So I DON'T have an interview today. My recruiter was just informed that the position is actually part-time, which means it's not worth it for me. If I got the position, it would mean I would be shooting myself in the foot for any longer-term contract position that came along, not to mention that the pay rate + part-time = not financially worth it.

I am disappointed, yes. This is part of why I hate job-hunting. Anyone have any leads on job openings for a technical editor?

So I am in need of a bit of cheering. What's going on with all of you? Good things? Tell me about them? Or send pretty boys in eyeliner. Or both.

I think today I will sooth myself with some writing, some skirt sewing, and bombastic rock music played at a loud volume.

Aw crap, I'm sorry. At least you found out before going in.
I like to think that any jobby interest is a decent sign of potentially more to come; I hope something better pans out soon.

Have you seen this yet?

I have followed your journal for a little while now but have not been brave to comment often.

I don't know if this will cheer you up but I draw toon pics and after reading your journal and seeing the pics you post etc i want to try and draw an 'evil little girl' toon version of you.

If you are interested, please let moi know.

And if you wish to know what my 'style' is like, I can post you a link to my DA gallery.

Will ugly boys who, with no hint of irony, dress like D&D characters do? Ah, Viking metal. Don't you ever change. (And, if insanely curious, they're Týr, and they're playing this Saturday at Studio 7. I expect to see a lot of homemade armor at the show, and I will be resplendent in sparkly reindeer antlers.)

And sorry about the job prospect. It's good that you found out before going in, and that the recruiter is also looking out for your best interests.

If I didn't already have plans for Saturday night, I would be tempted to go see epic Viking metal, just for the amusement value.

Bleah - sorry to hear it! Ambrose has been trying to find a technical writer position for over a year now. I suspect age discrimination is coming into play - but it's pretty impossible to proof.

Here: Have a video of a pretty androgynous skater in eyeliner:

I will be helping out in the local art classes at the school near me and (no relation) trying to make the perfect bat cookie :)

I hope you get a groovy job soon, like editing vampire books or taking over Disney land

  1. My husband is now as enthusiastic about the prospect of us keeping bees after we move as I am. Woo hoo!
Odd fact: the little yellow/orange dots that show up on car windows/patio furniture/etc. is bee poop. It often is at its worst after a long cold spell, once the weather gets to 50+F and isn't raining, when bees zoom off to relieve themselves. The only bee that does not leave the hive to deal with biological functions (aside from mating) is the queen.
  2. I made garlic cheese bread using a stick of unsalted butter, a generous amount of powdered garlic, and 2 tubes of buttermilk biscuit dough. It was interesting making it, because I had no clue what I was doing. The end result, however, is tres nom.

I am an instructional designer and have been job hunting all month. I just signed a new contract, but am still getting pinged from recruiters. I will happily pass on leads, if you wish. I also have a spreadsheet from a former co-worker containing quite a number of recruiters for tech writers/editor/ID type folks. If this would be of help, please let me know and I will share.

In the vein of happy distractions from the Interwebz, I recommend these:
  • Daily Squee (http://dailysquee.com/)
  • FU Penguin (http://www.fupenguin.com/)

    Enjoy!

    Oh! And...

... I went to a new Dallas chocolatier called Dude, Sweet (http://www.dudesweetchocolate.com/) (best. shoppe. name. EVAR!) and had yerba mate tea-infused truffles. Om nom NOM!

    From: [identity profile] twilight2000.livejournal.com

I was inspired by your discussion of tea-staining the other day and found some specifics for doing so in my washing machine. I had a dress that I had patched, but which had gotten burned by a dreadful iron (that I'm replacing this afternoon) - which meant the dress that was white with a lovely dark pattern will now be tea colored with a lovely dark pattern.

I can't wait to see the dress when it's done! Thanks :>

I hope that you get a wonderful job, or that your book sells so much you don't need one

I have 2 arty projects I'm making progress on. My bedroom floor is covered in frames of gold wire for a pair of huge wings. And I am getting ready to put the 3rd layer of color onto the first tshirt for my brother and his company. Also, mom and I just made pizza (although not from scratch, we used a premade crust).

I'm sure that you will hear about another interview soon. :) I'm waiting for a job that matches me to be updated with the temp agency I'm registered with. Apparently they had just filled a couple of those positions when I went in to interview and update my testing last week. In the meantime I'm sure you can find some artistic, fashionable distractions.

You could think of amusing things to dress me in for Vampire Ball in PDX. We could make a giant portable cage for me to follow you around in...

    From: [identity profile] cherry-faery.livejournal.com

If you are so inclined to get your distraction craft on, here's a fun one that is actually pretty easy and best of all, it's also cheap. All you need is bobbypins, some clear nylon thread (fishline would work just fine too) and beads.

I got this idea from reading up on Lolita stuff. Get a handful of beads you like the color and look of. (Lighter pearly ones would work best against darker hair because they will pop more. Darker colors could work but depending on the color, they could end up fading into the background.) Basically what you do is tie the beads onto the thread and fix them in place. You can space them as near or far apart as you like but a couple of inches worth of space between the beads is a good distance to make them not look bunched up. Make sure to measure the thread so it's only as long as your hair or shorter. (It ruins the illusion if you have them longer) And with that, secure your string onto the bobbypins and pin them into your hair. The effect looks like you've got pearls or jewels beaded into your hair and if you space out the pins far enough from each other, it flows naturally too.

The best part about this project is that it's totally about instant gratification and you'll be that much more amazingly fabulous at your next tea party!

Hopefully this project inspires some cheer for you. Feel better soon!

    Very sorry about the miscommunication.

Cheery happy things... My nerf sword, from its place of honor on my dorm room wall, says "Snicker-snack," but I don't know if that will help...

I am sorry that I can offer no better cheeriness than this, nor send prettier boys in eyeliner than the ones offered by those commenting above me.

I am contemplating buying some more skinny jeans and taking pictures. Cause that makes me feel sexy. Or at least attractive. So yay for that.
