universal Monsters, not just Dracula, so it involved The Mummy, Frankenstein, and so on. The big laboratory set for Frankenstein is one I would have loved to have spent more time looking at; alas, not possible with strobe lights and screaming teens around me.
It was a lot of fun! I'd never been through any sort of haunted attraction or maze before, but I've always been fascinated by them. I didn't really get scared by any of them; startled one or two times by an actor I hadn't spotted lunging out at me, yes. But scared, no.
There is no jaunt to the Kingdom of the Mouse on this trip; the Stroppy One is Disney-ed out right now, and I sympathize. (I mean, I am always up for a trip to Disneyland, but I understand that it is not everyone's favorite place to go.) I will miss visiting my spiritual home of the Haunted Mansion, but I'm okay with it. There will always be other trips home; maybe someday they'll give me my rental agreement when I ask for it.

Lots of new stuff is opening in 2011-2012, including the Cars Land, so we'll have to go there in 2012. He should have recovered by then. :)
Besides I have a ton of cons I need to go to in 2011, the family budget will be tight enough already.

Which if it does, cool!
Also, having grown up here and actually living just down the street (I could see fireworks from my house!) the newness and awe of the place, does finally calm down. It does not however, stop the I feel like a kid feeling you get when you set foot inside the gates. Not one lil bit.
Glad you enjoyed the trip and safe travels back home.
